    Happy Birthday!!!

    BASIC is 60yrs old. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024...uage-turns-60/

There has certainly been many many flavors of BASIC through the years and new ones are still popping up.

I was awoken by explosions and sirens, early this morning. Turns out, something either burned down or burned up pretty close to me. I went for a stroll this morning, and couldn't even figure out where the fire had been. I suspect it was a garden shed, but it was storing something like a gas canister or two, as one of the explosions rocked my house. I could see the flames, briefly, yet no houses look damaged, so it was eventful and relatively benign.

If it was that close, just be glad it didn't burn sideways. You might have ended up with firemen stomping through your beans.

They certainly did take some odd routes. At first, I thought they were going to use the hydrant at my house, but the truck was just taking the scenic route. What was kind of surprising was that the truck that drove past was the ladder truck, which would seem to be more suitable for fighting fires in multi-story buildings, rather than a single story residence. There aren't a whole lot of multi-story buildings in this city, so maybe they were just looking for something to do?

The thought did cross my mind. There are numerous, small, fire stations spread here and there through the city. That's a reasonable layout. However, each station has only one or two trucks. I don't know them all, certainly, but I believe that particular truck is stored a fair distance from this fire, whereas one of the stations was so close that some of the firemen could have (and may have) reached the fire faster on foot. It was almost across the street from the station, which had more suitable trucks.

So...why THAT truck, from so far away, and so dubiously suitable for fighting a residential fire? That was one of those trucks that is so long that I think it might have a rear driver as well as a front driver. The route they took may have been because they needed to, just to get that long truck through residential streets.

Yeah, the ideological toxicity is stifling. I'm just about down to an occasional post here about my trials and tribulations.

Those continue to be hilarious when I step back and look on from a distance. More ups and downs and I don't know where we are right now but we continue talking and sending cryptic messages by posting songs. Every time I think I'm out she comes right back.

    Re: Post Race!

Just saw an ad on Facebook for a T-Shirt.
The Print was in german, and i laughed my ass off.

    I'll try to translate it:

T-Shirt front: "I'm off drinking Whisky"
T-Shirt back: "Look to my coming on the first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the east."

I was seriously considering buying it, but i'd be hypocrite, since i stopped drinking 10 years ago (and Whisky was in fact my favorite drink)

Feel like a dart board tonight. Went to Dr. for problems with my side and back. He gave me a bunch of trigger point injections. Must of hit me @ 10 times with that needle. Hope they work, had some @ 2yrs ago for the same problem and they helped. That time I only got stuck @ 5 or 6 times.

Find a practitioner to heal your Sacral and Heart Chakras. Or maybe try a Reflexologist. Voodoo is voodoo, and those are probably cheaper than your co-pay at this "doctor's" office.

Seriously though... was the Doc injecting saline, botulism toxin, or a steroid or just dry needling you?

Mainly cortisone. Well worth the $5 copay. It's no big deal, me and cortisone are old friends.

So, a steroid. It can provide some relief. Some people who are working out also report doing better. It shouldn't have that impact, but...who knows. Placebo effects are still effects.

What impact? I didn't mention what the problem was. Do you think cortisone has no medical benefit? That would be an interesting view. Would go against every medical professional and medical article that I've ever encountered. And because of major injury in '77 that's a long list. Or is it just using it for trigger point injections that you think wouldn't help.

My neighbor (85F) gets cortisol shots about twice a year but she tells me they aren’t as effective as when she first got them.

Yeah, I've had the same experience with my shoulder. After a few years I wasn't seeing any benefit from the shots, so I stopped. I've heard the same from several people. I've always tried to keep them to a minimum because there can also be some nasty side effects.

btw - "(85F) ", I was wondering what 85 degrees Fahrenheit had to do with this. I finally figured it out. lol

No, that wasn't where I was going. I've never had a cortisone shot, as chance would have it, but I talked to somebody who had gotten one and found that, at his next session in the gym, he could lift more weight than he had. Cortisone is not supposed to increase strength, so it was more likely to have been a placebo effect, but....well, who knows?

    Regarding cortisone
i lost my hearing in one ear some 3 years ago (95%), and cortisone was the answer.

seems to be some kind of panacea….

    Yeah, it's weird that way.

I've had numerous issues where the doctor said essentially, "give it time...or give it cortisone."

Went from 50's and lots of rain to @ 90 all in the same week. We usually don't get much, if any, rain in May. This makes two years in a row we got plenty of rain. Thought for a while that Ca. was going to dry up and die.

In Germany it’s more or less the opposite.

Fun fact, If you spill a bowl of steaming hot Teriyaki sauce on your foot it burns the hell out of your foot. Don't think I'll be able to run in the Olympics this year. Last night took a sudden turn and not a good one.

Another fun fact. Getting Teriyaki sauce off the floor is hard. I've mopped three times and it's still sticky.

Follow me for more fun facts.

Try cleaning-up printer ink off your floor. About half a year ago I accidently overfilled the black ink tank to my Epson. I still have a stain on my wooden floor.

One kid readied himself near 1st base to tag him out. Funny the kid with the ball didn't think about tagging out the runner cutting across the field.

Did you mean the one that got beaned? Yeah, getting hit in the head with a ball usually hurts (I have no idea what kind of ball they were using), but his fall was pretty theatrical.

    Yeah, that fall was something.

It looks like they were using a Spalding tennis ball. It wouldn't have hurt him if it would've hit him on top of the head, but he got it in the face about eye level.

Did you noticed when the kid threw his bat at the adult behind him. Cracks me up that the kid skips 1st base after he was directed to run to it.
