unpopular opinion: human populated forums will be a relic of the past

the future of forum tech will be human free other than the one user.

what I mean by that is, you will have a forum experience,
but except for you all the users will be bots.

    the benefits include:

    no censorship at all

you will get the experience of being popular in a whole new level

you evolve the forum by banning bots with bad opinions

once you understand influence is an illusion of the matrix, it will make sense.

you will have no human users and you will be happy

So a forum with a single human member. Just use a AI chat client.

well this needs to go beyond one AI client.

you need an array of AI skills to get the spectrum of a forum experience.
you need some drama, some events, vectors and agenda.

otherwise it's not a forum it's an AI client.

Banter with lifeless code and pretend we're influential. Woo-hoo!

Omg, the joy of banning bots with "bad opinions" that you programmed into them—a dream come true!

Yeah! Who needs real human interaction, diverse perspectives, and genuine connections. People will embrace the utopia of solitary bot banter!

Re: unpopular opinion: human populated forums will be a relic of the past

Twenty Six years ago in the land of Windows 98 I had a computer issue and the in-house IT guys wouldn't be coming over for days.....

That's when I found the world of online forums... and was using a killer 56k baud modem to do that with...

Anyway - in order to talk about the future we should try and figure out the past. Why have Tech Forums been dying off....
Wi-fi went down for five minutes, so I had to talk to my family....They seem like nice people.

The current generation expects instant answers to their questions. They cannot wait for someone on a forum to reply, and then have to check for replies. If they do not get an answer in 5 minutes, they move on to something else.

True, I was asking a recipe for cupcakes I waited 5 minutes, ended up eating raw flour and sugar.

well, probably because the star poster was banned.
it also happened to aidreams.co.uk and other such forums.

people don't appreciate top tier forum posters.

did he get >400k views per single thread?
did he accumulate millions of views?

who was the only poster here that managed to score the VU meter code back in the day when no one else could?

which user pioneered the Xamarin forum?
which user knows over 7 programming languages?

can't argue with numbers and credentials.

when you lost the star poster visual studio went to underuse.

the problem boils down to gatekeeping.

I see jmc help people multiple times on a daily basis. All I see from you is either, look at me or poor me. Neither one serves to help people or improve this site.

And why haven't you provided a link to it? Embarrassed?

Jmcilhinney posted 110,560 times. There's a good chance he's topped millions of views due to Google searches.

And your credentials are all over the net. I would provide links, but that would violate VBForums' terms of service due to those forum's content where you've posted.

Nah... Visual Studio and VBForums saw an uptick in use when viewers discovered you got banned. You was better than their local funny pages!

To be fair, I have had a couple of warnings here and I did get banned from SO. I never actually complained about those things though. When I was warned, I cooled my jets a bit. When I was banned, I rode it out and have tempered my responses since. Haven't had a warning or a ban since. I guess that's how it works: break the rules and bad things happen but stop breaking them and you can continue to go about your business.

I was warned for language once and I know I've pushed the envelope a few times. I tend to get personal versus the posters here that take the high road.

Thanks for posting. I felt bad about singling you out, I just want everyone else to know I see all there hard work helping people on this site. I pointed to you because of your strength of knowledge and being the most prolific.

Re: unpopular opinion: human populated forums will be a relic of the past

JMC was infamous on been rude to people when they did not try to code something or search something obvious , he was called a few times about it and he mellowed down a lot over the years so that is a plus, that and been an admin that must show a decent behavior. Personally never really had an issue with the behavior, I'm 10 times worse but only on chit chat....
Of course nothing to do with the coding knowledge, that is up there, always been but there are more aspects that make someone a star poster. If we are talking clearly on coding, yes, he is a star poster.

P.S. I still remember a complete meltdown with a girl from South Africa, can't recall the name. I think after that he changed somewhat his behavior. Caution, not that he was right or wrong, I can't recall the posts.
