  1. Re: How soon may I have to give up VB.net (and VB6)?

I love javascript too. I feel it is akin to BASIC in some ways, as a tool you can hack some code together, it works for me.
  2. Re: How soon may I have to give up VB.net (and VB6)?

I don't agree with that. In fact I fundamentally disagree. This may be correct approach for commercially-led programming. For many of us though, programming decisions are not always based upon...
  3. Re: Do we all have a Magnus Opus inside us?

Well, there is no place for it in a technical non political thread like this one!
  4. Re: Do we all have a Magnus Opus inside us?

I very much doubt it unless that Tandy was a business-type PC compatible you were running with MS-DOS. Regardless, QB64 would be a great target for a port as all the traditional BASIC keywords,...
  5. Re: Do we all have a Magnus Opus inside us?

I am normally a stickler for this sort of thing but the noun became the familiar name for such items and after fifty years I think it can be accepted, floppies it is.
  6. Re: Do we all have a Magnus Opus inside us?

    Isn't it floppies ? :)

    I hope they still operate!
  7. Re: Do we all have a Magnus Opus inside us?

QB64 has the old QB IDE, the language is 100% compatible, it does not have the exact same process for building a binary, I believe it is a transpiler, your QB code is translated to C and then...
  8. Re: Do we all have a Magnus Opus inside us?

Easy, peasy! Ebay is your friend. These items are not the throw away items they once were, so be prepared to pay a reasonable amount for a working example. The adapter will probably be the cheaper...
  9. Re: [RESOLVED] Why can't Enum of VB6 be a string?

    - and yet you decided to pick up the baton and run with it. We had gently dealt with him so there is no need to shout at him over the top of your car whilst being restrained by the cops (as that is...
  10. Re: VB6 Resource Editor Missing from Add-Ons

I have had that with an installation on Win10 but not ever with Win 7 if that helps at all...
  11. Re: Do we all have a Magnus Opus inside us?

Well, if you can put that all to bed by doing so then it would seem a beneficial thing to do, for both you and for others.
  12. Re: Do we all have a Magnus Opus inside us?

Possibly, you are insane. :) I say possibly but I do have some evidence and some of it is even in your own words.
The trouble with coding, what could possibly be done with it, the potential of the...
  13. Re: The previous system shutdown ... was unexpected

I wish you had said that in the first place... That would have saved a lot of time.

Please read a guide on how to raise a good bug report and do what it says from now on.

  15. Re: Do we all have a Magnus Opus inside us?

People called "The Romanes" they go the house.
  16. Re: Do we all have a Magnus Opus inside us?

Yes you are quite right. I did take Latin for two years and so there is no excuse for my mistake.
  17. Re: Why is VB.Net/C#/XAML + VS2019 is better than VB6? Here's why.....

That DCL is so cosy and familiar, BASIC-like and is akin to welcome doormat on coming home. I could code in DCL using EDT and feel happy. There are commercial tools that will replicated the VMS...
  18. Do we all have a Magnus Opus inside us?

I have a project that I once was inspired to create, it was the equivalent of an early version of World of Tanks and I started coding it back in the late 1980s. I created the backbone and structures...
  19. Re: Why is VB.Net/C#/XAML + VS2019 is better than VB6? Here's why.....

Don't turn me on with your lexicals...
  20. Re: Why is VB.Net/C#/XAML + VS2019 is better than VB6? Here's why.....

I can still edit using the EDT editor keypad with my eyes closed.

I have a 32 bit Windows binary of the EDT editor, if you want a copy...
  21. Re: The previous system shutdown ... was unexpected

What I have described above (3) has happened to me regularly. You'll find methods of resolving this, most of them will be temporary fixes but they can also help diagnose. I have a small combination...
  22. Re: [RESOLVED] Why can't Enum of VB6 be a string?

Pleased that you are doing so.I would release them individually as polyfills for users to pick up as they require. A much more simple task than integrating here and there. You could create a thread...
  23. Re: [RESOLVED] Why can't Enum of VB6 be a string?

SDO - Niya can be a **** and he recognises this, just can't help himself. He isn't even here to wind you up. He can also be helpful and fun. There are others here that you don't like. However, YOU...
  24. Re: Why is VB.Net/C#/XAML + VS2019 is better than VB6? Here's why.....

I really do miss version numbers on files.
  25. Re: Why is VB.Net/C#/XAML + VS2019 is better than VB6? Here's why.....

This thread is now a better thread than it was, so much more positive, so much more relaxed and Digital.
  26. Re: The previous system shutdown ... was unexpected

If it isn't a power problem and it may be that, and it isn't an overheating issue then it could be a component failure. You may have a component that is causing a short or conversely a break in a...
  27. Re: [RESOLVED] VB6: Question - Message Queue Method

At most, I will have two or three messages queueing at any time. Messages come frequently but they are almost always synchronous. Only in one case will they be asynchronous, so this is just to check...
  28. Re: [RESOLVED] Why can't Enum of VB6 be a string?

It might be wise to create a series of VB6 polyfills (as they are wont to do in the .js world) to replicate intrinsic .js functionality in VB6, meaning you can use what ever .js/VB syntax you want in...
  29. Re: Why is VB.Net/C#/XAML + VS2019 is better than VB6? Here's why.....

Pick was an amazing operating system *** database that was advanced for its day. A lot of what it did carried over to other later o/s.
The file system for VMS was record-orientated so that it...

  31. Re: Getting the ball rolling. Which VB6 projects are you working on?

Still working on my chat tool. Progress infinitesimally slow compared to what I could do with a fair wind at my back. A mother with serious dementia is not a load I'd wish on anyone. VB6 is my...
  32. Re: VB6: Question - Message Queue Method

Thankyou for your help chaps. In the end I used a VB6 collection similar to the manner described above.
  33. Re: Why is VB.Net/C#/XAML + VS2019 is better than VB6? Here's why.....

All my DCL scripts (some quite huge) used GOSUB and RETURN.

At that time, DCL could not handle sub routines other than GOSUBs. They look very familiar, I do not feel like using them again.
  34. Re: Why is VB.Net/C#/XAML + VS2019 is better than VB6? Here's why.....

Who is talking about going back to the 90s?
This thread is currently about the 8 bit 80s.
  35. Re: Why is VB.Net/C#/XAML + VS2019 is better than VB6? Here's why.....

We all did that. I did it on every PC on display in our WH Smiths store.

At that time no-one in the UK would have understood what that phrase meant. It hadn't made it over the ocean at that...

  37. Re: What song are you listening to right now?

This one is for the Dads...oh yes, we are all dads here.

I'm always smiling by the end.

  39. Re: VB6 QUESTION: Non-Modal message box in its own thread

So, I really might need a small binary with no visible form and just a modal pop up that has a line of text and a OK button.

I could call that with a final shellExecute and then unload the main...
  40. Re: Why is VB.Net/C#/XAML + VS2019 is better than VB6? Here's why.....

Plenty encountered. Most Unixers at that time were anti-Vaxers: Xenix, Solaris, HP-UX, System 36 were the competitors. In those days it was all about MIPS and VUPS and what you could achieve in a...
