how save a pen drive?
i'm using the windows 7.
by some reason my pen drive isn't working:
1 - seems to work only on especific USB port;
2 - it's a generic usb;
3 - it's showed on My Computer a transparent icon drive(without volume name and no space information);
4 - on Disk Manager i can see the drive(with a letter too), but 'without suport);
5 - if the space isn't showed, i can't format the pen.
can anyone advice me for i repair the pen drive?

Re: how save a pen drive?
I have the same problem couple of times ago.
Try to make an image of it using DDRescue for example. Then you can try to recover your data usign more sophisticated algorithms (signature scanning - file carving) (PhotoRec) - it´s useful especially when the filesystem is not available like in your case I suppose (transparent icon, no drive letters, RAW partition, etc).
If recovery fails, your best bet is to re-flash your USB drive - WARNING! When done improperly, it may damage your pendrive forever, so please be careful! Remember - one mistake could be your last.
Hope it helps.

Re: how save a pen drive?
Do you have anything the resembles a Make and Model Number?
And or a link to the tech specs? LOL
Pretty sure you know you need to get past the Read Only part before you can do anything else.

Re: how save a pen drive?
"disco 1" means "disk 1", is where the pen is:
"só de leitura" means "read only"
i can't change it.. even on command line

Re: how save a pen drive?
Considering how cheap a new one that is both faster and far larger is today... is it worth bothering with this thing?
Aside from data recovery which sounds like a lost cause at this point, and maybe trying to determine what you may have done yourself to break it so you can avoid that in the future... why bother?
Is it a family heirloom? Cast in the shape of your grandfather's head, family pet, an actual pen, or something unique?

I consider this a bug in windows. I have the same problem. I formattted a iso image onto a flash drive, and i can not remove it. It's now permanently a boot disk.

Re: how save a pen drive?
Why did you need the volume number? It´s not important.
What device properties menu says about its capacity? Next, are you able to perform "chkdsk" from CMD? But try it without any repair attempts i.e. perform only pure check without /F /R switches.
What Device Manager says about its condition? Maybe it´s hardware failure, albeit it´s too soon to say something...
P.S. If it´s possible, could I request you for full printscreen? i.e. CMD - chkdsk + diskpart (not CMD window) + My Computer + properties of failing USB.
Thanks.

Re: how save a pen drive?
Please give me detailed answers to every question. Thanks.
First of all, do you have important data on it that needs to be rescued?
Have you activated showing of all items including hidden+systems in the explorer´s menu? Maybe it´s there, but it´s only invisible.
If not, have you performed checkdisk via CMD?
Next, are you able to make an drive image of it? For example with DDRescue.
Further, have you tried PhotoRec data recovery? But I am certainly sure that it will be useless so far. If it fails, try TestDisk data recovery (WARNNG! This tool is for experienced users, so please be careful!) and then partition repair.
If all of the above methods fails, your best bet is to re-flash your pendrive.

Re: how save a pen drive?
"Please give me detailed answers to every question. Thanks."
i'm sorry, i'm trying. but i need more questions for i give what you need.
"First of all, do you have important data on it that needs to be rescued?"
no... i don't need that files... just the pen.
i can get the files using the right program.
"Have you activated showing of all items including hidden+systems in the explorer´s menu? Maybe it´s there, but it´s only invisible.
If not, have you performed checkdisk via CMD?"
i can't because the pen partition don't have a letter... and i can't add it because of the 'read only' error.
"Next, are you able to make an drive image of it? For example with DDRescue."
i only can get the files using a rescue program that have the partition list.
"Further, have you tried PhotoRec data recovery? But I am certainly sure that it will be useless so far. If it fails, try TestDisk data recovery (WARNNG! This tool is for experienced users, so please be careful!) and then partition repair."
- PhotoRec i never used, but i used other programs for get the files.
- TestDisk data recovery: i never used these program for repair the partition... but i don't know if these program results, because of the 'read only' error.
"If all of the above methods fails, your best bet is to re-flash your pendrive."
i accept these, but i don't know what to do.. sorry. i can tell you the pen information, but i don't know how can i re-flash the pen:
Description: Dispositivo de armazenamento de massa USB(SanDisk Cruzer Edge)
Device Type: Mass Storage Device
using the ChipGenius_v4_00_0022 program, i get:
Protocal Version: USB 2.00
Current Speed: High Speed
Max Current: 200mA
USB Device ID: VID = 0781 PID = 556B
Serial Number: 2005405440163E9124FC
Device Vendor: SanDisk
Device Name: Cruzer Edge
Device Revision: 0126
Manufacturer: SanDisk
Product Model: Cruzer Edge
Product Revision: 1.26
Chip Part-Number: Unknown
even the chip part isn't found.. maybe was a virus or even a TV.... i don't know.. what i need is use the pen nothing more... the files i can recover if my friend need them
