That's the best time to buy! It's the same thing with boats, they drop in price during the winter and go back up in the spring.

I may consider looking for a car, once again. Might not, too.

    Re: Post Race!

We are getting a bit of the atmospheric river that has been impacting California. Of course, by the time it gets to Idaho, it has been wrung out by passing over two mountain ranges, so there isn't quite as much moisture, but it helps. I think I'll forgo the skiing for a little while, as cross country in these conditions isn't terrific. It's a bit too warm. In fact, it might rain on the ski hill, which wouldn't be pleasant. Still, I'll be interested to see how the snowpack is doing by the end of this week.

I'm not yet convinced that I can put the hat away for the summer. Nor have I removed the skis from the car nor the studded tires, either.

You better keep your water wings handy. Here in north/central CA we got a big thunder, wind and rain today. I was worried my house was going to crush a witch when it landed. lol

I was talking about Gruff the other day with my wife about how he had sent me a copy of Pascal on floppy disc but that it had gotten damaged from the hurricane.

    I miss his old/goofy ass.

Got sad today when I read about another school shooting. Started thinking about our gun violence problems. A little later I read where six children were killed in a car wreck on Sunday. Man, life can be brutal.

Oddly enough, me too. There was a you tube clip of a racoon being a full on ninja. It made me laugh like a drain and I couldn't help thinking of Gruff.

    Roar like a run-off

I think it was Jeremy Clarkson who I first heard say "Laugh like a drain". It's one of those odd phrases that doesn't really stand up to close examination but somehow manages to be totally evocative.

(I do like chuckle like a gutter. That one flows well)

Chuckle like a gutter does sound right. I've known streams to laugh (rills, quite often), and drains to gurgle or slurp, but I don't think I've heard a drain laugh.

Had an interesting trip to Costco. Was pulling down a box that was above my head and I smacked me in the side of the face, didn't think much of it. Till I noticed I had blood dripping off my face. I hunted down one of the ladies serving food samples and got some paper towels. Was surprised at the amount of blood. Had to go around Costco holding paper towels to my face. Got a lot of interesting looks from people. lol

Costco? Isn't that where the greeters say "I love you" as you enter the store?

Why? It's Costco, after all. You can only get large quantities of anything there.

It was free with Prime at Amazon for a while. Now I don't see any free options.

Search for it through Google. On the right of the first page you should be able to see a list of places to stream it.

Idiocracy's a great movie. I don't know where you can stream it but but it's definitely worth a watch if you can find it.

I've only watched bits and pieces. Like I remember they put gatorade or something on the plants because they think they need electrolytes and the guy was like, no just use water.

I do rather like it. There are a couple pieces that I'm not sure about. They've got both brook and creek. As far as I know, the two are just regional terms for the same thing, which might be what the graphic is showing.

Rafters would want to have included "river right" and "river left". That's kind of in the graphic with "right bank" and "left bank".

DDay might want bayou on there, though.

We haven’t had a lot of rain this year. All of the fronts kept just north of us so places like St. Tammany and Assumption parishes got a ton of rain, but unfortunately we haven’t.

We have been getting LOTS of snow. Not like California, but still a whole lot....though only in the southern part of the state. Some of the most southern basins are up around 200% of normal, while the northernmost basin is still below average.

I'm glad I won't be hiking in California this year. Some of the areas I've gone through in the last few years are up over 250% of normal snowpack. It'll be interesting for the hikers on the PCT.

Meanwhile, I wanted to do a bike ride starting in about a month that would cross 6000 feet on a forested, un-plowed road. That seems like it will have to be delayed. They may well have as much as nine feet of snow on that pass at this time.

So is "check washing" fraud really a thing again? I remember it being a small panic in the years after the 2008-2009 economic fiasco but then it quieted down. Now I keep seeing it in the news again.

Is this really something crooks rediscover every so often, or just filler for periods slow on news?

Oh well, I got a deal on another pair of Uni-Ball 207s for well under $2/each so I'll be good until they dry out.

    Re: Post Race!

I just found out this morning that one of my High School friends committed suicide yesterday.

She is apart of a friend group that I don't really talk to anymore because, well I grew up and they didn't. I had several of those friends OD and die but she is the first one who took her life.

It is shocking and incredibly sad, but I have sort of become jaded to hearing tragic news from that group of friends which makes me feel awful.

    That's pretty sad.

It can be hard having friends drift out of your life even in the absence of tragedy. I've seen a lot of peer groups come and go over the decades.

I came from a large family with tons of cousins near my age as well. In the last decade the number of funerals I've attended is pretty grim if I think about it.
