Religious topics on VBForums

I do not believe it is anyone's right to suppress what is effectivly the US constitution's 1st Amendment, that of the freedom of speech.

Whilst religion is obviously an inflammitory subject in VBF, I find it infinitally more cerebral and less offensive than "Does you Girlfriend swallow" or "I'm bored, let's be idiots".

There has been some very intellligent and absorbing discussions over the years about religion. Banning religious threads because the majority cannot agree with j4u, are unable to convince j4u of the "error of his ways", and cannot handle it properly is, in my eyes, a mistake.

There are many greater problems than this in the real world - I think it's good training for the younger members to deal with memeber who have alternative points of view.

And personally? I don't think anyone should be able to tell me not to start a discussion about religion. I'll be a martyr (albeit a non-christian one...)

New boss in town gaffs. Also means new rules. Although I'm glad J4U is gone, I can't agree with the notion that every discussion about religion is not done on these forums. There are, if you look past the zealots, a number of people who can discuss it as it is intended.

Although I may have been overzealous in my reactions at times, I've never disrespected a christian for his views and I never dictated what others should believe, I simply made it clear that I did not want to be tarnished as a sinner in principe and that I did not need to be bombarded by a barrage of God's 'love'.

It does not warrant a complete ban of it. Either you make it clear right from the start or you stick to moderating where necessary but you don't go around banning a subject because some moron insists on spamming the board with it.

Anyway, a forum is not a democracy and I suppose those will be the new rules. So be it.

I always play devils advocate(sorry alexpol/J4U :p), I dont believe a Freedom can be used to override another freedom, rule, or right. If the mods wish to dictate what is acceptable, than they have the right to do so as this cannot be considered a public forum. Sure anyone can join here, but it is owned by someone, so they can dictate the rules.

But he still has the right to speak. My issue too was not with the banning of him, but the carpet-bombed approach of "NO RELIGIOUS DISCUSSION AT ALL HERE". That's my point...
