What do you think?
Is it cool? Or is it an illusion?
Is what cool? Death?
When you die, you die. You don't really care because as far as consciousness goes you're asleep ;)
And to make sure this doesn't turn religious: THERE IS NO AFTERLIFE. NOBODY COMES BACK AS SOMEONE WITH WEIRD MARKS ON THEIR HANDS!
I have a lot of hair on my palms, but I think that is from something else :D:rolleyes:Quote:

Or lack of something else :p
Actually, I'll have to go with Mike on this. I think that you simply cease to be.
Damn, 4 or 5 replies, and this thread has already got one foot in the gutter...:)
We do our best, don't we! :D
:D We sure do;)
I used to think that when you died, you went to Dimension X, but then I realized that Ninja Turtles was just a cartoon...
It wasn't just a cartoon...it was a way of life
you just die..there is no heaven or hell.. you just cease to exist.
Every day I watched it:D Greatest cartoon ever made (behind DBZ, of course). I can that being the afterworld, and that little brain guy being the devil...Quote:

How does that make sure this doesn't turn religious?Quote:

Guess what? I'm very religious and I agree with you. When you die you're gone, and that's it. You're no longer conscious. There's no soul that comes out and goes places..
By the way, if you're talking about Jesus, I think you just accidently helped this thread turn religious. If you didn't mention anyone coming back (or not coming back) with marked hands, I wouldn't have mentioned Jesus. All I'm gonna say for now is that he, too, didn't have a soul that came out of his dead body and went wherever people like to claim the soul goes after death.
Baa! That's crap. I saw him just last weekend in Jersey.
:)
Nawwww..... that was Elvis.
Where? Where? Damn he's gone :(:(:(
Tygur - finally, a religious person that agrees with me on this :)
I'm dead and it feels pretty normal!
Or arent I?
umm..you're not dead
How can you be sure? Anybody ever see the movie "The Ghost in the Machine"?Quote:

No I haven't
But he did type that into the computer himself, right? With that assumption, I conclude that he's not dead.
I am so dead, deceased, gone, carked it!
So r u?
No..
and how to you explain the fact that you typed that text into your computer?
Perhaps he didn't. Maybe his spirit willed the data on the server to change, therefore creating a post to this thread. John, get the Ghostbusters before you lose the forums!!Quote:

Ok..playing off that.. He obviously wants me to know he's dead. If he's dead and these messages are still coming, I suppose we could assume he's a ghost or spirit. So if he is, maybe he should come here and show himself. Otherwise, I won't believe he's dead because I don't (and shouldn't) believe everything I see typed up on a forum.Quote:

:D
What do you mean? Everything on these forums is completely and totally true. :D:D
But anyway, yes, I believe a little demostration of your deadness is in order Beacon.
:)
Ok crpt.
Parksie stop praying Claudia is not coming to your house to ....
Gods getting pretty annoyed with that request!
No now seriously i am dead!
Proof think this way prove that i am not!
Coz i type on a computer doesnt mean i'm alive!
Proof enough for me :D
So what's your definition of dead? A dead corpse simply cannot get up and start walking around. And if you want to insist that you are dead and typing anyway, I'm forced to say I don't and shouldn't believe everything I see typed up in a forum. If I had the resources to do so, I'd head over to your house and prove you're not dead that way. Just because I don't have the resources to definitively prove you're alive doesn't mean you must be dead.
So why should I believe you're dead just because you say so?
No my body was cremated well thats what i thought well put it this way i havent seen it walking around anywhere.
I'm not asking you too believe that i'm dead but i am asking you this:
Why arent i dead? Just coz you can/could fly over here to heaven and see my typing away on my pentium100 2000000 terrhert machine doesnt mean i'm alive does it?
I get this all the time dont worry. You not dead! You'll come around when you realise your dead as well!
That's assuming I could fly to heaven.
I can easily turn around and say that if I could fly over to your house and see you typing at your plain ordinary computer, that doesn't mean you're dead..
So your saying just because you can see me typing on my computer i'm alive?
Are the poeple in your dreams dead or alive?
BTW Windows Heaven Addition is much better!:p
I'm saying there is no reason for me to believe you're dead, so it's safe to assume you're alive.
And i'm saying there's no reason for you to believe i'm alive.
The only reason you think i'm alive is because there's no reason for you to believe i'm dead.
Thats your perception because you think i'm alive and you also think your alive but in actual fact your dead and so am i!
Your dead this is the afterlife pretty normal hey! Why? Because you dont remember bieng alive do you?
i think you people are all wrong and i am right
when you die you go straight to hell
thats where you go
*if you dont believe in hell, think of the worst thing that happened to you during your life, and imagine going through the same **** over n over n over*
*FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT*
All this depends on your definition of alive and dead.
For example, in the traditional teaching of heaven and hell, they say the soul comes out and goes on living in whether heaven or hell. So if this is the afterlife, we're all living in the afterlife. That means we're still living. Afterlife or no afterlife.
Dead means unmoving, inanimate, unconscious, not doing anything. Alive means the opposite of all that. If you're typing, you're living. If you're dead, you can't be typing, because that's what dead means.
So.. uhh, if we join your religion, we die and go to heaven, but if we remain evil Christians, Hindus, Bhuddists, etc. we go straight to hell?Quote:

