Long live the new king - Hack.
Sid
Found him

Apparently that was his last post....
Wow, lots of old names on there of people who have dropped away over the years. Funny that I showed up only a month or so later (I was a lurker for a bit before registering).
I guess I just barely missed it too.
Wow... talk about a trip down memory lane... thanks hack!
I don't know that I actually fully recovered from that outage... I still have this twitch in my right eye

this thread is such a coincidence. I had just read that thread before finding this one. I was helping another member to debug his subclassing of another program, and my forum search turned up a codebank listing by megatron. So i was wondering about him as well and did another search for his posts and turned up the exact same post you did, and this thread. Wow, memories. I used to be a lot more useful back then, as vb.net didn't exist. Nowadays, i know net, but there are so many areas i can't help in at all, and everyone seems to have questions involving databases or web integration. If it wasn't for the general pc forum, i'd be useless
Kedaman! Where is kedaman?
Phew, that thread is still in VB6. Nobody has yet moved it to Chit Chat. I wonder if I can report a thread that old...
.
So it was vb-world before becoming vbforums :ehh:
Yes, it started off as a website with tutorials and code snippets and had a small area reserved for discussing VB related matters.
I think it was started by John Perceival (sp?) and a few other friends. Then it was 'taken over' by Karl Moore, and then by Jupiter Media, i.e. Brad and team.
The two most important things for me are the forums are still free, and Chit Chat has still managed to survive. There were times the mods/admins were seriously planning to kill Chit Chat (I remember very well the aftermath of 9/11 and the flaming wars. Those were scary times!). Chit Chat has become much civilized now, compared to what it was.
Ah yes, I didn't lose my post counts!
.
Did a search in the vb6 forum and the oldest thread in there is from 25-Sep-1999.
Edit:
Found the reason why the thread only go back the the above date here.
That was supposed to be the dooms day according to Mayan calendar. :ehh:
No, the Mayan calendar predicts the doomsday to be sometime in Dec 2012. I saw the hollywood movie day before yesterday!
.
The NeedSomeAnswers calendar predicts that Doomsday will be the day i die !!
Jacob Roman. He kept getting himself banned :D
Dennis, Kowan, Jethro, DragonFly ... *sigh*
.
no one else mentioned him so... :duck:
Just looked at some old [vb4]posts of mine, stupid I was, and he helped me out.
Back in 02-03 I used to take the actual posted math-problem with me on my trainride back home for the weekend.
Nowadays there are not that much problems posted anymore (..and I have to go by car now.)
Wow, blast from the past. Wonder what happened to some of those folks?
Two people seem to have mentioned that Bonker is departed, yet he posted only a day or so back. He's not dead, he's just hiding.
barrk, Matthew Gates
Then there was jesus4u. Oh, I almost miss him and Kowan!
.
And there was Bob... I think Bob set the record for getting the most neg reps the fastest. I (don't) wonder what ever became of him.
-tg
He's not gone, either. Last activity was Jan 10 of this year. He's still the anchor.
I never saw anything particularly bad out of him, and always wondered if he sank so fast because of persistent difficulty with a second (or third) language more than anything else.
You mean bob that always marks his threads with the 'angry face' smiley?
"I never saw anything particularly bad out of him" -- I did... it was mostly early on... and it wasn't a language problem, but a really bad surly attitude... demanding, like he was entitled to the answers. The last few I've seen from him have softened up some... so maybe it was a language barrier... but still...
Now I'm curious... when you give rep, your own repping power is used... so if good rep adds, and negative reps subtracts... if someone has neg rep, and they give neg rep... is it a double negative and turn into a positive? 8 - -4 = 12 .... like that?
-tg
It is rather like you find in the description for neutral ratings: "A neutral rep, from a member who has under 20 posts or less than 5 rep points. These do not affect your reputation."Quote:

But it could be "funny" if it would be like you "propose".
And talking about this Bob, I do always remember it is this Bob as soon as(or better as late as) he replies on an answer I gave.
I thought that when you give negative reps, it subtracts half your reputation power.
So, if the person you give reps has 20 points, and your rep power is 10, then when you give negative reps, it will be 20 - 5 = 15. And if you would give positive reps, then it would be 20 + 10 = 30.
so if your rep power was -10 ... half that is -5 ... does it then add 5 when you give negative rep"?
*shrug* I'm sure there's something in place to deal with that. It was just me thinking out loud.
-tg
Like I posted before, you can only give rep's at all if you have a minimum of 20 posts AND at least a rep of +5.
When you give a negative rep it takes your total rep points and divides that number by 2.
Then that number is multiplied by a factor of +1 for each year you have been a member of the forums then subtracts your age.
Then that number is added to your good cholesterol count, subtracted by your bad cholesterol count and multiplied by the square root of total numbers of years of higher education that you have completed.
By then it has completely lost track of what it is doing and just gives the member a positive rep of 2 points.
And now you know the rest of the story.
I'd say it is academic.
I did once bring somebody up out of the red, but I think I know who it was, and I think they are back to the red. Perhaps water seeks its own level.
I was just looking at the VBForums members list for reputation. Here's the first page
http://www.vbforums.com/memberlist.p...ort=reputation
and here's the last page
http://www.vbforums.com/memberlist.p...tion&page=3825
If you put your mouse over the red reputation dot for members on that last page it doesn't give you a number but says : (member name) has a little shameful behavior in the past. That's what it says for all the members on the last page except the one that is the very last. For that member it says : bob5731 can only hope to improve. We don't know what negative reputation figure that represents. There are only a total of 20 members at this time that have a red reputation dot.
Hahaah. Bob is last, and he's actively here over 6 years :D
Brad and JPnyc are on second to last page. For shame! ;)
Have you noticed that is going somewhat is the same order as traffic lights?
Green, Black (Yellow on traffic lights), Red
Edit:
That means bob5731 has a reputation between -010 and -050. (member name) has a little shameful behavior in the past have a reputation of 0000 between -010. That is all according to the forum faq.
Only -10?!
There was also HarryW, taking the piss out of everyone.
Aaron Young, Chris ... who else?
Oh, and SurfDaemon!
.
How about Arc, TomGibbons, Slaine, rjlohan
Wow... now that's some name dropping there Hack... Have you been hanging out with Mr. Peabody and the WABAC machine?

Even I am often astounded at the things I find in my memory.
