The 7th semi-annual VB Forums Photography contest is now accepting entries!

You enter by submitting photographs to me and I will accept them in any of following three ways:

• Upload the photos to Flickr (or any other place where I do not need to create an account to access the photos) and post the links in this thread. Optionally include a short description for each photo.
• If the pictures are small enough, put them in a zip file and attach it to this thread. As with Flickr, optionally include a text file containing short descriptions of the pictures.
• Upload the photos (all in one zip or rar file if possible) to SendUIt or similar website. When using SendUIt it's important to select the "Expire in" period before you upload. Please choose an "Expire in" period of at least 3 days. After you do that, post the link that SendUIt will give you here, and again include a textfile with descriptions if you like.

Contest Rules:

• You may submit up to 5 photos.
• The photos must be by you (honor system)
• No "changing your mind" so think about which ones you want to submit.
• No photos that previously placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any of the previous contests will be accepted.
• Voting will begin after the contest closes (see below) and the voting will be by PM to me.
• Only members who joined prior to the creation of this thread will be allowed to vote. This rule does not apply to people who enter photographs.
• Voting for yourself will not be allowed.
• You may vote only once.
• Using PMs, emails, or postings to encourage people to vote for you is not allowed and I will consider that grounds for disqualification
• 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be determined on the basis of total points awarded to a photograph. The total points will be calculated using the following formula for each photo: (10 x the number of 1st place votes) + (5 x the number of 2nd place votes) + (3 x the number of 3rd place votes).
• Best Photographer will be awarded to the photographer whose photos (as a group) garner the most total points.
• The contest will close when 100 photographs have been received or Noon PDT (GMT -8), February 15, 2011 whichever comes first.

BTW Joe has modified this forum and several others so that no matter how large your image may be, it will be sized so that scroll bars are not necessary to see it all.

Why do people keep deleting my offensive posts?

I find it offfensive.

Nothing super here, but interesting aspects of Bridgeport, CT.

1. Shot tower
2. Skull
3. Statue house

The shot tower is where Remmington made lead shot. They did it by dropping molten lead from the top of the tower. It would cool enough by the time it hit the bottom.

The skull is outside of someone's commercial property. I didn't linger.

The house is surrounded by statues. There is even a blow-up doll. This guy must've been breathing the toxic fumes.

Well I messed up (again) on the closing date for the contest since I thought yesterday was the 15th.:blush: Sorry for that and I hope I didn't prevent anyone from entering last-minute entries. In any case the contest voting will still end at Noon PDT (GMT -8), February 25, 2011.

Sorry but the deadline for new entries was February 15th. You can enter the next contest in August if there is one. In any case you can still vote for your favorites of the accepted entries.

Does anyone have any bright ideas about how we can increase the number of people voting in the contest?

Over the history of these contests there have been on average about 25 voters. Considering the size of the community that's pathetically small. This time (at a little past the half-way point for voting) there have only been 15 voters. That's very disappointing but I can't think of anything that can be done although I'm open to suggestions. What I don't want people to do is to PM others and ask them to vote even if it were to be done in a generalized fashion and not asking them to vote for you.

Here are the stats so far

• People who entered 16 (about average)
• Total people voting 15
• Voters who didn't enter 4
• Entrants who haven't voted 5

I had no idea there were so few votes in the past and so few votes now. Maybe if there's some member who is really rich and also interested in the contest they can pay people to vote. :lol:

Yes, until now I kept that quiet because while it's a small number I thought it was still fun to do. This will however be the last contest unless we get more votes.

I think, adding a animated banner would get more attention. Because your signature contains many sentences. So, only some of the viewers would try to read all of them. Instead, if you used some attractive things (like animated banner or graphic rich still banner), then it would get more attention :thumb:

That is a good point! :)

Despite my best efforts there have only been 18 votes which tells me that people are just not interested. So unless somthing amazing happens in the next 3 1/2 hours this will be the last contest.
