I just noticed TS stock is @ $12.50. If any of the main share holders start selling (especially Trump), the stock could be worthless in a hurry.

    Re: Truth Social

This isn't only happening on Truth Social but it does seem to be very fertile ground for victims. Which makes sense to me, Trump has been scamming them for years.

Hard to believe people will give large sums of money to these people they've only talked to on social media. Then continue to give more money in an effort to get it back. Feel bad for them.

Then continue to give more money in an effort to get it back
This bit doesn't surprise me. Once someone is emotionally invested, reinforcement bias sets in and they'll double down. If they've actually lost money that emotional investment will be STRONG. It's why most scams start by getting a mark to send a fairly low amount of money and then work upward from there.

I suspect that Truth Social users are somewhat more susceptible to scams because they're often passionately invested in being on that platform - it's kind of it's raison d'etre. That passion is probably pretty easy to exploit. And the "close community" probably leads to users viewing each other with more trust than they really ought to.

It's worth remembering, though, that anyone can be caught out by a scam. I nearly fell for one a while back. I had a problem with Outlook, went on line to see if I could find support and came across what legit looked like a Microsoft support site where I could have a live chat. An operator came on line, set up a remote access session to me machine and started poking around. I'm not an OS guy (I honestly find them completely opaque these day) but I knew enough to think "what's he doing in there... that's got nothing to do with Outlook" so I questioned it and they immediately dropped the session and the live chat. That's the moment the penny dropped and I realised just how close I'd come to being taken. Without my smattering of techy knowledge I would have been.

    Talking about lies

A giant Fake News Scam by CBS & 60 Minutes. Her REAL ANSWER WAS CRAZY, OR DUMB, so they actually REPLACED it with another answer in order to save her or, at least, make her look better. A FAKE NEWS SCAM, which is totally illegal. TAKE AWAY THE CBS LICENSE. Election Interference. She is a Moron, and the Fake News Media wants to hide that fact. An UNPRECEDENTED SCANDAL!!! The Dems got them to do this and should be forced to concede the Election? WOW!

CBS said he refused to do the scheduled interview because he would be fact-checked, which his campaign team called “unprecedented,” and because Trump claimed the network owes him an apology for an interview Leslie Stahl conducted in 2020. As CBS stated, “60 Minutes fact checks every story it broadcasts.”

I'll say it again. The Stock Market makes no sense. lol

Just notice that Truth Social is trading at $51+

So in a month the values is up 400%. A month ago it was on the verge of complete collapse.

I guess their buying because they thing Trump will win the election and that'll raise the value of the stock. Even if Trump wins I don't see Trump Social being profitable. But, what do I know???

Ye I was reading the thread but I did not want to interfere.Apparently predicting the stock market is not something that no one here has a clue about (me included), the stock could go up even if he looses and that is a lesson Greece has learned hard with the stock market crisis back in 1999.

Don't limit it like that. Playing in the stock market even if you DO know what you are doing entails a certain amount of risk. There was some research done a couple decades back that found that high priced stock pickers would routinely underperform what you would get by just betting an index, which is what index funds are all about. There are a few who have outperformed index funds, but it's not common, and it's generally not clear whether it was just luck or skill...unless it was insider trading.

Betting while not knowing or pretend to know is bad, simple as that. If someone wants to bet , go ahead, Greece lost homes, money, kidneys and such on the stock market, so, go ahead and call me negative biased.

    Re: Truth Social

    You're negative biased.

    But you're also correct.

I think Wes is right that Truth Social stock has had a resurgence on the chance of Trump winning the election. But it's a mistake to think that people are betting on it because that will make it profitable. When people bet on the stock market they're not betting on the profitability of the company, they're betting on the future value of the company. Profitability, or future profitability, is one of the factors that creates that future value (and should, arguably, be the only one that really matters) but it's not the only one. Other investors wanting to buy in is actually a far more influential one and that's the one that's at play here. Investors aren't betting that Truth Social will turn a profit, they're betting that other people will want to buy the stock.

It's a it like how the crypto market works (or any other form of currency trading). Crypto currency has precisely zero intrinsic value. It's nothing but a token that expresses "belief" in a system. It's ephemeral. But, none the less, there's a fairly busy trading environment around it because everyone's hoping that the one they buy into early will be the one that everyone else buys into slightly later.

That market can be pretty healthy when it surrounds some of the more reputable ones, e.g. BitCoin, Etherium etc. as long as you understand that what you're betting on is other people's belief. But it can also be extremely toxic once you get some high profile individuals gaming the system by pumping other peoples belief using their platform. That's how the various YouTuber Pump and Dump scemes work.

Well. Money is also ephemeral if you take the inflation into account or the crash of a country economy that stock market can make it so. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...d_bear_markets
So what is the value that people are exchanging from ancient times till now and it's not ethereal? Starts with a G .

Yes, 100%. All currency is nothing but an expression of belief in whatever backs it. Traditional currencies are more reliable than cryptos because they have National economies backing them but there's two BIG caveats: 1. those economies aren't infallible (as a Greek, you'll know that better than most of us) and 2: the Value of the currency isn't based on the economy, it's based on people's belief in that economy.

We had this discussion after the financial crash of 2008 and the following bank bailouts etc. It's interesting because people tend to miss how much of a factor belief plays in value. In 2008 it wasn't the US economy that changed, it was people's belief in the economy. When people discovered just how toxic the mortgage market had become they lost belief. But the issues in that market existed both before and after the event.

Yeah, I understand they're buying it because they think it will increase in value. The reason it makes no sense to me is I can't think of any reason to believe it will. Actually it makes no sense to me that it even still exists. It been nothing but a money pit. lol

Essentially, they're betting on other people wanting to buy it. N.b. it doesn't need to have anything to do with any intrinsic value that the company might hold, just that some else will want to buy it for some reason. The someone else and the some reason can be completely amorphous, it's enough just to believe that the someone else exists and they'll have their own some reason.

In this case I suspect the bet is that the someone else is MAGA fans and the some reason is gullibility and cult like desire to please the leader. It might also be a bet on Trump being corrupt enough to pump public money into the company if he wins the election. A slightly less partisan bet might be that, if he wins, it's likely he'll legitimately pass legislation that favours his own businesses. Indeed, it's likely just that the market is betting that there are several someone elses with various some reasons but don't really care to actually bother identifying them.

I think you're looking for a concrete reason but there doesn't need to be one.

It would be interesting to know if the stock is mainly being bought by small investing individuals or large fund managers.

The ownership structure of Truth Social (DJT) stock is a mix of institutional, retail, and individual investors.

Approximately 4.79% of the company’s stock is owned by Institutional Investors,
    57.69% is owned by Insiders,
and 37.53% is owned by Public Companies and Individual Investors.

I don't know where the "small guys" fit in there.
