    Re: Encrypt/Decrypt

The problem with relying on ANSI is that the "encrypted" cipher data will not travel well between locales. It's the same problem as with plain text, just amplified by the cipher's use of more bit...

    Re: Encrypt/Decrypt

I'm not sure that a ROT111 cipher is particularly smart, but it will be done more easily by transcoding from Unicode to UTF-8.

This can be done via simple API calls, or by using the ADO Stream...

Most viewers never twig to the fact that this is a rendition of Radiohead's "Creep." It gets used throughout the series as subtextual ambience.

The opportunity to curb this was squandered a long time ago. International travel should have been banned and urban centers ringed in by blowing up airports, highways, rail, and bridges. Instead we...
  8. Re: Create xml file in vb6.0 like the following

  9. Re: Create xml file in vb6.0 like the following

Why not just write the stuff as ANSI text and call it good enough? If you must create UTF-8 then use an ADO.Stream object. This looks like some simple-minded XML. Why use the high-overhead...

Re: Corona virus, China major city lockdowns, etc.

I'm not sure what to think about that. It seems lke you could make the case either way, but if you have decent immunity shouldn't your system zap the new intrustion rather quickly and mildly?
  16. Re: How do I add combobox items more quickly?

I went back once more and replaced the SendMessageA() by SendMessageW() calls and passed in Unicode text.

Slightly slower letting the conversion happen in the control itself, but still not bad.

    Private Const CB_INSERTSTRING As Long = &H14A&

Ideally you'd use a proper parameter query instead of cobbled together "dynamically" hard-coded SQL as you're doing.

But barring that why wouldn't you just use:
