Re: Next US government shutdown in a few weeks

We have some crazies in he world. They call themselves the C40:

Alarm grows over major climate proposal to slash flights, food, clothing

Frontline News reported in May on the climate proposal from C40, a network of nearly 100 mayors who have pledged to transform their cities to meet the World Health Organization’s Air Quality Guidelines. Participating cities include Los Angeles, New York City, Washington, DC, Dubai, Mumbai, Barcelona, Paris, London, Tel Aviv, Beijing, Cape Town, Tokyo, Sydney, and others.

To meet the WHO’s guidelines, C40 has proposed a slew of measures such as limiting taxpayers to one flight every two years, which the proposal refers to as the “progressive target for 2030.” The “ambitious target” for 2030 limits flights to one every three years. Each flight should be limited to a distance of no more than 1,500 km (932 miles).

Other C40 initiatives include reducing the consumption of clothing and textiles by 39% by 2030, which tallies to eight new garments a year. The ambitious target, however, is only three garments per year.
Another recommendation in the C40 climate report includes a meal plan for taxpayers called the Planetary Health Diet. The diet is limited to 2,500 calories a day and is mostly plant based, with 50% fruits and vegetables and 50% other foods such as whole grains, plant-based protein, legumes, nuts, and small amounts of animal-sourced protein.

“Cities committing to this accelerator will work with residents to achieve a ‘Planetary Health Diet’ for all by 2030, with balanced and nutritious food, reflective of the culture, geography, and demography of their residents,” reads the C40 website.

By 2050, however, the C40 intends for there to be no dairy or meat consumption at all.
The conglomerate also seeks to phase out private vehicles completely by 2050.
The global authoritarian cabal is really feeling its oats.

I'm surprised though. No mention of eating bugs and slugs there.

Re: Next US government shutdown in a few weeks

Asked by Lisa Desjardins of PBS NewsHour whether there will be a shutdown, McCarthy responded, “I don’t know. Ask President Biden.”

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...hifting-blame/

His had made a link between border security and is starting to point fingers at Democrats in a bid to pin a shutdown on disagreements over border security. There some irony there...he is refusing to allow democrats to even be part of the negotiations.

Re: Next US government shutdown in a few weeks

Several of those cities are notorious for air quality. That often has as much to do with topography as anything else. Boise doesn't have all that many people, but because of the topography in the area, we get inversions every winter. That likely didn't matter much 100 years back, but now it almost certainly shortens lives for those living here. When you can see the air in the valley when you are up in the hills...that's bad. LA is like that, Beijing and Mumbai are worse (though Beijing is improving rapidly, I hear).

The other thing about this is that we're talking about mayors. They lack the ability to do anything of any substance in any of these areas. That makes it just talk.

Still, I wonder about the flights part. Flying for short distances uses less fuel, but only because the engines are not running for as long. That doesn't make sense to me. I'd say that it would make more sense to limit flights to those over 900 miles, not under. For shorter distances, there are other options, but for long distances, there aren't good alternatives.

I don't see enough effort toward compromise on either side, and some of that is hard to trust - would they really follow through? The politics around the GOP debates aren't making any of them attractive either. Not that Trump is any prize, especially considering the shenanigans brought to bear to try to hamstring him. His popularity remains high due to a lack of alternatives willing to push back against anti-Americanism.

Every day it looks more orchestrated, a Punch And Judy show with a single puppeteer beneath the stage.

The funny thing is that those, if we continue voting sloths, will actually happen.
I come to the conclusion that most people are idiots, the will vote for their idiots that are governed by idiots that are governed by NWO, that are just pissed off aslfhols because they are going to die no matter what.
Or those that resist are idiots, they can't grasp the idea of sort flights, ehh, Shaggy? Ehh? Wink wink!

It's not so much that they are idiots - I'm not saying they are not idiots, but that them being idiots isn't the problem in the first place - but rather they would rather vote for someone, even if that person openly says they're going to make you life harder, just so "the other guy" doesn't win. That's the base mentality we're dealing with. They would rather stab themselves in the lung just to prevent someone else from receiving help or any benefit of any kind. I saw it even more the other day when Trump came to town for a campaign rally. The people on the street interviews were.... well, they had colorful people and it was obvious it was mostly out of towners.

