Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
Each time I reply to a thread now, it seems like the forum automatically tries to submit my reply twice. My reply is submitted successfully but I am also taken to the page that says that I have to wait a period before submitting again. I'm using Edge on the latest stable Win10 version.

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
test
EDIT: I've reported the issue but Can NOT recreate it... I just switched from Chrome to Edge and don't get a dupe post in either browser.
-
Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
I'll take a screenshot next time it happens but, even if you can see it, I guess you still can't really diagnose it if you can't replicate it. I'll try other browsers too and see if they behave the same way.
One extra point is that I did make two posts to one particular thread in fairly quick succession and the issue appeared when submitting the first but not the second. I'll play around in the Forum Test Area and see if I can come up with any extra information.
-
Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
I also just realised that it didn't happen when making the post above either. I has happened when posting to VB.NET threads, so I wonder whether it may be forum dependent. Seems odd but stranger things have happened. Anyway, I'll update here if I have more information either way.

OK, it did just happen to me on this post too.

Perhaps because you replied with quote.

Yes, it happened. It doubled posted when I quoted jmc's post. (so a test case of 1).

Yep, that tried to double post. It seems like that might then be the issue, although I feel like it's happened more times than I would have thought that I'd been quoting another post. Maybe not. I'll pay attention to that in future posts.
-
Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
Been getting the same issue too. Latest Chrome - Version 67.0.3396.99 (Official Build) (64-bit) - on a Mac.
Haven't tried on my Win10 at home though.

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
Trying from the Advance Reply form this time... all previous attempts were from the quick reply.
-tg
EDIT - OK, so it's the Quick Reply that seems to result in the double post attempt, while using the Advance Reply goes through once cleanly.
-
Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
I did a quick reply fine (as least a few times), but have also got the double post a number of times. In addition to the above where it posted fine with one Quick Reply, and doubled the second time when trying with a quote, I just got a double attempt on another post where I didn't quote, but I did include a link.
-
Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
I have been having the same issue as jmc detailed in post #1, using Win 7 and IE11.
This is a test to see if it is still happening.
Edit:
I did NOT get a double post this time, but I DID get the message about having to wait 30 seconds between posts, so that would seem to indicate that it tried to double post, but was correctly prevented this time.
-
Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
That is what I've been getting all along. I haven't actually double-posted. The first time I saw the message, I assumed the forum tried to double post (I'd seen it before on other forums years ago), so, in case it didn't actually post, I copied my post, but assuming it did, I continued on without waiting to "try the post again". Checked back to the thread to make sure the post did indeed post.
But, I didn't try multiple browsers, so it makes sense that I would always get the message.
Quote:
...but was correctly prevented this time...
It would only be correct if you intentionally tried to post twice.
p.s. This post did try to post twice as well (got the 30 second warning message), probably because I added the quote phrase above.

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
I sent the IT person a link to this thread....All but one site has gone through the upgrade/update process and VBF is the only with the dupe posts and PHP errors.

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
I see this error pop show up from time to time on some threads... some, not all... there doesn't seem to be a pattern or any rhyme or reason for when it does or doesn't appear:
Quote:
PHP User Warning: fetch_template() calls should be replaced by the vB_Template class. Template name: bbcode_highlight in ..../includes/functions.php on line 4197
actually, now that I can see it clearly, I wonder if it shows in threads with the highlight tag in it...

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
Don't know if it's connected but I notice that every time I edit a post now the browser just hangs with the little swirly O. If I browse away from the thread and back the edit had been committed but it's like the page never refreshes of it's own accord.
(Double post in 3... 2... 1...)

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
Win10 & FireFox
This seemed to only occur, during past several days, when "Reply with Quote" option was used. But now there doesn't seem to be a pattern. I did a "Quick Reply" on this and got the double-post warning
-
Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
Win 7 & Yandex.Browser.
This happen for me too, constantly. After I making "quick reply" browser redirects me to "Advanced view" page with such error:
Quote:
"Error
The following errors occurred with your submission
This forum requires that you wait 30 seconds between posts. Please try again in 30 seconds."
Actually, my post is already submitted at that time.

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
Interesting bugs - Can someone make a sticky to keep track of these better? I have a bunch more I am noticing.

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
I'm getting the double post, but I guess that's old news. Also, when I first go to the site, I get a bunch of PHP errors showing up at the top of the screen. They go away fairly quickly, and tend to be blue on blue, which makes them darn hard to read. I assume that they are likely the same ones that LaVolpe is reporting.
-
Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
I think they're black on dark blue, but then I haven't bothered looking closely, just ignoring it as it isn't my problem. It could be a Freudian sign of abuse, I guess.

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade

are they ever going to fix the double posting and other errors?

Yes.... In theory:bigyello:

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
It's still there and also the error messages when there code segments is the posts.
The double post message is really annoying.

