Problem with asp.net session object...
I've got myself into a bit of a predicament here...any ideas on what I can do would be great.
Basically I've designed a web application in asp.net & vb.net that is integrated with another windows application. This web app has two parts to it, an 'online' section and an 'offline' section, but they are both part of the same solution.
By 'online' I mean the user is accessing the system from home. 'Offline' is the user accessing it at work through the windows application that it is integrated with. The users online access different pages to those of the offline users.
I would like to use the session object for users in the online section, but not in the offline section. The reason for this is that I do not want the sessions of the offline users timing out. These should exist for as long as the browser is open. However, the users in the online section should timeout after a certain period of idle time (20 min).
I cannot use cookies for the offline users as these are lost between the web services that I use to integrate the web app and the windows app.
I have created mine own custom session object which holds the current user's information, but I do not know how to link this object to the browser instance that the user is currently on, so I can't identify him on the form.
I'm a bit lost here, is there any easier way to do this by working with the asp.net session object?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I'm confused...
you have a db that is accessed via a webservice interface?
Then you have a webapp and a fat app that independently communicate with the webservice, correct?

Both the app's have separate databases holding different information.
We have a dll interface that resides on the windows app server. This communicates to a web service on the same server. This web service then communicates to the web service on the web server hosting the web app.
The cookie is lost between these two web services...

Well, your design is obviously rather detailed, and trying to help you on a forum would take a few days...

Have a look at this under the heading
