American Idol
Dont know a thing about it, but Iw as watching Hardball this evening on MSNBC, and Chris Matthews said something that cracked me up. The topic was that the winner of American Idol is invided to sing at the 9/11 comemoration ceremony, He said, essentially, This is simply displaying the crass commercialism the the secular terrorists are accusing us of. The terrorists have won!
I cracked up, because it is so true.

Why does that crack you up?
At least it's not Britney Spears or Shakira, or another overhyped, underpowered, slut/"sing"er.
I've been watching the show-- and many of these singers have some real talent unlike the "pop stars" that usually frequent the Top 40. They can sing like hell...seriously, most of the people up there, and the winner, all have pretty awesome voices.
And I'm glad that whoever won, won (I won't say the name in case some west-coasters are reading).

Yeah, he's just lovely...
As a matter of fact, he's right about what he says 90% of the time, it's just the way he says it that gets to some people.
BTW, I have no idea how they chose the Pop Idol in Great Britain...he wasn't that spectacular IMO.

What, Will "shirt-lifter" Young
Yeah, he's a bit bollocks, actually, he's a lot bollocks. He also keeps getting "shown up" by the second-place dude, who has a speech impediment would you believe.
Right couple of ******s if you ask me. Rik "I'm 6 foot wide" Waller should have won, that would have been amusing at least.

If you think that slut is even in the same league as Kelly Clarkson, you need help...
Tamyra should NOT have been voted off. Kelly is a true singer though

It has nothing to do with how well they may or may not sing.
I also thought it was pretty funny that more people will vote on that show then they will in the actual presedential election.

How's that?
The final got 15 million votes tonight, and more than 15 million people voted for president...besides, it's not uncommon for one person to vote 100 times (they allow an unlimited amount of votes per person...as many as you can fit in a 2 hour window )

Actually, Shakira is a pretty good singer, I reckon. And she's hardly a popstar - she's been around for many a long year before you heard of her. She got popular because she started singing in English.

Certainly. They accuse us of only trying to get as wealthy as possible, in any way we can. If this means exploiting people, of course we will.
Besides, commercialism doesnt (neccesarily) mean making commercials =).
The terrorists really have won, you know. The objective of terrorism (especially the kind that has been taking place this last year) is to force people to change thier way of life. When people start buying gas masks, and food testers, and mail irradiation devices to use in the home, we have been forced to change our way of life.

I disagree.
Nobody I know personally has significantly changed their way of life.
Getting on an airplane these days is a bit more of a hassle, but
all in all, my life hasn't changed. I do think they have gotten our attention,
and they certainly did some damage in a lot of ways,
but to say that they've "won"? I don't think so.
Also, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm planning on taking
a vacation.. by plane! St. Maarten sandy beaches are calling my name.
Put an umbrella in that drink, I'm on vacation!

Society as a whole is QUITE different then it was on
9/10/2001
OR
10/9/2001
OR
1/1/2001.
Random searches in the airport, people opening mail as carefully as possible, this new "Homeland Security" hogwash... The terrorists have changed our lives. Thier objectives have been met, and in any game I have ever played, thats called winning.

I dunno.
the airport screenings are different.
but I still rip open all my mail with my teeth.
I still travel airlines for business,
I go to work every day via the same car, same road,
I buy my foods at the same market, and drink water straight from the tap....
While I agree that they certainly woke us up a bit, our lives are not
nearly as interrupted as say, the isreales, where the terrorists
are their next door neighbors.
Certainly the attack affected society, but to say that it has significantly changed? I still disagree.
I think that the terrorists certainly changed the lives of innocent
people from the middle East living in the US..

My life hasnt changed at all, either, due to the thing, but You also cannot say that society has not changed either. Yes, Isreal has had a LOT more attacks then we have, and the reactions there have been a LOT more distinct, but we here have still changed. Im Ceartinaly not going to say that EVERY person here has had thier lives distinctly changed, but lives HAVE changed.
