Troubleshooting Hardware
This is an area that has always eluded me as I encounter it rarely. FOR EXAMPLE (I refer to printer here as most everyone has one, but could be any hardware).
You use the Print dialog (whatever one the App furnishes), the printer makes some noise, but the document doesn't print.
You go to manage printers and see that the document is stuck in the spooler. You cancel the document -- which takes forever to cancel, if it does cancel without a reboot -- and try again. Same thing occurs. You now go to Control panel, find the printer and select printer properties. Printer dialog pops up. Whatever tab says the "driver is working fine". You go to the other tabs,
(e.g. Events) and say duh! what does this all mean. You now run the printer troubleshooter and no help.
So my questions are:
1) Where does one go from here?
2) Is there a book that details how to troubleshoot hardware --and-- explains all the information (e.g. Events, etc.) Microsoft provides that I and most other people don't know what it means.
