Trump can raise the debt ceiling once he's President. He doesn't require the Dems to do it. He wants the Dems to do it because of the optics but the ceiling is not about to be breached.
Trump cannot do that, he doesn't have the power. I doubt the republicans can do it without democrats. The republicans used it as a tool for years, I'm not sure they are willing to give it up. Although they are willing to give there souls to the orange headed beast.

Re: Next US government shutdown in a few weeks
Sorry, I wasn't very clear there. What I meant to point out was that there is no need for it to be raised now as it's not in danger of being breached. So it could be delayed and raised during the Trump term to allow for Trump's spending plans. The reason he's pushing for it to be raised now is so that he can say "it wasn't me that raised it".
The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter - Winston Churchill
Hadoop actually sounds more like the way they greet each other in Yorkshire - Inferrd
It's Congress that can raise it ... and since it is currently (and will continue to be) Republican controlled, doing so would be a hard sell, but yeah, to do it at this point would give the Biden the "win",

I see...I jumped on the first part and didn't digest the rest. My bad...
We aren't at the absolute last minute, yet, but this is certainly looking like there will be a shutdown, this time. I believe Speaker Johnson is pretty good at his job, and might be able to find a solution. He's proven to be a whole lot more adept than I thought he would be. He has the useful feature that people trust his word, which isn't something that could be said about some recent speakers.
Still, his party is chaos, and it's getting worse by the day.
Two big egos like that, there has to be a falling out, I don't think Trump will allow someone taking the limelight until he is done with them
I not sure about that. Trump is very intimidated very powerful people. It was embarrassing seeing how submissive he was to Putin. He happily threw the US under the bus to keep him happy. Off camera he was probably bending over backwards and kissing more than his ring.
Well, another last minute CR to avoid shutdown. Nothing new there.
Haven't read a lot about what's in it but I get the impression there's no major changes from the original one. Both sides say they won, so that's a good sign. lol

It is a manifestation of a system that has become dominated by ideologues from the extreme left and extreme right.
That's not really true though. Both Democrats and Republicans keep moving further to the right. If there are actually extreme left-wing views out there in the US, they are held by people who may vote Democratic but are likely not even registered Democrats. Look at the people who refused to vote for Kamala Harios because the Democratic party were too sympathetic to Israel over Gaza. It's somehow considered extreme by many in the US to oppose a literal genocide but most Democrats don't or won't even do that. There are literally no extreme left-wing Democratic politicians in congress. Even Bernie Sanders is hardly even extreme left, but he's not actually a Democrat anyway. It really pisses me off how so many people either push or swallow Republican propaganda that Democrats are far left. I saw a video recently where Stepen A Smith was talking about how one of the reasons that Kamala Harris lost to Assistant First Lady Tramp is that Democrats were pushing "trans ideology", but that's utter crap. It is literally Republican propaganda. There are plenty of Democratic voters who vocally support the rights of trans people but, as far as politicians are concerned, it's Republicans who won't shut about gender. Kamala Harris barely, if ever, even mentioned it, yet even a vocal Democratic supporter like Smith has been conned into believing that she was all about it.
The silliest part of this is that it deviates very little from Pelosi's last funding bill. It is just a continuation of her 2023 bill with trivial tweaks.
