[RESOLVED] $%%$$%# Personal.xlsb
As an experiment I created a Personal.xlsb file for myself to see what it was like using one. I wasn't happy with the results so I deleted it. After that it doesn't show up in my VBAProject window until I record a macro. How do I stop Excel from recreating it?

Re: $%%$$%# Personal.xlsb
Hello,
I think you cannot prevent that as it is the file in which Excel put the macros . https://bettersolutions.com/excel/ma...sonal-xlsb.htm

Re: $%%$$%# Personal.xlsb
If you have macros in Excel, that file will exist, although it is normally hidden.
That's not True. For 10+ years I recorded macros and they always recorded in the current workbook and Personal.xlsb was not in my VBAProject window.
What didn't work was clicking 'Hide' as suggested in the article caused both my current workbook and, supposedly, Personal.xlsb to be hidden. I say supposedly because Personal.xlsb was still in my VBAProject window.
I'll take a look at the other links.

Re: $%%$$%# Personal.xlsb
jdc2000 your other 3 links talk about deleting it but I already did that. After that it comes back when I record a macro. I'm guessing now that there's some registry setting I set to "On" when I created my first Personal.xlsb file.

Re: $%%$$%# Personal.xlsb
Try a System Restore to a point before you created the file.

Re: $%%$$%# Personal.xlsb
Did you check where you are recording your macro ? are you sure it is in the current workbook and not in the personal-xlsb file? that's maybe why it recreates it .

Impractical.
id you check where you are recording your macro ? are you sure it is in the current workbook and not in the personal-xlsb file?
Absolutely. As I said, I was recording macros (and looking for then) for over 10 years until I manually created my first Personal.xlsb file,

Re: $%%$$%# Personal.xlsb
Make sure no Excel processes are running.
In Regedit, go to:
HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\##.0\excel\options\binaryoptions
The ## will vary (14.0, 15.0, 16.0) depending on what version of Office you have.
If there is a value in the above key named "fglobalsheet_37_1" with a value of 1, try changing it to a 0.

Re: [RESOLVED] $%%$$%# Personal.xlsb
I believe I found the solution and it's kind of embarrassing but I think I owe it to the people who tried to help me and explain what the problem was.
As I mentioned above I've worked with Excel and recorded macros for over 10 years and never had a problem with Personal.xlsb popping up until i once purposely created that file. Prior to that when I recorded a macro I never looked in the 'Store macro in' dropdown and so the default was 'This workbook'. Once I created Personal.xlsb the default changed to 'Personal Macro Workbook' and I never noticed that either, so recording a macro would recreate the file. Once I deleted Personal.xlsb and recorded a macro making sure that I first chose 'This workbook', that became the default again.
