Re: Using DCR files in later editions of web browsers, like Edge and Firefox etc

The actual Shockwave player (not Flash player) that plays .dcr files has been abandoned by Adobe for a while. I think the final release came out in 2019. Current versions of browsers likely, by default, don't allow that plug-in to function because it is a security risk to do so.

That being said, there is the potential that settings exist in Firefox that can be configured in the about:config section that allow you to crank plug-in security down to the point that it will allow the Shockwave plug-in to still function. I don't know for sure, and I'm not interested in this enough to investigate for you.

So if you really want Shockwave to still function in FireFox, you'll have to do your own research to find out if such settings exist, and if so, how to configure them to allow plug-ins like this to still function.

    Good luck.

Re: Using DCR files in later editions of web browsers, like Edge and Firefox etc

I haven't tried this myself, and this might be more drastic than necessary in this case, but this *should* work:

    -In Firefox about:config
    -Set "extensions.blocklist.enabled" to False
-Close FireFox (make sure all instances of FireFox are closed)
-Locate the file "blocklist.xml" buried a few subfolders deep inside the folder where FireFox AppData is stored.
-Rename this file to something like "blocklist.xml.old"
-Install the ShockWave plug-in for FireFox
-Open FireFox and the plug-in should be functional.

Note that these changes reduce the security of FireFox by preventing it from automatically blocking plug-ins that have been deemed risky.

To undo these changes, simply rename the "blocklist.xml.old" file back to "blocklist.xml", and in "about:config", set "extensions.blocklist.enabled" back to True

    Good luck.
