my first vb6 app in linux,by gambas,Does anyone know the author?
The first Linux program, addition calculation and pop-up dialog box
Gambas, a Linux version of an IDE development environment similar to VB6
At first I wanted to use the Clng function of VB6 to convert it to an integer, but there is no such function.
Smart prompts only appear after entering 3 letters. This is not done well.
There is no msgbox function, you need to use messagebox.warning
It would be nice if you could add function aliases
msgbox=messagebox.warning
clng=clong

Re: my first vb6 app in linux,by gambas,Does anyone know the author?
I tried Gambas a long time ago and I was able to make the IDE crash and fall into a heap regularly.
In addition, I didn't like the way the Linux/Wine snobs were disparaging (in their documentation) towards VB6 as a compatible language, in the same way that we are used to, from proponents of later MS languages...
Developer snobbery is a strange thing but for the Gambas developers they should have known better, after all they were building, in effect, a VB6 for Linux. You would have thought they would want to encourage migration but their snobbery seemed intent to stifle that. I always think that if you have a small market it is best not to put off the largest potential part of that market.
As I use VB6 as largely being API glue then the lure of having to change everything, logic and API calls, was insufficient to cause me to dig deeper.

If you are a VB6 enthusiast, even if you use it to write small tools, you will be looked down upon. If your superiors ask you to complete an automation tool or small management software. You will also be laughed at by your colleagues if you use this language, because they don’t know the code you write. They use PYTHON, the world’s number one, to write scripts. The current ranking of VB6 is estimated to be 30th, and it will be 100th in a few years.
Now you can use PYTHON, JAVA, LUA, and NODE.js to develop some desktop window applications. In the future, it will be the world of web IDEs. You can write code online by opening the network disk, drag and drop controls, automatic layout, and change the interface style at will. Let your program never be outdated, instead of WINFORM, the same as win32 api, which has not improved much in 30 years.

I think the most perfect VB6 end is to be able to develop directly on the web webide.
As long as we open any web page and turn on the mobile phone, we can program and run the code anytime and anywhere.
Gambas is a visual quick development tool for Linux similar to win's VB. In its earlier version, it was not perfected first. Until now, version 1.03 has surprised me. Also for the developers of gambas, as for the lofty admiration.. If Borland could be a little more specific. Don't always fall by the wayside, then the future of Kylix may be very bright.. As Linux has evolved,Why not have a preconceived idea? After Delphi 7.0, Borland almost began to lose his original status. The following is the full IDE image of gambas version 1.03 that I cut under Linux. The operation and syntax are almost the same as VB under win. The function on IDE is also very strong. The code editor is my favorite. Refreshing, friendly.. Support common functions on Delphi and VB, such as highlighting, automatic code prompt, etc. And after we enter the code manually, the reserved keywords will automatically be capitalized and highlighted. Powerful component extensions. Because of the developers of gambas themselves, the work is very busy.. On his personal homepage, he also said, "The development progress of gambas may be slow, but he will not give up and will continue to work hard to improve it."

All the software that is related to bb6, or better than it, or is working hard to improve it, has been frozen out by the forum.
I strongly protest and casually shift my topic to a section that no one reads at all.
You don't know how big my dream is.
I just thought of a good way to develop with this tool. Write real VBS, VB6 code in it, run it with wine.. Compile or parse and run in the background.
Make full use of the beautiful interface of the front desk, you can also use other technologies such as dot net and GTK.
Use Vb6 in the background and continue to improve more functions.
It is very, very, very rare for this article about other BESCOs that we also need the guidance of others.
You deliberately move it to other sections, which is to hinder the opportunity for everyone to learn new knowledge.
To be honest, this software ?gambas?may have been developed for seven or eight years, and I didn't know it until now.
There is no mobile phone layout for this farm now, and all the pictures uploaded will be blurred.
Sometimes I even think it should be dedicated to that. Each page strongly recommends twinbasic or radbasic.
If these IDEs are paid, we should also actively recommend or charge some advertising fees.
If every software related to cp6, ah, all similar ones are suppressed by him, and we are not allowed to see them.
What is the significance of the existence of this forum?
In fact, our goal is to hope that more software can replace Vb6 and surpass Vb6.
For example, we can develop mobile app. b4A
Such a powerful product. I got the venture capital, from charging more than 1000 yuan a year to free now.
I didn't know until now that there is a basic IDE that can be developed on Linux.
If there is a mobile version of ID, I can open it and select various templates directly on it to quickly create applications.
Is the forum going to delete it or move it to a section that no one visits at all?
In fact, I feel like the news of Spring Cup every week or every month. What we need is to let more people know about it.Let our old users of VB6 also use it.
Microsoft's serious inaction, ah, abandoned Vb6 twenty-five years ago.
The net was abandoned again in 2020.
Now the Vba has been abandoned.
Microsoft and forums give us every chance.Give up every chance to let all users use python

