    2024 Suggestions

Hey guys. Long time no see.

Well, it's 2024 and we are now in an age where VBForums will need new potential sections to help embrace the future:

Python: There are now 15.7 million users worldwide that use Python, one of the most popular programming languages due to its simplicity and ability to do machine learning and analyze data. It is now the leading programming language when it comes to artificial intelligence as well. Currently, Python-related forums are being used in the Other Languages section. I think we are past that by now.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: We have entered the era of artificial intelligence, marked by intense competition among tech giants like OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Microsoft to develop superior language models and generative pre-trained transformers. The advent of these technologies heralds significant shifts in the job market, with automation set to redefine numerous roles. Businesses that fail to integrate AI and Machine Learning may find themselves struggling to compete. As we move forward, AI's influence is expected to permeate every facet of our daily lives, becoming an ubiquitous presence if it isn't already from streaming services recommending content to autonomous vehicles. We now have AI able to produce not only text, images, audio, and video, but also many other forms of data. And machine learning is now used for far more than just categorizing and analyzing data. I propose we have this new VBForums section to help embrace this future for other future AI and Machine Learning enthusiasts. And it can be done more than with just Python but with any programming language. It will also be very educational. Who knows, maybe VB developers will help make a GPU / TPU driven AI API library that can be used for VB.Net or even VB6 one day.

    What are your thoughts?

Would need to see a LOT of additional feedback on what others think.

How many Python/AI experts use the forums to provide answers to questions? This works for VB because of the quality of the provided answers. Will the same be true for other forums or will these just become populated with questions and very few answers? A forum without quality answers will probably just wither

The issue we run into is that there are many different programming languages and each rise and fall in popularity overtime.

A great example is our jQuery forum. Technically it should be encapsulated under the XML, HTML, Javascript, Web and CSS forum but it has its own separate forum because at one time jQuery was the JavaScript framework of choice when web compatibility was terrible (I'm looking at you IE). But ever since Internet Explorer has been sunset and Chromium based browsers are now the norm, jQuery has fallen out of favor. So what do we do with the jQuery forum now?

I could see a similar situation happening with Python because the language has serious flaws (why on earth does whitespace dictate structure?). It's foreseeable that in 5 years or less we see a superset language emerge built on top of Python to handle its many shortcomings but is still compatible with what is being done with its niche domains (namely AI).

The Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning forum on the other hand is a great idea. It is language agnostic (although it would probably be very Python heavy) but it encompass a domain that I feel will only continue to grow and stay.

I'd sooner see a forum for the twinBASIC programming language.

But I agree there should be an Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning forum.

Sorry for the late reply. Back at school at my final semester before I graduate.

There should definitely be a section on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning because it is not going away anytime soon and it is here to stay. I am personally trying to get an IBM AI Engineering cerrificate through Coursera, and plan to take the Microsoft AI-900 exam in the near future to put myself in a better field that pushes what can be possible in the future. And in my Journey, I could use some help from other developers from all over the world. I would love to see more feedback on this if that is what it is going to take to get an AI section here in VBForums. Also, I can see the new section bringing in new members.
