Phil Taylor is the Worlds Greatest Athlete - Discuss !

Well it self explanatory really, Darts player Phil Taylor is obviously the greatest athlete in the world. His record speaks for itself.

"He has won 52 major tournaments, which includes 14 world championships, more than any other player in the history of the game. He has been ranked World Number One since June 2008 and has had eight different spells at Number One, a record fifty-six months overall. To date, he has won over 130 professional tournaments, over twice as many as anyone else in the history of the game."

    So does anyone disagree ?

Where can I buy a poster?
You can't, you would need to travel to the great city Stoke-On-Trent where you can get a piece of Pottery engraved with his likeness to put on your mantelpiece !

there is no way in hell that i would consider a dart player an athlete. a golfer, yes. a darter....(its prob not called that), but no.

especially considering when first prize for a lot of his tournaments was probably a pitcher of beer

I'm not even sure I'd put golfer in the category of an athlete. Can you strain a groin muscle?

If not, then whatever you are doing isn't a sport and therefore, you are not an athlete.

BTW: I didn't even know who Phil Taylor was until this thread.

    Darts? You must be kidding...

That is something you do half in the bag with your buddies...(and if you don't have any buddies then you do it totally gassed.)

    Code:
Can you strain a groin muscle?
It's entirely plausible to strain a groin muscle when playing golf. But that usually comes after you manage to sneak the beer cart girl off into the woods for a few minutes .

But why, why is a Darts Player any less an Athelete then a Golfer ?

Doesn't your life now feel enriched, now you know about the Great Phil Taylor ?

Chess I think is a great game. I used to play tournament chess and had a peak USCF rating of 1779 which made me a B+ player but I'll be happy to admit that chess is more of a game than a sport. If someone wants to say it's a sport that's ok with me but if they want to say it's not a sport that's ok with me too.

Incidentally there have been more books written on the game of chess than all other sports and games combined.