Agree but p.e. in Greece, people voted for a traitor not to win, with another traitor.

I think it is more about being unwilling to stand mute and be robbed just to reward the chosen while the robbers retain a big slice of that pie for themselves. Especially when this robbing and rewarding (wealth transfer) is meant to keep the groups angry with each other while the robbers gain in wealth and power.

Interesting and of course the terms are Greek.
It might be relevant to quote Socrates:
"Wickedness is for the slaves, virtue is for the free" .
And to the scared idiot voters:
"Thunders scare children and threads idiots"

May we all find a way to expel those puppets that govern us. Amen.

Re: Next US government shutdown in a few weeks

In Greece, as in the US, we end up picking between two people. The parties put forwards those two people, and the party nominations leave plenty to be desired. The result is that Biden is the most centrist option from 2020, and likely will be in 2024. Nobody is thrilled about him, but the system doesn't usually help centrists.

On the other hand, every election must be conducted under a set of rules, whatever those rules may be. Also whatever the rules may be, they will favor one type of candidate over another. Game theory works.

    It's other factors also.
Some politic help a person's kid to find a job in the public sector or did a deed for him/her. Practically that was what was happening from 1980's to 2000. Then the public sector got bloated , no more jobs so the leading party of traitors back then, lost the elections. Nowadays they just vote out of few, losing your job, less money, fakevid, fires, floods , the government give some puny money coupons so scared people take them and thank them (see Socrates).
I'm usually not to take as an axiom that many people I meet are below average intelligence, I mean people that are work with me tend not to be of average intelligence as the company, at least our branch, is private and private companies, on the top of a countries list, tend not to hire idiots....On the other hand I think from recent voting and people general behavior nowadays, unfortunately I must agree that there are quite a few morons out there.

Well if hte people you're wsorking wioth are average or above average, then for each one of those people, there's corresponding below average person running around. and they can vote.
It's like ghosts... just because you can't see them doesn't mean they don't exist.

That would imply that below average people are voting BS. That might well be but I know people above average that are doing the same. I still have collogues that wear masks for fakevid . Granted they are 5-6 over 3-500 but still...
Also (forger Greece it does not apply). In US if we have to assume that the 2 parties are voted from below average one and above average the other then all the votes of one party are stupid and all on the other smart. Counting from this site that people are above average , it does not apply.

Re: Next US government shutdown in a few weeks

You and your fakevid. COVID is most likely the reason I ended up in the hospital last year. First time I've spent a night in a hospital since some bike accidents almost 40 years ago. You can wish it away all you want, but reality doesn't care about your beliefs.

Also, the lack of masks is a western thing. Mask wearing was always far more common in a variety of Asian countries. Not breathing in other people emissions isn't exactly a bad thing, regardless of what you think about COVID...unless you also don't believe in germ theory.

That's the problem with the whole "50% of people are below average" thing. It's a funny argument, but when it comes to intelligence...it's also a pretty fluid subject. I worked with a guy who was a brilliant programmer. His intelligence was unquestionably quite high in that area. He was also pretty naive in some other areas, but when it came to programming, his intelligence led to him doing some things that were ultimately pretty bad. He ended up writing code where you had to have profound knowledge to be able to understand it. That made it unmaintainable, which is clearly bad code (or job security), yet it was only bad at the structural level. When it came to individual functions, it was quite sound.

Intelligence doesn't mean we all agree.

Well you shouldn't have vaccinated or wore masks but Pfizer thanks you so much.
Anyhow as I've said a while back there is no chance I'm starting again, do the 20th dose for all I care.
Masks on another subject was NOT a thing in Europe and I'm betting the states also. Now I see people alone in the road or worse alone in cars wearing masks. Those are clearly idiots but as I've said we have some high intelligence persons on the company that wore masks even when I was coming and going in the summer where we must have been 5-6 people in all the buildings.
Also intelligence does spread, as you've said. I'm pretty average programmer but I'm higher on marketing or hardware abbreviations also I was high up on sports intelligence where it was football (the other football) or basketball etc. What I find grotesque is high intelligent people voting traitors and try to justify. I'm immediate in a whistling streak running away from the direction of the intelligent idiot.

