Well.....
I just re-installed the API-Guide v3.7 software from ALLAPI and this time it ran fine with no errors. And everything which was on the site is in there, examples and all including the dot...

".....PS: Do you have a DeLorean?"
Yeah but its missing the Flux Capacitor and besides I can't afford the Plutonium :(.
mentalis.org is where I've been going of course but I do remember when it...
-
Many of us have used the resources of ALLAPI over the years. Site masters have had a note up on the API list page for many years saying that the site was no longer updated but would remain for...

To clarify, I wasn't concerned much that AI would replace traditional code writing as I'm sure that that will never completely happen but rather I'm concerned about the future of user base & demand...
-
I just watched part of a video which was discussing the progression of Artificial Intelligence and many of its possibilities. So afterward I had to ask myself: What's the point of my (and others?)...
-
I would but only a one-time license fee just as I did when I bought VS6 Pro retail at Staples for around $800 USD those many years ago. I understand the business model but I hate monthly software...

Yup we're still here :). VB6 forever!!!
-
Best to do as fafalone says. An array of pictureboxes can quickly consume your memory budget.....
-
There are still freeware & paid 3rd party controls available for Visual Basic 6 but you have to look a bit deeper online to find them. Examples include items available from CodeJock, GrapeCity, etc....
-
Kind of a neat idea actually.....I want to change mine so that it shows cookies & milk every time that I load VB6 :).
-
Olaf, is there a way to stop this excess memory usage with GDI+?. Even with proper disposal of resources, the problem still persists.....
-
Roger that, now I understand :).
-
Thanks Olaf, I ran the above code using RC6 and I can see the memory advantages etc. along with the simplicity of it vs my GDI+ version which is always nice. Definitely will use RC6 for some things...
-
Thanks guys, I can now see some of the advantages of Cairo. I'll likely use RC6 in some upcoming applications and stick with GDI+ for others. Best of both worlds I suppose.....
-
Ah OK, the light is dawning :).
But why is it so hard to manage GDI+ handles? I've always done due cleanup and never had issues with it. Like so:
'- Cleanup and free resources
If tPath...

So I've looked into Cairo and I've done some nice work with the AMAZING RC5 & RC6(Thank you Olaf, RC6 really is incredible). I've done some research including an hour or so of reading various things...

Eduardo, thank you!
As it happens, I need to document an ActiveX component which has many properties, methods, and events. I downloaded and right away ran the release version of your documenter,...

This is wonderful indeed (Thank you for your hard work!) but way too complicated for my taste. I bought the Codejock version a few years ago and used it in a couple of applications and it looked very...

That we know of. Users of mine and most other software famous or otherwise have no idea what language it is written in and don't care in the least so long as it works.....
-
LOL I was joking. I don't think it will ever happen. And likely the newest versions would be like everything else these days - too feature rich and too complicated and too bloated and trying too hard...

Lots of vb6 screen saver examples here:

Nah. Don't try too hard to replace vb6. Just pour on more pressure on Microsoft to do it :).
-
I doubt that you will see an open-source replacement for VB6 anytime soon, if ever. TwinBasic is the current closest I think, but is not open source.
I'm not really a fan of open-source for such...

Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm not going to run off and leave this unresolved. I work in the fitness industry by day and its been crazy busy lately so I haven't gotten back to working on...
-
That's about as cool as it gets for VB6 :). And if you had the compiled version you'd likely never know or care about the underlying programming language unless you're nerds like us!
EDIT: I just...

I can't post the whole thing but maybe I can break out some of the relevant code if needed. Drawing is directly to the work area (picturebox) via the GdipDrawPath call in each instance of the drawing...
-
Good discussion here and I can see both sides of this fence. To clarify my original post a bit - I wrote this vector program several years ago for a small group of local people for various uses. Uses...
-
Updated to include simple wavy lines with fill.
-
Yeah I actually thought of that too after I got all excited :(. I'm still working to find a solution.....
-
Thanks baka! I think that what you just said could be what I've been trying to see - each object can have its own memoryDC which writes to a working-area sized memDC which finally renders to the...
-
That's actually a pretty cool way to do that :).
-
Thanks I'll look closer at D2D too and I've read a bit about its cool capabilities. But really I should clarify what I'm after - I just need to understand the concept of creating layers as is done in...
-
Thought of that but want to stick to pure GDI+ API as the program is portable....and also would need a major rewrite :(.
-
Hi everyone!
So I'm having trouble visualizing ('scuse the pun) this. In my vector graphics program I use GDI+ to draw and edit shapes etc. and it all works great. I have the ability to edit each...
-
Exactly. Couldn't have said it better.....

Famous apps in VB6? I'm sure that ther are some which we aren't aware of. It really doesn't matter to the end user which language a given application is written in. They are interested in...
-
I had a need for this and noticed that there isn't much information about how to fill a GDI+ path with an image which is scaled or stretched to fit said path. Plenty of simple ways to fill a path...
