    Error loading web form {Resolved}

    Hello

    I've created a web form. When I try to open it in a browser for testing I get the following error:

    Server Error in '/' Application.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Configuration Error
    Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

    Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

    Source Error:

    Line 23: "Forms", "Passport" and "None"
    Line 24: -->
    Line 25: <authentication mode="Windows" />
    Line 26:
    Line 27:

    Source File: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\WebApplication1\web.config Line: 25

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:1.1.4322.573; ASP.NET Version:1.1.4322.573

    I first created this on on this machine and have had to reinstall the OS since then. I copied the folder from the backup to the same folder location in the new installation.

    I looked at the controls and docs for IIS and I don't see anything on how to configure the virtual dir as an app.

    Any ideas?

    VS 2002/ .net 1.0

    Thanks

    David

    Re: Error loading web form

    go into IIS, and right click on the folder that the application sits in and select properties, and make click the "create application" button. After the application is created, it will change its text to "remove"

    it sounds like a problem with your project itself.... are you able to create a new blank asp.net app and run it?

    then it is something specific with that web app.. its probably a real simple fix, but finding it may be a pain.

    If the project is not too big you may just want to move the code over page by page to a new web application, testing along the way, and you will find where the issue is.

    Re: Error loading web form

    I tried to add the form from the other app but when I nav to the folder for the old app I can't see the forms. They just don't show in the dialog.

    I need to do some research on this. I don't understand the where fors of this virtual directory stuff.

    Glad you got it working

    I have had lots of headaches with ASP.NET apps, but generally by process of elimination, its easy enough to figure out what is going on.

    Re: Error loading web form {Resolved}

    to be honest, I never read a book on asp.net

    I knew a decent amount of original ASP, and an ASP.NET project got plopped in my lap, and I just kinda learned as I went. I don't consider myself an expert by any means... I personally am a win forms kinda guy

    All I can say, is make sure you get a book on the exact version of asp.net you plan to develop with, because the changes between versions has been pretty drastic (especially from 2003 to 2005)
