I think once fakes outpace fake detectors we'll see most mainstream devices with cryptographic authenticity signatures as the default option. Sure devices that don't produce them will always exist, but when the vast majority of devices produce them by default nobody will believe anything coming from the small percent of materials without signed originals, at least for anything important (you can already fool most people into believing whatever conforms to their political/religious/emotional biases).
That's basically what I was saying, though you were more specific about it. Authentication signatures are just forms of notarization. Once nobody can trust any digital media, it will have to be notarized, just as documents have to be notarized when trust is an issue.
