    Re: Reading Proficiency and Programming

Proper code granularity isn't a simple judgement. Too granular and you suffer from procedure call overhead, too monolithic and you lose flexibility, comprehensibility, and maintainability.

    Some...

No. You are probably used to OLE_COLOR, particularly its COLORREF subset, i.e. 00BBGGRR. ARGB looks more like AARRGGBB.

That would be a problem, not something in your favor.

Re: VB6 Compiler Stopped Working ...

Do these programs contain an embedded manifest that marks them as "non-legacy" code via a <trustInfo/> node?

Even if they do, it is good practice to avoid keywords that trigger legacy setup progam...

Note that to do this with decent performance requires that you obtain the original redist version of WiaAut.dll and use an activation context to select that copy.

You have to make use of the ARGB Filter in oder to assign to the alpha channel:

  11. Re: (VB6) Get the main or prevalent color tone of a picture

What is the "main" color? It can't be the average color based on just looking at those samples.

"Most common color" (histogram) gets dicey when JPEGs and photos in general are used.

    I'm not...

Re: Corona virus, China major city lockdowns, etc.

The Omicron variant seems to be targeting younger people more, at least based on the experience to date in South Africa. People in their 20s and 30s.

So they are sorta kinda isolating South Africa. Too little, too late. The UK ("Crossroads of COVID") is already crawling with Omicron.

  18. Re: VB6 IDE under Windows 11 - Serial Comm no workie

Serial I/O has nothing to do with firewalls or routable networks unless you have layered software on top of it. And even then it would only apply to those added software layers. For example the old...

    Re: Encrypt/Decrypt

I'm not sure that a ROT111 cipher is particularly smart, but it will be done more easily by transcoding from Unicode to UTF-8.

  27. Re: Create xml file in vb6.0 like the following

I'm not sure what to think about that. It seems lke you could make the case either way, but if you have decent immunity shouldn't your system zap the new intrustion rather quickly and mildly?
  34. Re: How do I add combobox items more quickly?

I went back once more and replaced the SendMessageA() by SendMessageW() calls and passed in Unicode text.

Slightly slower letting the conversion happen in the control itself, but still not bad.