Yeah. I once had a senior manager (non-IT) whose view of this was 'I pay you guys a lot of money to read and write code. If you don't/can't understand code that someone has written or can't write required code just let me know and I'll give you your P45 (employment termination) and I'll hire someone who can'.

Well I would have been fired in a snap if that was a requirement on my previous job on an insurance company.
The code was blots and blots of xml , xml schema, xml transmutation , xml abbreviations with custom xml reading tools inside xml reading tools.
So I could write code but I could not understand it (at least not completely) because an intelligent idiot wrote it. Also the same idiot (I took his job as he left the company and I did not know who he was until...) came one day to the company and he was like, HELLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!, HARHARHARHAAAAAA! HEEEEEYYYYY!!! LOUUUD LOUDD LOUDDDD!!!! HAAHAAHAAAAAA!!! I total and utterly despise those type of person, the "I'm in a tavern screaming like a little baby and laughing like it's my last laugh because I'm a happy idiot". Anyhow I immediately understand why the code was like that. Good thing VS did not scream when it loaded up.

I agree, they weren't a thing in the US, but hypochondria certainly has been with us for a while. I knew a gal at work who wouldn't touch...well, pretty nearly anything, as far as I could tell. She'd use a paper towel to turn the faucet on the sink. Think of what a blessing COVID was for folks like that. They've been quietly freaking out for all that time, and can now do so openly. If you see somebody wearing a mask in a car, don't think idiot first, think hypochondria.

That's not to belittle it, either. If that's who you are, that's who you live with. They aren't faking, it's their reality. I've never known a person who didn't have at least one phobia. If it's not heights (me, though not paralyzingly so), it's claustrophobia (not me, as I'm a caver), or snakes, or public speaking, or clowns, or having peanut butter stuck to the roof of your mouth.

I found a function that returned type Object. That object could be one of three things that weren't even vaguely related to one another. Essentially, if you passed in one set of arguments, you'd get back a number. If you passed in another set, you'd get back a badger. If you passed in the third...you'd get back Nothing. That last one was also clearly a bug, but since no place that called this commonly referenced function checked what it got back, and the program worked, then either no place it was called ever got the Nothing response, or there was some place that only worked if it DID get Nothing as a response.

Or simply forgot to take it off when they got in the car, I've done it many times. But it doesn't surprise me sapator's first thought is "idiot".

Yeah, being a good programmer doesn't mean you are highly intelligent. Just means your good at the type of things programming requires. I know I'm below average in a lot of other things that life requires you to deal with.

So the general idea is that they would be laughed at wearing a mask. OK we had a new type of flue (ahh good times) every year before covid and doctors warned us to take precaution, did no see much from the hypochondrious also if you are hypochondrious then you should be changing your mask every day by doctor standards. Well at least the people I know of do not, so you don't like the term idiots (that again it's not what you think it is and should not be used by i do it so we can have a common understanding) , OK lets call them misguided hypochondrious wannabe barkathemooners flourcakes. Happy?...Those idiots...Grrrrr...
I don't know, I can't think of a best fear really, probably playing a gig and have to go no2. Maybe.

    Yeah
To be honest it's not a fear , paralyzing or something, I just couldn't think one of those.
Also not to be the usual pain in the Greekz but you wrote it wrong the "a" in aphobia give it the opposite meaning, so it's Giveacraphobia (2p seems weird also it will end up with no1 , 2p, have , 2p )

Its crunch time...so what was on the republican agenda yesterday? The Biden impeachment inquiry. I watched almost all of it. It was the typical each member gets five minutes and democrats and republicans alternate. The republicans attacked Biden and the democrats attacked the process and pointed out many times while they were there government agencies were preparing for the shutdown. The democrats were pulling a "stunt" I never saw before that visibly angered the republican chair. The would make a motion to submit something into the record and get a chance to read it out loud. It was always some article or quote about what a sham the proceedings are. One democrat had the same article entered seven times. When all the democrats had there turns the republicans basically took over the proceedings. The democrats walked out and gave them he show. Only FOX news covered it live. One of the "experts" on the panel was a FOX news regular.