Re: my first vb6 app in linux,by gambas,Does anyone know the author?
I've used Gambas in the past, may be versión 3.15 or around it. In fact I migrated (rewrote) whole app made in VB6 to Gambas and run it in a Rasberry PI with success, not a big project, just an app to control a device using RS232 comm, frontend with graphical interface, a camera...all was smooth and easy.
Works fine and is a very easy way to write an app for Linux if you come from the VB6 world. I don't like that Gambas that seems to me more a one-person-project than a compiler supported by a big community so I don't believe too much in the future of that tool.
I've used a lot of languages since the 80s and I agree with people that argue that VB6 is dead but is still one of the easiest (and powerful) tool to make a lot of applications. For me is like a Jaguar E-Type, who knows what it is will admire the car, who is just a fool will say that it's a bunch of trash and that a Tesla is better. And it is, but give me the Jaguar and laugh at me, I'm fine with that.

Agreed that a pre-2000s Jag is the more fun choice. However, VB6 is definitely NOT dead. The IDE is blisteringly fast, we have forthcoming language improvements and 64 bit capability in the form of TwinBasic and even the possibility of RADBasic eventually. Coupled with the graphics capabilities of RichClient, I am no longer coding for a dead language. VB6 is not dead, just divorced from MS and now in the care of a new lover.

Twinbasic or RADBasic are not VB6 like VB.NET it's not VB6, and both of them seem to me like Gambas.
My point of view is that VB6 is dead because the manufacturer (M$) abandoned it decades ago, that does not means that it's a dead tool, but as a product is dead. To be divorced VB6 should have been bought for another company (or go to open source) and then the things could be different.

Re: my first vb6 app in linux,by gambas,Does anyone know the author?
I'm much more positive than you. As long as I can code in VB6 compatible code, I can use the old IDE I am familiar with, I can somehow compile the code and the tool produces a 64 bit binary. That's enough for me, in fact that's Christmas as far I am concerned and I'm doing it in VB6, I don't care about the current moniker on the box and I will get used to the new IDE and language features if I choose to, in my own time. Be more positive.

If it can get enough financial support, it can also become an IDE as beautiful and powerful as IntelliJ IDEA and PyCharm made by JetBrains. Of course, as long as it is related to VB6, all big companies will abandon it and dislike it. At present, the most successful companies in the BASIC field are B4A and B4I. This company has received huge investments and provides B4A to develop Android APPs for everyone for free.

I don't care whether its functions reach the level of VB3.0 or VB7, vb.net, as long as the syntax is VISUAL BASIC, visual form design, and concise coding style. The more companies like this, the better. I prefer open source and free ones.
How many programming ides have you used to replace VB6?
Microsoft has stopped developing VB6 for 27 years. Only when there are more VB grammar series tools to replace VB6 and surpass it and realize more functions can we use it more conveniently. Actually, I think the similarity between python code and VB6 is 70%. Perhaps VB.NET was defeated by python.
Writing code with an IDE similar to VB6 can be converted into JAVA(B4A), and maybe VB6 code can be converted into PYTHON and javascript in the future.

Most users who choose to install the English version of Win10 system have encountered the problem that the Chinese in the original text document is displayed as garbled. So, when we encounter this problem, what should we do to make the system display normal? Below, Xiaobian will share with you the specific solution to the problem of Chinese display garbled code under the English version of Windows10.
Solution:
1. Click the Start menu and select the Settings menu.
2. Click TimeLanguage in the settings dialog box.
3. In the TIMELANGUAGE option, click RegionLanguage on the left. Then click Additional Date, Time, _ International Settings on the right.
4. Does this open window feel familiar? This is the control panel. Click Changelocation.
5. Click the Administrative tab in the Region dialog box. Click Changesystemlocation below.
6. Select Chinese(Simplified,China) from the drop-down list in the pop-up RegionSettings dialog box, which represents simplified Chinese, and there are some other Chinese in it. Don't make a mistake. At this time, a dialog box pops up to restart, and restart as needed.
7. After restarting, you will find that the Chinese in the directory list has become beautiful, and the garbled code in the text document is also good.
The above is the introduction of the solution to the problem of Chinese display garbled code under English version of Windows10. Is it very simple? Users who encounter the same problem may wish to refer to it!
