[RESOLVED] Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
It's easy, i just wanted to know how easy :)
Below is an encrypted paragraph of english text.
Code:
o vgxsr soat zg ziqfa dn dxd, dn lolztk qfr dn
ukqfryqzitk gf ziol yqfzqloeqssn tfsouiztfofu rqn. ql
vozigxz zitlt uktqz htghst of dn soyt ziol
qeitoctdtfz ktqssn vgxsrf'z iqct wttf hgllowst.
ktuqkrofu dn yqzitk, it'l qf orogz, vig styz dt wtygkt
dn wokzi. zg iod o lqn "ngx liqss ftctk wt ygkuoctf".
ziqfangx tctkngft ygk egdofu zgfouiz.
Please take this seriously!
EDIT: Darts & Cloftefer, you may not respond to this thread as you already know how to decrypt it.

Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
If it wasn't Sunday night then i'd probably have a go, but I can't be arsed.
-
Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
If my copy of VB wasn't melting on me, i'd crack it pretty quickly.. as it is, I really don't feel like putting the time in to do it manually.
-
Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
Oh, the old "melting VB" excuse. How original.

Get it fixed :D

Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
I know, why don't you post the message in plain text but in an unusual font. That way we won't have to put much brain power into it.
-
Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
Is o I?
By the way, I have no idea how to crack this, but i'll give it a shot :D
-
Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
The improbable frequencies of Z and X suggest that a simple swap cypher (possibly rotational or combinatorial) is in use.

Tell me what you mean? Is O in the text above equal to i?
If so, then yes.
-
Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
yay! just twenty-something more letters to go!

Indeed. Good Luck :D

Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
Does it say "I am not paying more for my encryption software"?

No, and another clue would be, each character is represented by only one character.

Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
Learn to spell! It should be "qeiotctdtfz" ;)

Looks like someones managed it then ;)

Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
It took me 3 hours to descifer this:
Code:
i would like to thank

thanking everyone ending tonight

But if I had more time, i'm sure I could descifer it !
I have to go to sleep, it's 12:25 midnight here, and tomorow I have to go to work...
I have to be awake again in 6 hours !!!

Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
With a little help from CVMicheal and notepad's find and replace, I've cracked it
[EDIT: Removed passage]
And within 5 minutes.

Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
I Would Like To Thank My Mum, My Sister And My
Grandfather On This Fantasically Enlightening Day. As
Without These Great People In My Life This
Acheivement Really Wouldn't Have Been Possible.
Regarding My Father, He's An Idiot, Who Left Me Before
My Birth. To Him I Say "you Shall Never Be Forgiven".
Thankyou Everyone For Coming Tonight.

Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
That took 4 minutes, most of which was the time taken for windows to restart. :D
-
Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
That's what it was throwing me off... the capitals !
I assumed all leters are in lower chars, and I was confuzed why the "same letter" would have diferent results, that's because one was in capital, and another was not...
Anyways... whould anyone have been able to decrypt it if I would not have posted my partial solution ?
-
Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
Yes its very obvious. Capitalisation has nothing to do with it, its just easier to do a search and replace if you replace with upper case letters. The stupid forum software decided to Title Case my text because it is an idiot.
The large numbers of "z" is a dead givaway and is probably either "T" or "E", once you have that you can build up the rest using a dictionary attack or further character statistical analysis.
-
Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
If you do decide to do search and replace, then don't forget to select "Match Case". That's what mistake I did last time in notepad.
To be honest, I wouldn't have done it without CVMicheals post, since I am a notorious n00b at this cracking thing, and would've been completely doomed without CVMicheal.
I even needed confirmation that o was i!!!
-
Re: Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
Whee!
Well done you lot, as you say the give aways are always common letters like "e" and "t". hy ar ovrusd and ovrrad :lol:
There is no capitilisation in my passage as proved, you did a splendid job :D
The cipher is simply your average qwerty keyboard re-keyed with A - Z :D (Top line would read abcdefghij)
:D

Re: [RESOLVED] Cany anyone crack this rather weak encryption?
That was the first time ever to even try to break an encryption.
But I saw patters, and it seems simple, so I took it as a chalange...
But I was kinda tired when I started to decrypt it, and I made many mistakes.
The method I used:
I have a database with words, about 60,000 words.
I did a search in the database for word length, and repetitive letters in the same word, for example, the encrypted word "tfsouiztfofu"
I searched for words that are 12 chars long, and only those words where characters 2, 9, and 11 are the same, and also character 5 and 12 are the same, and the result is "enlightening"...
My mistake was that I was not doing the character replace properly.
Let's say I want to replace chars for "egdofu"
I know that g -> u
so then it becomes: eudofu
and then I know that u -> g
so then it becomes: egdofg
As you can see the way I was doing it, the letter that was already decrypted, I was replacing again... because I was trying to decrypt another letter...
That was the problem, I just did:
Str = Replace(Str, "g", "u")
Str = Replace(Str, "u", "g")
And it was messing up everything... I should've kept track of the letters that were already replaced, and not replace again...
Anyways.... I learn fom my mistakes, and next time I'll know what to do

Let's say I want to replace chars for "egdofu"
I know that g -> u
so then it becomes: eudofu
and then I know that u -> x
so then it becomes: exdofx
As you can see the way I was doing it, the letter that was already decrypted, I was replacing again... because I was trying to decrypt another letter...
That was the problem, I just did:
Str = Replace(Str, "g", "u")

Yep, when i created the program to switch between the two i made the same mistake! To cleare it u, i did it char by char stepping over them... If you know what i mean. Like, index 0, then 1, 2 3... and so on. That way i never got the same letter twice :D Takes a little longer, but ensures a good end result.
I like your method of searching a database though, i would of never thought of that!

I don't know the anser, but I can write another encrypted form of the anser:
b bbbb bb bbbb bb bbbbbbb! b bb bbb bb bb bbbb.
Decrypted, that should give the same result...