Some people never learn.... you're, you're, you're, you're, you're!!!!

Yes but to the real living your dead when actually your saying i'm alive but you'd have to be dead to know that i was alive anyway!
So bieng alive is moving you dont have to have a heartbeat or anything!!!
So to you i'm alive but too many others i'm dead because they didnt read the dictionary or take the bible in the same context as you!
Get it!
Unless i come and haunt you!
So why are you alive?
Actually, I tried the dictionary. It goes in circles. It's actually kinda funny to see these definitions:
Dead: no longer living
Living: (to continue) to be alive or have life
Alive: living; having life; not dead
:D
And I purposely strayed away from the bible this time and stuck with reason, because I figured that'd be the best way of getting through to you..
As long as I am conscious, I am alive. So if I'm capable of saying it, I am living. The same goes for you. If you're capable of saying it, you're alive. In fact, if you're capable of saying anything (even if you say you're dead), you're actually alive in some form. And the fact that you can say it to me means that you're probably alive in the same world/realm as I am.
You're actually the first one to get my point in this thread. Ok not the part where you can "say you are alive" but the part "thinking you are alive". The issue is, how does "physical death" and this kind of death relate? upto you again.Quote:

Also defining death, we have:
1. There's no death, we live
2. There's no life, we are dead
3. There's no life and death, we just are
4. We don't
5. We live in die
What about you Kedaman!?
What is your way of thinking on this issue?
Personally, I hope that when I die that there is something else after, otherwise what is life about!!!!
IUnknown
I think we're just too ignorant to know what were twaddling about, but I hope I do.
When you are in your putative afterlife are you going to go around saying "I hope that when this after-life is over that there is something else after, otherwise what is this after-life about!!!!":confused:Quote:

I just don't fancy the idea of 'ceasing to exist'.!!

Tygur had a point here. If you belive in an after life what you are really saying is that you don't belive in death. You are saying that there is merely a decoupling of the physical and the spiritual.Quote:

Personnally, I think a belief in an afterlife or reincarnation are just manifestations of human kind's reluctance to deal with life's only innevitability; Death.
I believe there's a theory about the evolution of the Universe which is something like a loop:
- Big Bang;
- Expansion of the Universe;
- End of expansion;
- The Universe converges to the center (?);
- Back to Big Bang again.
So I ask: Could human and not human life have a similar behavior?
I would write more, but I'm hungry.
Well, if the universe is in such a loop, is each expansion (and subsequant collapse) identical every time? If it is, then we are stuck in an ever repeating time loop with our futures completely pre-determined. If it is different everytime (and never repeats in exactly the same way) then our destiny must be undefined.Quote:

Interesting as this may be, I can't see whole such a cyclic theory could be applied to human beings?

.
I've got SuSE Linux 7.2 and if someone turns off the power on your computer everything in RAM goes to God for being re-assigned. Sometimes it may not be re-assigned to another PC, sometimes it is. If it are re-assigned a PC, it is re-born, but the memory of the previous distro is flushed out of it.;)
Sorry for being glib - I'm really only pulling your leg - indeed my grandfather - being a closet hindu - believed exactly what you have outlined and I respected him greatly so I'm certainly not being disrespectful
This only happens if the MASS of the Universe exceeds a critical level - effectively there has to be enough stuff (mass) to have enough gravity (curve space) to make everthing fall back - now where are those donuts :pQuote:

I think it was "scientifically prooved" two years ago, that universe expands without bounds by finding evidence of it's acceleration...Quote:

If you apply that on a human being, your existance will become very excentric, maybe like ghosts :p
I don't think it's possible to die, only be more or less aware of something.
Yes I've seen the lastes on this http://www.ency-astro.com/eaa/eaa/wh...ssion=557ce463 butQuote:

I think you'll find its a rather bigger problem than will be proved in a single go. Have a look at this for some interesting background: http://www.duke.edu/~gra/bang.html

Why - I thought you were implying that consiousness could be encoded to a downloadable form - i.e. that it had a 'material carrier'.Quote:
