    Resolved [RESOLVED] Opening a Folder

I am trying to make myself a convenience program that opens folders, programs or files when I enter keyboard shortcuts. I used the search feature and found how easy it is to open programs, but it doesn't work for folders or files.

How do I open a folder? Is there any easy way to open a file with its default program?

    Thanks in advance.

    VB Code:
    1. Private Declare Function ShellExecute Lib "shell32.dll" Alias "ShellExecuteA" (ByVal hwnd As Long, ByVal lpOperation As String, ByVal lpFile As String, ByVal lpParameters As String, ByVal lpDirectory As String, ByVal nShowCmd As Long) As Long
    2. Const SW_SHOWNORMAL = 1
    3.
    4. ShellExecute Me.hwnd, "Open", "C:\", 0&, "C:\", SW_SHOWNORMAL

You can also shellexecute explorer.exe with some commandline switches to customize your open folder. Like if you want the folder view pane to be displayed or not, etc.

Yes, just change "Open" to "Explore"

    VB Code:
    1. ShellExecute Me.hwnd, "Explore", "C:\", 0&, "C:\", SW_SHOWNORMAL

Before going on i'd suggest googling "ShellExecute".

Also use these switches for customization.

/e opens the window in Explore mode,
/n forces a new window (instead of reusing if that's the user's preference).
