Re: Current Russia Ukraine tensions
Funny though. Within my lifetime it was a pretty common thing for high schools in the US to offer classes in classical Latin, Greek, and Hebrew.
By the time I got there only Latin remained in the curriculum of my High School.
I must have been very near the point of change. When I started 7th Grade it involved a move from Primary (Elementary) School (K-6) to a Junior High School (7, 8, and 9). There we were issued student handbooks for the school, and those still listed a Latin Club and Greek Club in addition to similar student groups for German and French. But all that was left in the curriculum was a 9th Grade Latin class and 8th and 9th Grade French classes. But it was clear that just years before the Junigh High level offered classical languages as well.
I guess this was part of the de-academization of secondary education.

We don't treat our language as it must be treated here. We take it for granted. Shame as it's the spark of all modern western languages. I mean more foreign students are learning ancient Greek than Greeks do.
And I did the same in school, I just studied enough ancient to pass. I regret that now but I can always get back into studying more ancient Greek.

Technically, there are more foreign students than Greek students, so even if a small percentage were learning Greek, they would surely outnumber the Greeks.
Latin was taught in my school when I was there. Not sure whether it still is. I probably should have taken that. It would be more useful for English etymology. As it is, all I know is about Latin is from this:

Re: Current Russia Ukraine tensions
I did not explain it well.
I mean that the class seems like a burden and I was taking it as a burden also. I shouldn't have. Of course the number would be excessive if you compare the world vs Greek students. You should consider percentage per population and foreignness. We ought to be at least on 25% and we might well be on 1-2% .
I learned some French but not in school but since I'm not using it I keep forgetting it more and more.

Also, I wasn't quite clear whether you were making a distinction between ancient Greek and modern Greek. I think you were talking about learning ancient Greek.

Yes Ancient Greek, in any step of the education system.
I should think that you should be better of learning the ancient than the modern.Get to the source of what we speak because of it.

Your modern English is better than my Greek, ancient or otherwise.
I took Latin at school but I was at a boarding school so it's not very representative of our national school system. About the only thing I can remember is Virgil calling a horse "Sonipes" which loosely translates to Clatterfoot. I have no idea why that stuck with me.

Well my English ain't that great but since you understand what I'm saying (most of the time ) ...
Latin I believe is or was a must for Layers. Latin was mandatory to become a layer a couple of years ago, not sure if it's still mandatory. We got a couple of layers at works so I can..Sue this forum arse...Hmm, I mean, I can see if they are Latin involved, still.
Also Ancient Greek, are , Yoda's . Meaning they go about Strong the force is in him, not, the force is strong in him. I believe they "stole" that to make Yoda seem wise, so, without knowing an inch of Greek, you can see how it has that spark in it.

Re: Current Russia Ukraine tensions
Yes I meant lawyers.
In Greek you would write Δικηγόροι , you can then wrongly write Δηκοιγόροι , Δικιγόρι, Δυκειγόρι,Δικηγόρει (actually this one is correct, it mean practicing the law) but you will still understand what the word is as those are all 'I' 's , if you go write Δικγηγόροι (w = Greek y) you just wrote gibberish.

Re: Current Russia Ukraine tensions
Delta is a big enough joke on it's own.
Living out in the American west, there is a constant pressure to build houses, these days. What was once farmland is now housing developments. They aren't all the same. Instead of building utterly cookie cutter houses, they vary the designs just enough so that the houses look kind of unique...without actually being unique.
People aren't necessarily thrilled about this development, though. The resistance to the development of rangeland could really be considered ohm on the range.

Not yet. Four more days (or maybe five, it depends on whenever the Olympics actually end, and I haven' been paying attention enough to know).
Not sure they will, though. It all depends on the calculations that Putin is doing. I think he will lose more than he would gain, and I'm beginning to think that he's leaning that way. Still, I think he's found another factor in the equation, so I think there's a third option on the table.

I graduated '91 ... when I started high school, fall 87 we had the "basics" for foreign languages - Spanish, French, and Latin. That was it. Then some where there was an explosion - I think it was due to the sudden interest in AP (Advanced Placement) classes and the expanded offerings from it. My senior year we had Japanese, French, Latin, Spanish, German, Italian, and there were rumors that in the coming fall there would be another being added.
Not sure where things are at today though.

Really this is impacting not them alone... The global market as well.. I belong to india where i see the volatility highly due to these causes. Many retail traders like me are facing troubles due to this unexpected things.
My simple question is why can't the governments sought these issues peacefully. Still they want to drag it for many years ahead? It seems merely solvable .. either one side has to show sign of peace . So they can concentrate on other major problems or threats that exists for their country.
