Re: [2005] Generating PDF from any Other file

Do you know how much source code that would be? PDFs are propritary and in binary format. They're a pain to generate and parse (I started working on a class but gave up because it's easier to use an already created library).

I haven't see source code to do what you're asking for but there are plugins that can convert from one to the other. I would suggest using those otherwise you're either going to be looking for a long time or you'll have to roll your own which means you'll have to create a rendering engine for HTML so you know where elements go, then converting that into PDF, you'll have to roll your own Doc parser (and Microsoft doesn't have the details of the format for developers) which means lots of guessing, and translating that into a PDF. As for XML, well that is for organizing data, not creating layouts so you'd have to create some sort of layout for each XML document you wanted to convert.

I would check out iTextSharp. It's under the LGPL license so you can use it with your application. I believe you can even use it with a commercial application, as long as you are only referencing the library. If you copy the source code, then you have to release the source of your app as well otherwise you'd be breaking their license.

Please do not send PMs to users when you have questions. Most users won't answer you and questions are meant to be posted on the forums.

    Agreed.

Don't PM me as I've never used iTextSharp. I also never notice when I get a PM and sometimes don't reply for months
