Resolved [RESOLVED] Win-10 Fax and Scan and HP2400 Scanner Issues

    1) When I go into Fax and Scan and Select Preview, the document shows and looks correct. When I then hit Scan
I end up with either a white page with junk on it -- or -- Fax and Scan hangs.

    2) "If" I am able to get a single page scanned, I need to reboot the computer to get Fax and Scan to work again.

    3) Also when the Scanner gives junk, but did Scan, the scan took forever.

BTW, as always with my hardware, device driver says Latest and "Working"

    Any ideas?

    =======================
Note 1: The last freeze up while I was in Task Manager, I right clicked Fax and Scan and selected properties. Did Not change only selected and exited. I then ignored PreView and just used Scan and was able to do multiple pages. Another Windows goblin!

Post the make and model of the scanner or MFC that you are using.

    jdc2000: Thanks for responding.

    Scanner is:

    HP Scanjet 2400.
Using MS Win-10 driver for it.

HP wants you to dump that scanner and buy a new one if you are using Windows 10. They do not supply Windows 10 drivers for it. The Microsoft drivers, as you have already discovered, are not really very useful.

There may be third-party drivers available that might work. Note that I have not tested or checked into the reputation or security of the software at the link below, but if it checks out, it might be useful:

I need my eyes (or maybe my head) examined. I thought this had been posted to the VB Q&A Forum. Duh.

Good point about drivers. Nothing is supported forever and sometimes generic device drivers just aren't good enough.

    jdc2000 thanks for the link.
I, and I assume yourself, are extra cautious about downloading unknown 3rd party anything. Even a lot of the 3rd party companies you don't know who or what they may be.

Naturally. I scan docs once or twice every couple years, but I get they want a revenue flow.
Never written a driver. Get some time this year, might dig into it.
Trick might shed some light on how difficult it is.

A quick search would seem to indicate that the software is usable and should not contain unwanted capabilities.

Note that if HP's goal is to get you to buy a new scanner, they are likely to fail using the tactic of failing to provide drivers for newer OS versions. If I had to buy a new scanner because of an OS update, it would be a different brand.

My new best friend is the high dollar Do All Machine at the Fed-X store.

When you scan a document you can send it to two devices for the price of one. (usb & email)
Wi-fi went down for five minutes, so I had to talk to my family....They seem like nice people.

    Scanners can be cranky.

I have one that honestly admits that it can't manage contrast, brightness, etc., another that lies (and then fails if you try to set values), and another that can do it all.

They all work on Windows 10 via WIA though. You just have to work around the liar.

Good to know. Never tried WIA with a scanner. Wrote bunch VB5/6 WIA years ago, don't recall if I messed with a scanner at that time. Will check.
