Sending date from one computer to another
I have recently finished a project in VB 2008 Express and was looking for something new, and want to try to understand networking with VB. Can anyone point me towards a tutorial/give me a few tips on how i would set something up such that i can send a variable (like a number or a word) from one computer to another (assuming they were connected via an ethernet cable). Once I have that i can experiment on my own, but everything i could find online was creating systems which were way to complex..
Re: Sending date from one computer to another
You don't send a variable from one computer to another. You don't even send a variable from one object to another. A variable exists within an object and it contains data. You can send that data from one object to another object, which will then store it in a different variable.
You should start by checking out the TcpListener class. It can be used in a server to receive TCP connection requests from clients. At the client end, you would use a TcpClient or a Socket. You might also look at the UdpClient class. If you don't know the difference between TCP and UDP then that's something to research.

thanks - I phrased my inquiry badly - I meant send the data stored within a variable
