True, it's not VB related, but the forums here still manage to provide that service for the time being.

I'm leaving chit chat when this thread dies and moving over to DF's place for the community feel. As far as I'm concerned, this place has ceased to be somewhere with an atmosphere and is now merely a resource.

    Sad, but true.
Actually I find that the actual resource forums have a far more community feel then Chit Chat. G&G has its regulars, along with C/C++. While these are not chat communities, they are communities notheless.

I think the idiocy above largely underscores my point.

    Zaei,

True, and that's why I'm retreating to those forums. I may take a more active role posting in them, I may not - it depends on how I feel in the near future...

I haven't been posting on these forums for very long, and certainly not on the CC forum, until relatively recently, but once I got started I kept coming back.

My wife asked me what the attraction was, and I said it had a kind of "community feel" to it, which was surprising and actually quite nice. I spend a lot of time in front of a PC, due to work and as a hobby, so it was nice to find somewhere where you could interact, and with people who are on your wavelength (well ... some of you anyway ).

When the forums went down, everyone migrated ... ummm .... elsewhere (no need to say really is there !).

I think that and the incredible amount of "religious" based postings recently has really hampered this forum, which is a shame, and I agree with Arbiter about the content of a lot of them.

The point you seem to be missing though is that its the people who make the forums, and if the effort gets put in then you have got the "forum of old", or basically somewhere interesting enuff to come back to.

The problem now is that there is more than one "popular" place and peoples loyalties are starting to be divided. I have been as big a culprit of that as any recently, so I know how easy it is to do.

Christ this must be the longest thread I have ever written

That does NOT constitutea religious thread by the way !

To sum up my drunken rambling ......don't give up on it .... put the effort in, you may be surprised how many others do the same

It's a joke in here. Recently these forums have been going steadily downhill, especially Chit Chat.

The maturity/intelligence/decency level of people on here has plummeted, and I no longer want any part of it.

I'm going to be retreating to the other forums, and if necessary I'll barricade myself in the Sentience threads to avoid the plankton that floats around in here. Should even that fail, I'll relocate.

It's sad, but that's the way it is.

It's grammatically incorrect to capitalise all letters of a word. You really should fix that.

Well, if you guys aren't happy with the topics in this forum, make it your business to start some decent ones.

I've only posted in this forum at the most, 10 times. But if I can help make this forum better, than I'd be more than happy to.

Give us some examples of what you guys talked about in the old days.

Geeez, this reminds me of the "Natalie Portman" thread in the Star Wars EpII forum...

Was a pretty sad story there too...

I admit that I've never taken a very active part in CC, I spend enough time in C/C++, but the few times I've been there were always amusing.

At least I know that things like the thread "'Sup with RSINGH" wouldn't have happened back then.

A short overview of the topics here pretty much shows me that Arbiter is, contrary to my hopes, correct.

I checked the threads today as people were saying there's still a sense of community and I thought I might have been hasty in posting this message.

I can see that I was not.

These forums have died a death and it's a shame to have witnessed the decline.

I fear things are unlikely to get better, but I'll check back periodically in case they do.

Everyone coming together to talk about one person isn't community?! What happened to the good ol' days when all the citizens met at the town square to talk about "the new neighbor." It's kind of the same thing. Gather 'round the water 'ole y'all!!

Can't complain unless you do something about it right? So I will add my two cents. I still love VBForums for the help I have and hopefully will continue to recieve. I also try to help where I can. I may not post to Chit Chat that often but do read quite a bit of it. Rather than bailing out why do we not try and bring it back together? I do realize that in the time that the server was down (or whatever it was) many people forund other places to go, as I did the same, but now that it is back, so am I. When I first started in VB in 98' I used to frequent a messageboard (cannot for the life of me remember where or what it was called) that died due to a guy flooding the board for days, I don't want to see another die.
I'm sure there's some profound point I was making but I seem to have forgotten.

I think it's important to note that I am neither a doctor or a
    salesman.

After that, I just want to say that even when things were "good"
    there were still idiots.

This past week it seems we have predominant idiot, but rest assured,
there will be more, and even if we check the cool new hangout,
you'll find more than one person that the majority wishes didn't know
how to turn on a computer. (yes, soft whispers, I know)

In any case, the General forum is still a great place to get VB help
and even if chit chat dies, this site is a valuable tool in making
myself look smarter than I am in front of my boss.

I think chit chat is dying, but it doesn't need to take the rest of the boards with it. I like to help people in the General VB forum. It makes me feel good to help people understand VB, and then one day, hopefully, they will be here like me helping people learn VB. By then, most likely, VB will be like a million years old and it won't make any sense anymore (.NET, I'm looking at you ), but they will still be teaching people....
