    Resolved [RESOLVED] Unregistered Database

I am trying to setup an Access database to use with my application. I placed the database into the folder that I want to use it from. The VB project folder.

When I run the application I get the following error.

The Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12 provider is not registered on the local machine.
It has been a while since I last used Access, so I have probably done something wrong with the setup, but I have no idea what that might be. When I used this Access in the past, I never had this problem.

So, my question is, how does one properly setup and use an Access DB and why is it claiming that my database is not registered on this machine? How does one fix that?

Access is part of the annual outrageously priced license (it really isn't outrageous, but one must always claim that). So how can it be not registered?

    Re: Unregistered Database

It's not saying the database is not registered, it's saying the PROVIDER isn't register. You can download and install the provider. There is a 32 and 64bit version. So make sure it matches what your app is using.

If MS Office is installed on the machine I'm surprised the provider isn't already installed. But not all Office packages come with Access or may it not the right version.

Got it. I checked and while it was not clear, I believe I am running the 64 bit version. Having said that, it turns out that I needed the 32 bit DatabaseEngine file, so I am wrong about that too. Anyway, I no longer get that message and I can now access the Access (really a bad name choice).

    Thanks.