Also not to be the usual pain in the Greekz but you wrote it wrong the "a" in aphobia give it the opposite meaning, so it's Giveacraphobia (2p seems weird also it will end up with no1 , 2p, have , 2p )
That's a fair point, but since I was making up a word, I wanted to make up a word that rolled off the tongue more easily. When discussing THAT topic, rolling it off the tongue more easily is important. Also, I always assumed that "phobia" had a Greek origin. It isn't even disguised. Still, when making up a word, it's hard to say whether or not it truly has an origin in a different language. It sampled that different language, but it didn't come from that different language.

I wasn't around. This was just a committee wasn't it? This wasn't the full house, right? If so, then it has no real impact on the budget issues...or at least not a negative impact, as it might have a slight positive impact. The budget negotiations are taking place elsewhere. Perhaps keeping a few wingnuts busy with other things would help saner heads prevail.

I fully expect the shutdown to happen. I'd be surprised if it does not. I'd be quite intrigued if it did not. Still, I don't expect to be intrigued, and am already factoring it in.

Fair enough but then the correct would be: GiveacrapOphobia , that would suffice and rolls nice.

So Feinstein passed away last night .... so it'll be interesting how this changes things. Obviously there will be a special appointment for a replacement (I think that's how it works, the Governor gets to appoint someone pro-tem, until a special election can be had.)

Hadn't heard about her death, yet, but you're right. It will change nothing of substance when it comes to the balance of power, because a Democrat will be appointed and then a Democrat will win the election.

I've always wondered about the legitimacy of "seniority" power in Congressional activities. I can't remember anything supporting that, but I haven't gone over the Constitution with a magnifying glass.

Still, if my district elects Joe Schmoe to represent us he should arrive in D.C. with as much of a voice as some corrupt long-timer deep in the pockets of his aligned interests.

The whole "committee" thing stinks to high heaven of not intended.

Since the Founders never addressed scalability very well I guess that left the mice to play. I seem to recall an interview with Teddy Roosevelt where he said the same thing in stronger words, so it isn't exactly new. The problems were probably already apparent in Lincoln's day.

    Will this effect you???

I feel bad for the people it will negatively impact, other than that I don't give it much thought.

It's how things work out. It isn't in the Constitution, it's in our constitution. People who enter an institution that has been around for a long time (not necessarily a couple hundred years, but it could be that long) will come in either a bit uncertain, confident but restrained, or brash and clueless. Nobody comes into a completely new group of people/situation with a full understanding of what levers to pull and when. How does that person learn? They might learn by talking to people who are there. They might learn by watching. They might learn by trial and error. They might not learn at all. Congress is only different in that everybody there is hot stuff and they know it (whether you think so or not is irrelevant to them). What that means is that somebody who comes in thinking they can just buffalo everybody else is going to find that everybody else is also trying to buffalo them.

The result of it all is that people who have been around for a time have knowledge of how to get things done in that system that new folks don't have. Furthermore, they elect their party leadership, which is something of a popularity contest, but also gives somebody the authority to set the rules under which they all play. Seniority isn't likely to ever go away because the only way it will is if the people who benefit from it decide to end it. Not agree to end it, decide to.

This kind of system arises in any group of humans organized together where the membership changes over time at a fairly slow pace.

It does and it doesn't. It affects the company that I work for as a gov't contractor, but the specific project I'm on is funded differenly. It's a weird thing, I'm not sure how it works, I just know that because of that alternate funding, it does't affect the project I'm on. But, yeah, come Monday, there's going to be a lot of professional development going on by people. At least no one's going to be laid off because of it.

So it's like when Napoleon's faction of the pigs moved into the farmhouse and started wearing clothes, eventually socializing with human farmers from the surrounding area.