It is annoying but the biggest problem is that a lot of people don't realise that their post was actually successful and submit the same post again when the time expires.
-
Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
Mods don't get that delay, so I have to delete my double post on almost any post....except in Chit-Chat. At this point, I don't believe I have ever seen a double post in Chit-Chat. The one place it doesn't matter is the one place it doesn't happen. Funny thing, that. Still, it sure seems like a clue.
-
Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
Has there been any progress on this? Every post is followed by a delete, for me, and cleaning up duplicates for others is pretty common, too...though most don't get reported.

I sent in a reminder a couple of days ago and haven't heard back.

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
I noted an earlier post that suggested the duplication was due to code tags. Interestingly, I had yet to see a single duplicate post in Chit-Chat, not even in Post Race, which is mostly drivel to begin with. Therefore, I set about to change that. The samples are in Post Race, but here are the results:
1) Any post that had the formatted code tags (the VB button) would duplicate, even if those tags were inside other tags like the QUOTE tags.
2) The unformatted code tags (# button) do not duplicate.
3) Quote tags do not duplicate.
4) Link tags do not duplicate.
Now, I never use the VB button, normally, as I tend to use the # button (to save two key strokes....those are important, you know...you only have so many in your life), but I get duplicates most of the time in the non-Chit Chat threads. In CC, I have yet to see duplicates until I deliberately trigger them by use of the VB button. It can't be JUST that, because duplicates are just too common.
I also noted that I could tell when a duplicate was coming before I saw it. There would be a bit more of a pause, and a whole lot more of those PHP errors would show up. Perhaps there weren't really more. It's entirely possible that they were there all along, and the longer pause just allowed me to see them before they vanished.
This may be the first time that the Post Race was ever used for anything useful....if only marginally so.

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
I have posts duplicate quite often, even without quotes or code snippets. But, I think they are posts where I've taken some time to complete the edit, so might be tied to the autosave reply function being kicked off.
{Although, I saw the Auto-Save "balloon" pop-up shortly before completing this post, and it didn't double post when submitted}.
-
Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
I believe that the PHP messages shown at the top of the form are part of the same issue with the double posts.
Over in the Post Race, I found that for every page that has a duplicate post showing on it, there are two PHP messages, though all the PHP messages appear to be the same. This appears to be based on the page, not the thread. So, on one page I had one duplicate and had two PHP errors showing. On the next page, between DDay and I, there were 6 duplicate posts, and I saw 12 PHP error messages. szlamany confirmed my count of 12 PHP errors, so I added a seventh duplicate (they can be caused at will in the Post Race, as noted earlier), and there are now 14 PHP errors showing up on that page.
I am seeing one PHP error on this page, but there are no duplicates visible. Perhaps there was a duplicate, and it was removed.

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
Well, Chit-Chat appears to work differently from this forum. That last post duplicated, yet I still see only a single PHP error message at the top of the page. The link is clear in Post Race, but not clear in here.

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
In the Test Area, I tried the preceding test. The result in here is the same as I was seeing in the Test Area. From that, these points can be made:
1) If you use the VB button in the quick reply, you WILL get a duplicate.
2) If you get a duplicate using the VB button in the quick reply, you will get two PHP error lines at the top of the page.
3) The PHP error lines are per page, not per thread.
4) If you delete either duplicated post, it will remove one of the PHP error lines (deleting both posts will remove both PHP lines).
5) The # button will not cause an automatic duplicate.
6) There are other ways to cause duplicates other than using the VB button, but they are less predictable, and do not always result in PHP lines at the top of the form (my duplicated posts #48 and #49 do not have any tags, and didn't result in PHP error lines).
So, if you want something to study, study the VB button and what it is doing. It may not solve ALL of the duplicates, but it has the advantage of being repeatable, and also predictably adding PHP error lines.

BUT, I have sent this info to the IT people upstairs. Please keep trying to recreate it..

Take a look in the forum test thread. If you start with the HIGHLIGHT tag, as you did in #46, the issue doesn't occur. In fact, if you start with something like this it won't duplicate:
Some String[HIGHLIGHT=vb]test[/HIGHLIGHT]
However, if you were to put the HIGHLIGHT tags on the next line it would duplicate:
This will duplicate
[HIGHLIGHT=vb][/HIGHLIGHT]
This is not the whole answer, though, because we are frequently duplicating posts that have no tags. So, while this HIGHLIGHT tag stuff is consistent behavior, and the appearance of the PHP strings is consistent when the HIGHLIGHT tag duplication happens, there is something further going on beyond JUST that.

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
I am not going to start a new thread as I think it fits here.
1) PHP warnings constant on pages header
2) Cant "go to advanced post" as will always say sorry when posting and I will lose the entire post after
3) Cant save an edit with out source mode on. (Far left toolbar)
4) Inserting an image will just insert [attach] tags with random letters
5) Editing a post will just say "message to short" with source mode off
I know I have seen more, the forum is pretty broken tbh and this IT guy should be on the case if a paid job.

Re: Automatic Double Posts Since Upgrade
To add this is all in the VB.nt section and a few times I have written a reply twice to help a user and just walked away due to the fact of losing my post.
