    Re: flippin bits

It might be a better practice to be explicit with the datatypes like this:-

    Dim b As Byte

    b = CByte(&HFF& And -1&)

I can't remember the exact circumstances but it is possible...

You use the Win32 API to get that information:-

  5. Re: RC6 - New encrypt option for Sqlite DB: SqlCipher

Oh I'm challenging this for the mere fact that none of us on the .Net side have never had any problems using COM libraries in .Net. The most common use case you see is Office Interop(Word, Excel...
  6. Re: Why is VB.Net/C#/XAML + VS2019 is better than VB6? Here's why.....

Oh I'm well aware of that. A lifetime ago I first discovered the concept of multi-threading when I came across an online document about CreateThread. I remember very clearly wondering if VB6(or...
  7. Re: RC6 - New encrypt option for Sqlite DB: SqlCipher

I was just about to suggest that there is nothing stopping him from just using your library in .Net until a suitable .Net alternative can be found but I decided to test this before I made this...

  13. Re: Is it possible to get an example of how to drag an image from ?

This difference between the two sub-forums is very noticeable. The VB6 side most of time has the more interesting questions because of this. It's not that .Net doesn't have skilled membership among...
  14. Re: Is it possible to get an example of how to drag an image from ?

I see the infection has spread to the VB6 side of the forums. Half the threads in the VB.Net section starts with jmcilhinney asking some poor soul to explain his problem better because Google...

Re: How soon may I have to give up VB.net (and VB6)?

I appreciate the vote of confidence but language development is one of my weaker areas. There's a whole lot of science behind that like lexical analysis, abstract syntax trees, code generation,...
  19. Re: Why is VB.Net/C#/XAML + VS2019 is better than VB6? Here's why.....

I mentioned it as a must-have discussion for the development of TwinBASIC here. Async/Await is a must if you want your language to be competitive in 2021. It is probably the best asynchronous pattern...

Re: HexBox Control? View .bin file as ushort?

Like I said, you're probably going to have to design this Control yourself. To be clear, you want to be able to edit this array of UShorts using some kind of GUI, right?

    Re: TwinBasic

A lot of TwinBASIC features, both suggested and implemented, are inspired by VB.Net. Generics even use the exact same syntax.

COM Interop is pretty solid. I don't anticipate any problems as long as you're careful not to do anything too wild. I've helped a number of people over the years pass all kinds of things from .Net...

Asynchronous methods are a compiler feature. You can't do this in VB6 without a new compiler.

Re: HexBox Control? View .bin file as ushort?

Oh so what you're actually saying is that your byte stream is simply an array of UShorts. Well this is a very specific format. Most likely you're going to have to roll your own editor for this.

What would be the point of that? Looking at a byte stream as a series of UShorts is not the same thing a viewing it in hexadecimal. The hexadecimal view tells you what every single byte is. Looking...
