Not receiving mail, hosting company's SMTP server IP4 69.72.42.12 in the BL :(

    G'Day Guys

I'm a 'newbie' here, but I have subscribed to be notified for a few posts and never received many emails from you.

As you can see from below it is because your hosting companies SMTP server is in the BL at uceprotect.net

11-08-2021 05:40:55 PM SMTP Server: Remote host 69.72.42.12 (m42-12.mailgun.net) found in blacklist at dnsbl-1.uceprotect.net

You should forward this to have them to have the IPV4 removed from the BL, but I think you will find that mailgun has been hacked and spam has been leaking from this IPV4 probably for many years.

This is what happens when you get cheap / free hosting for sites

Note that just about ALL domains or ISPs have computers on them that have been hacked and are sending out spam. Just about any domain can get blacklisted due to this issue. That is why blacklists are essentially useless in stopping spam. Hackers change spam sending domains all the time.

Re: Not receiving mail, hosting company's SMTP server IP4 69.72.42.12 in the BL :(

That is simply no true. From 20+ years exper. supplying and supporting systems to .gov.au and .gov.nz their servers have never been hacked.

Check the static IP that I use to connect to your forum and this has never been in the BL. I have been very 'honest' and not using T O R to connect to your forum.

Did you check why '69.72.42.12' is in their BL, it makes interesting reading

mailgun.net make lots of short term decisions, selling hosting to hackers, just like many other hosting companies.

We host 100s of domains < 1K and in 20+ years we have never had any server hacked and have never received a spam message due to #NoSpamAccepted ( NSA )

I notice that the notification for your post was delivered via a different channel, notice the domain is 'mailgun.us' and the IPV4 104.130.96.5 is not in the BL either

Read my post again. I never said SERVERS were hacked. I said USERS (client computers) were hacked. These can then be used to send out spam from their ISPs domain, using any mail system, and that can get your ISPs domain blacklisted.

Since you are the ONLY person with issues.... I vote you switch to a @Gmail.com account.

    Read my post again Steve.

I only had issues receiving a notification from mailgun.net, obviously because that IPV4 is in the BL !!!

The gov. of AU and NZ both believe in BLs, it is an example of organisations that do believe in BLs.

I see you are in the US and we all know what you do to aussies that are whistleblowers.

This is another example of shooting the messenger.

I would not use a gmail account either, however, if you use an email provider that uses blacklists you are going to find that you will not get much if any notification email. The correct way to block spam is to verify that the email actually came from the source that the header says it came from.

Re: Not receiving mail, hosting company's SMTP server IP4 69.72.42.12 in the BL :(

    G'Day JDC

I would humbly like to suggest that after more than 20+ years exp. with SMTP and not having received any spam for that time, except via gmail, there is a much better way to defeat spam and provide a very poor experience for the spammers.

Yes I was running an SMTP server ( Just 1 ) on a Bulletin Board under IBM OS/2 in the early to mid '90s and you have probably never heard of OS/2 Warp !!!

The original developers of NSA would say in meetings " Why are you offering a stella experience to hackers ? ", NSA puts connections from hackers to sleep, sometimes for more than 10 minutes. We have noticed over the years less and less attempts to deliver spam, in the early days we would add 1000s of new rows to the IP tables each day, one day this month we added just 1 -> 146.0.78.102

BLs have always worked really well for us and once we find an IP on a external BL it is a manual process to remove it from our internal BL. This would have only happened 2 or 3 times in the last 15 years.

I just went back 10 years in one of our IP DBs and found an example IP that was first seem inbound on port 25 - 41.137.63.202 in 29/9/11

    29/09/11 5:34:38 AM - EHLO localhost
    29/09/11 5:34:38 AM - MAIL FROM: <0-3t@cancer.org>
    29/09/11 5:34:38 AM - RCPT TO:<bdea435e@ [ R E D A C T E D ] >
    29/09/11 5:34:38 AM - RCPT TO:<juana@ [ R E D A C T E D ] >
    29/09/11 5:34:38 AM - Disconnect of session - 20110929173

This IP was on an ext. BL on first attempt and has attempted to deliver spam once every 6 months until now, it is no longer in the ext. BL and it now has a reverse ptr record.

BTW - Most hackers are so lazy they do not create a rev. ptr dns record. - "No Hostname"

    On 23/6/12

    23/06/2012 11:51:10 PM - TCPIP - 41.137.63.202
    23/06/2012 11:51:11 PM - helo stilhaus.kiev.ua
    23/06/2012 11:51:12 PM - mail from:<xeryziw@stilhaus.kiev.ua>
    23/06/2012 11:51:12 PM - quit
    23/06/2012 11:51:12 PM - Disconnect of session - Prd-T110-01 - 201206231750

Due to the way NSA works if they had been removed from the internal BL they would not have been able to del. any spam, but as you can see BL meant we knew this session was suspect very early on during the protocol and put them asleep more than once due to their high score.

For many years I would visit my 'friends' on the dark web daily and ask them "Have you heard of NoSpamAccepted ( NSA ) and have you been able to deliver spam, I even 'helped' them with their virus designs and anti detection techniques to build trust.

Since we are talking emails here - I'm really proud of this one!

Sent over 750,000 thousand emails from one client's exchange server (or whatever MS calls it in the cloud). Average of 250,000 year for the last three years! EMails went to over 40,000 different recipients - to gmails and yahoos or whatevers.

Never been black listed! Good feeling!

    G'Day szlamany

G8 post, this just confirms what I have seen, if you don't spam anyone with Ads., ppl are eager to get your emails and you don't get any grief

My family originally lived on large farms and my grand father was a legend for saying he does not need any fences on his farms, his animals didn't walk off because he always provided them with water and food, so why would they leave.

But, the police said he had to have fences because some people were getting "confused" about who owned these nice fat cows, the criminals told the police they put the cows in their trucks so they could return them to my grandfather - S U R E

We have open range. Ranchers just bring the cows out and drop them off. I've always wondered about that....but not enough to bother asking anybody.

Just to be clear: Moderators have nothing to do with the company that owns the site. Steve Jones has something to do with them, but the mods are a bunch of volunteers. I have about as much say over what the 'hosting' company is up to as you do.

Speaking of ads.....It's worth noting that the company that owns the site does performance marketing.
