Which makes Split some 2000 years old.....
Beautiful markets on the east (??) side of old-town (can't miss it when coming from the port)

Warning: Don't engage the "Players" who lurk around the port, bus- and train-station (which are next to each other).
If you want to take a taxi, ask beforehand, what the total costs are going to be (guesstimated of course)

    How i know that?
Nutshell: Split is in my "frontyard".... I "hail" from those shores (better said: my family has its roots there some 20 miles out of Split)

"Dubrovnik, Croatia" --> you do know, that a lot of scenes for "Game of Thrones" were filmed in Dubrovnik?
Thanks I'll rely that info to my daughter.

Don't forget to notify the TV-Stations then.
Would be a "blazing" Episode of Border Patrol USA....

I saw a mallard with two fuzzy ducklings today. The reason that's noteworthy is that they should all have finished with nesting a long time back. I think everything generally hatches out in May, perhaps even early May.

Those ducklings were certainly aging well.

Went to order some stuff from Amazon UK today. Found that the minimum order value for free delivery is now £35. Ouch! Not that long ago the minimum value for free delivery was £20, then it went to £25 and now £35. When I first started to use Amazon way back when there was no minimum value for free delivery. There're trying to get every user to sign up to Prime which apart from the video service gives free next day delivery. I don't mind waiting a few days for free delivery but IMO this is bordering on extortion - get Prime or else!

    Re: Post Race!

The National Anthem was sung a day ago at the Home Run Derby. I transcribed it exactly as performed:

    Ho, say can you see...
    By the Don's early lie,
    What so prow-hdly we hell...
    By the twilight's lass gleam-hmm,
Hoop bripe stripes whom bripes star...,
    Thru the perulous fife,
Oh the ramparts we wahs (asah),
    Were so gallant-ly stream-hmm,
    And the rockets red glare...
    The bombs bursting iyn air...
    Gave prue to the lice,
That our plag was still there......
Oh, say does dat Star-Spangled Banner-yeaht wehlyeeve...
Or the land of the free-he-e-e-e-eee,
    Hanah ho-ome of the prave?
I was gonna post a video of the performance, but I felt bad for the singer.

That song is a bit of a mess to begin with. We swiped the tune from an English drinking song, one of the notes can't be reached by the average human, and it commemorates a particularly stupid battle in a particularly stupid war. We have far better songs, written by Americans about broader, more national, subjects, and which can actually be sung by the average person.

On the other hand, the Star Spangled Banner has some epic failures. Perhaps a song that is easier to sing wouldn't have quite so many.

Meh... If I can pull it off with my sub-baritone voice it can't be that difficult. lol

Last winter I was invited to play both the US and Canadian national anthems on the chromatic harmonica at a hockey tournament and while Canada's may be easier to sing it's considerably more difficult on the chromatic harp. For what ever that's worth.

If you think about it, it's sort of scary how much of the world is controlled by software. I had a surgery a couple of years ago and the surgeon just controlled the robotic arms that did the surgery. He was @ 20ft away from the operating table.

Shaggy said he was going to be dodging fires. Well, if he is hiking in Northern CA he'll get his chance. There's a big one there called the Park Fire, it started @ 3miles from my sisters house. Luckily the wind blew it away from her house.

I mentioned earlier that my daughter was going to Greece on vacation. She left Sunday. On the flight a passenger had a stroke. My daughter and one of her friends are RN's so they helped, luckily there was also a doctor on the plan. But they had to turn the plane around and make an emergency landing in Iceland.

They finally got to Athens today. Hell of a way to start a vacation.

    Re: Post Race!

I wasn't hiking in northern California, but there were forty fires burning in southern Oregon. My feet turned into bloody ruins after a few days, and rather than pounding dirt into open wounds for six hours a day, I decided to do something more constructive: Ferry hikers around the fires north of Crater Lake.

I also took a day to climb to the top of Wizard Island. I've always been curious about that island, though it is a long dormant cone. I guess I wouldn't have hiked it had it not been long dormant....

This sort of a recurring theme on your hikes. I'm sure you know the best types of footgear to use. Wonder why this is such a problem. There are professions that require walking 6hrs a day. Though probably not many on rough terrain.

    Hope you enjoyed yourself anyway.

Yeah, my last three hikes all had this issue. I'm not sure what's going on. I thought my boots were a size too small last time, but this hike has dispelled that theory. One size larger, and the situation got worse.

When in doubt, I blame it on age.

I've had a lot of experience with people that get skin issues, mainly pressure sores (skin ulcers), and I've noticed that once they occur they easily reoccur. But it could be age, nothing about the body gets better with age.

Maybe it's time to take up swimming. lol

I hate Boolean logic. I almost always get my operands mixed up doing && instead of || or vice-versa.

I just spent 30 minutes wasting time on that exact issue until I realized I had my operands wrong.
