    Cool DirectX 7, 8, or 9

In full screen mode, how can you bring a control to the front buffer? Or.. just on the screen? Such as a textbox and other controls I would like in my game that I am making to be able to talk amongst others who are also playing. What I am trying to say is, how can I get a textbox to appear on the bottom of the screen in full-screen mode?

I am using DX 9.0c but I'm sure it's generally the same for most versions. Thanks for any help whatsoever

Well, the only thing I could suggest would be to create your own form controls and render them like everything else. If you have used any engines which take up the whole screen, most of them offer custom GUI controls that do this kinda thing and get drawn to the screen.

Not a big fan of DirectX personally. OpenGL supports controls list textboxes, buttons, listboxes, etc.

Maybe a switch is in order?

    Thanks for the replies,

I'm quite new to DirectX. I understand many parts of it, but could you give me an example on implementing a custom GUI control to be drawn to the screen?

    C# .Net 2005 or VB .Net 2005

I am using C# but I don't mind translating VB .Net code because, afterall, that's what most people here use besides VB6.

    So.. about those controls?..

Bump. Someone help me please. I really need this. For one of my screens there is an option screen and I would like to be able to have user input such that they can change options and I would like to bring a control such as a textbox, button, track bar, or SOMETHING! Any ideas? I'll be googling unsuccessfully in the meantime =/

Not being a DirectX person myself, this is the closest I could find to what you want:
