I tend to go deep into thought very quickly. Depending on what I'm searching for, a lot of times my Google MO is to go to Google and then ponder what my search term will be. I guess my computer is old enough to where there's a couple seconds from the time the page loads to when the animation appears - long enough for me to go deep into thought staring "through" my monitor. When I'm in that state I tend to startle easily I guess.

I scared myself a bit just then.

How many times have you swatted your monitor when a message from DDay appeared?

Somehow that one hasn't ever gotten me. I don't think DDay's posts get me deep enough in thought.

Seeing as one of the top Google search suggestions for "Google leaf" is "Google leaf scared me", apparently I'm not alone, so I'm good with it.

I could have done without it. I already have enough email notifications and instant messaging notifications popping up in my peripheral vision. DDay's bug still gets me occasionally even after all these years.

I think if you do a search on "Google leaf scared me", then that phrase automatically becomes one of the top Google search suggestions for you, i.e. it will tend to parrot back to you things you've searched for in the past. It doesn't reflect on how many other people have searched for that, except for the first time.

e.g. I've never searched for it, so if I type in "google leaf",
    my list of suggestions are:
    google leaf
    google leaf identifier
    google leaf identification
    google leafly
    google leaf blower
    google leaf filter
    google leaf map
    google leaflet template
    google leaflet

Since you've search for it, it will always be near to the top of your list.

That assumes that I searched for "Google leaf scared me", which I had not.

Well, if you type in "google leaf" does it still show up in your list, and how far down is is, or has the "scared me" phrase already fallen off the popularity list? Just curious, as I assume the searches are weighted toward things we've searched for before.
For instance, if I typed in "google leaf s" nothing is displayed, but if I add a "c", "google leaf sc", the only suggested for me is "google maple leaf scuba". It is hard to conceive that searching for "google maple leaf scuba" is very popular, but just something some algorithm put together, i.e. people have searched for "google" "maple leaf" and "scuba", not necessarily simultaneously, but in conjunction with other terms, so the suggestion engine combined them as a multi-phrase search. Likewise, you may have searched for "google leaf" or "google" and "leaf" in the past, and used the phrase "scared me" in some other search context, so the engine combined those phrases in its suggestion for you.

What does it mean if I typed in Google Leaf and the first suggestion was "Single Women in Your Area"?
