    Re: Extending VB6

Weird thing. It still seems to work fine here.
  2. Re: The $5,000 electric car-5G battle vs. new energy vehicle battle

Sounds like a very under-engineered product. Does it use the same sort of "tinsel-wire, thin copper sputtering over a ribbon of aluminum" we see in so many low-end Chinese consumer products like USB...

    Re: WITH PRINTER...image

You told it to paint the picture at coordinates (0, 0) so it is doing as requested.

Centering is pretty easy. Use an X-offset value that is 0.5 * (DestWidth - PictureWidth).
  4. Re: SET a new font in a single line of listbox

I guess I need new glasses. I could have sworn it said TextBox. Clearly I was blind.

ListBox is another story and we just discussed that the other day. Owner-drawn control.
  5. Re: [RESOLVED] Corona virus, China major city lockdowns, etc.

You won't hear me defending their malicious policies.
  6. Re: [RESOLVED] Corona virus, China major city lockdowns, etc.

Don't get too smug. Ohio ranks 10th in COVID deaths per capita.

States ranked by COVID-19 death rates: Oct. 14
  7. Re: SET a new font in a single line of listbox

No, Edit controls use a single font. They don't have markup so nothing else would be possible.

You want a RichEdit control like the one inside the RichTextBox instead.
  8. Re: Populating an ADODB.Recordset from array without looping ?

Yeah, this doesn't exist because there wasn't any need for it. Very early Microsoft considered a "PutRows()" method and dropped it because there weren't any use cases for it.

    Create the data as a...
  9. Re: Automatically define column width of MsFlexGrid

Printing forms is almost never a good idea.

Save yourself a ton a grief: use a DataReport for tabular reporting. You can always report based on a fabricated Recordset if you don't have a database...
  10. Re: VB shortcut to open the installed software

Create a shortcut to run your program. Use Explorer to examine its Properties, where you can assign a shortcut key combo to invoke the shortcut and thus your program.

You can't just steal "M" so...

    Re: Extending VB6

My suspicion is that Microsoft didn't want the support cost associated with high level languages compiling to native code. This was probably doubly true for Basic in particular, since it tends to...

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

Darn, I just realized I don't have that Bush album (CD) in my car. Looks like I haven't ever ripped it. Seems like a weird omission, I'll have to see if somebody borrowed it and never returned it.
  13. Re: [RESOLVED] Corona virus, China major city lockdowns, etc.

Most stores here in Michigan still require masks unless fully vaccinated, but so far nobody is checking for proof on entry.

It's all a bit dicey with Delta ramping up here. I try to go shopping...

Few seem to remember The Great Schnozzola any more.

  15. Re: what name of winapi used in convert number to string ?

The API call buys you nothing... unless you need to spoof your locale.
  16. Re: [RESOLVED] Corona virus, China major city lockdowns, etc.

Actually a lot of the US has already come a good way down the "Delta wave" curve, though not enough to relax cautionary efforts yet. Certainly not where I am, since we are still crawling the Delta...
  17. Re: [RESOLVED] Corona virus, China major city lockdowns, etc.

Infection rates are still going up here as Delta spreads. Adjacent Ohio is on the way down, and currently our rates are equal.

It still looks like a "wildfire spread" pattern to me. And I still...
  18. Re: The $5,000 electric car-5G battle vs. new energy vehicle battle

Perhaps he was describing a fuel source to charge electric cars in the midst of the coal shortage?
  19. Re: [RESOLVED] Corona virus, China major city lockdowns, etc.

That's nothing. I got banned once for using the perfectly good word "ignorant" in context.

Re: Windows 11 is available to some now

I admit that I am going by "reviews" of 11, and they might well be overstating things or even making crap up.

But it isn't available to me now anyway, and I see no problems with waiting until...

Re: Windows 11 is available to some now

I'm not sure why this rearranging of the deck chairs was necessary. Moving and hiding a lot of settings and options yet again is frustrating. But I suppose Microsoft needed to do its part to sell...
  24. Re: The $5,000 electric car-5G battle vs. new energy vehicle battle

That's a good point. When we put aerodynamics first we got things like 1999 Insight and before that General Motors EV1.

Both were more "radical" looking than the early Prius, which had a rocky...
  25. Re: [RESOLVED] Delete character from access database

It is quicker and less clunky to use an UPDATE query:

    .Open CONN
    .Execute "UPDATE [Items] " _
    & "SET [TextFld] = MID$([TextFld],2),...

Re: Image stretching vs Iamge quality.

As far as I can tell there are two issues.

    The first:

When recent versions of Windows see a display with abnormally high resolution they choose a high DPI setting in order to make displayed...

Re: Image stretching vs Iamge quality.

Scaling images up almost always produces blocky and jagged results. This is why icon resources contain several sizes of images for your program to pick from at runtime.

But you can only supply a...
  31. Re: [RESOLVED] Corona virus, China major city lockdowns, etc.

Our vaccination levels aren't that bad, but the rest of it fits.

I've watched mask wearing drop from maybe 95% compliance down to very low levels right now. And that despite the fact that here we...

    Re: IDE Problem

VB6.EXE is not DPI Aware, so just slapping on a manifest declaring that it is would be silly and most likely make matters worse. Often the results are programs that were hacked and tweaked to sort...
  33. Re: The $5,000 electric car-5G battle vs. new energy vehicle battle

Poor guy. Such a rude awakening for him:

  36. Re: The $5,000 electric car-5G battle vs. new energy vehicle battle

Considering the current large scale blackouts due to coal shortages, maybe 6 hours riding the charging bike for every 30 minutes of driving?
  37. Re: [RESOLVED] Corona virus, China major city lockdowns, etc.

I'm not sure there is much more ground to be gained in getting people vaccinated. Disappointing, yes, but here we are. The same goes for other things like masking, distancing, hand washing, and...
  38. Re: [RESOLVED] Corona virus, China major city lockdowns, etc.

  39. Re: [RESOLVED] Corona virus, China major city lockdowns, etc.

  40. Re: [RESOLVED] Corona virus, China major city lockdowns, etc.

Between lockdowns (full or partial) and supply-chain problems I'm still looking at shelf-stable food supplies. Sometimes you need a little novelty though.

What do you think about this one?
