I want to try something, what kind of things can be done?
Painting, window mods, lights, for appearance related stuff
Side/top ventilation, baybuses, for functional stuff
See I was bored out of my mind in class today, So I was looking at the case mods at HardForums. Anyway one thing I dont get, what material are the windows made of? and are those glowy lights connected to the Power Supply or someting else? :D

I'm not sure where the lights are hooked up to, I'd assume the PSU but it might be from an external source
one of these days i am planning on adding an input fan on the back of my computer (there is a bracket prebuiltin in case you wanted to mid-maount your power supply i guess)
I think i will look around for a really cool stencel and spray paint a really cool design on it :)
Something like this would be cool
You can build those LED wired with LEDs and 1Kohm resisters and plug that in the 12V out of ur power supply.
I got Black light inside my PC it is awesome, i'll take a picture when i'll get home, I spent like $USD 25.00 on it...
http://www.modding.net/article.asp?ArticleID=40
Nobody says you have to use the rainbow LEDs..
You can use blue and white ones...
Not a case mod per say but makes it look cool if you do the window mod
And dont put them in your PSU that's a silly waste of time, do it for case fans instead
just get 2 power supply in that bugger ( one for the PC, the other one for accessories ( must me an AT one ))
one of my friends has the best case mod ever, we had Razer the robot from robot wars come to our uni, and we spent ages talking to the owners of the robot and my friend took a side panel off of his case and the robot put two big holes in it and then signed it, i think that this is the best case mod ever !!
My favorite mod still has to be the one where the guy put his comp in a suitcase, and had the lcd display on the side. that was cool
Yah I saw that in a QuakeCon Pic it looks cool. I also like the ones in mini friges.
the LCD one was cool :)
That's me old bud Eyecannon :DQuote:

The Duron in that box died yesterday :( last I heard he was going to get a new one and a new heatsink at Frys (as the OCZ POS was most likely what caused it)
:(, that sucks...but why did he put a duron in there?
he was out of money I guess, he also had an Abit KT7A-RAID which is a relatively old board (SDRAM and not DDR)Quote:

is he gonna upgrde the board?
He might but he hasn't told us about any plans to do so yetQuote:

It's just his LAN party box, it's not his main box
ah, makes sense. Thats an awesome lan party box though :)
Yep, i'd kill for one :)Quote:

I've never been to a lan party, though i'd like to get a better main computer before i even think about lan box :)
check out

www.modders.net
they should give u some ideas
Theres a LAN party hosue around here but it's friggin expensive, $30 to get in the door, AND you have to bring everything, it's for ONE DAYQuote:

I'd rather just have some free play with my friends online :)
yeah, it would probably be a gigantic nerd fest anyway. I don't think i would go to one if i could.
there is nothing wrong with LAN parties
ooops .... i will now hang my head in shame
I would not mind trying one out, but only with friends and where its free.
yeah they friends thing sounds cool.
there are few places round by me that have leauge to win cash... there is also somewhere that will support over 1000 players at a time
you can buy neons that hook up to a 4pin mulex or you can get one that goes onto the 12volt car adapter, cut off the adapter and put the red withe to a yellow wire on the 4 pin molex and the black wire on the black wire.Quote:

If you check out http://www.coolcasemods.com
you can buy cases that are pre-modded... or you can just buy the bits to make you own
For stuff in the US check out http://www.so-trickcomputers.com/

Anyone one know a place in Canada?
its just looks :p i really don't get people who spend $$$ on a cool looking case, good ventilation is all i require.
instead of starting a new thread, thought I'd might as well post it here as it's related...
does anyone know where i could get a totally clear case?
Why do people build model cars and planes? all they do is sit on the shelf. Seems pointless to me, but to others, quite an enjoyable hobby. :)Quote:

Most people do non functional case mods to show off at LAN parties.Quote:

Functional case mods however are a great thing, but I don't need any ;) :D
I just want to get an intake fan (I think i will swipe a power supply fan from a crap 486 at school). Anyways i want to put a little dimmer thingy on it so i can slow it down and it won't keep me awake when i leave on while sleeping
Why don't you just unplug it while you sleep. That's what i do to mine. CPU temps rise to like 50C with no case fans, idle, hehe:pQuote:

Seriously where did you get those.
uh school, well i think i deserve it. every day for the past 2 weeks i have given up my lunch hour to format computers, i have gone through about 10 (it takes longer to stick 95 on a machine that has no network connection and no CD-ROM, so i have to put the installation files on a hard drive, then install dos on each individual machine, then install the hard drive, then copy the installation files to it, then install it, then set it up to work with the routers that they are to be hooked into :P) bah i got them out of the junk electonics room, i only took 2! that isn't such a HUGE crime, 40 cents for about 20 hours of work, plus all the other crap i have done for that school

It will probabally be easier and cheaper to make your own....
or you could mod a fishtank
so instread of helping people with computer problems you guys turned this forum into a chat room so you can talk about computers.
really degraded this forum.
you finally got it and no you want to abuse it.
Chill...this is the ONE thread we've had related to case modding and such :)Quote:

Scout if you havent noticed their have not been many Computer problems lately, so why shouldnt we be able to talk about something, PC related, but does not involve solving someones computer problems? Its not like their quetions are ignored either.
yeah but you were talking about dimmer switches at school. also I have been around long enough to see if that you fool around in forums and not talk about what the forum is about it will get moved or the forum will become "post don't count."Quote:

but then again don't mind me as I am having one of those days. :p
yeah ok did you even read my post? i want to modify my case to hook it up through the dimmer switch i got from school so that an intake fan i am going to put in will not keep me awake during the night
This forum IS called General PC, no? I dont see the word "problem" anywhere near it. If you want to talk about anything that has anything to do with your PC, it seems to fit quite nicely into this forum.
Z.
I got some blank stencils, I am going to look for a good design then copy it, then spray paint it case panel :D
I had a kinda tangential thought about all this cooling and modding stuff last summer.
I thought it would be cool if someone manufactured case jackets filled with some kind of fluid (I originally thought water, but there are some obvious considerations to take into account), that you could stick in the freezer, and put around your case on a hot day. It wouldn't do an amazing job at cooling, but it would bring the ambient temperature down and make your fans a little more efficient. the jacket would have to have openings in it for air circulation, but well...its an idea :)
i'm about to finish my first watercooling project this weekend (if everything goes right). i did some major mod on my case, cut the hole for the radiator and stuff and painted the entire case...
will post pictures when i'm done!
jpb,
i got EP-8KHA+ brand new for $65 :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
laterz...
Thats cool, cant wait to see the pics :)
Interesting...:DQuote:

over the weekend i got around to putting in an extra fan into the back of my computer, then on monday, despite all warning labels, i cracked open a fried power supply @ school and got a fan out of there (i am quite handy with electricity and know what i am tlaking about). Anyways it doesn't have the same connecter as the one coming out of the power supply so the fan i bought had an extension for the daisy chain which i just spliced and stuck on that extra fan, i learned at school that if you touch two exposed ends of power cables while the computer is running it will create a great spark, the computer immediately goes off, and it scares the **** out of you, no damage thouhg (i would NEVER try that with my computer, however it was a 486, hell, i had the hard drive successfully running with no cover on it :) )
uh... why resistors? havent you ever heard of 12v LEDs ?!Quote:

What are those things called that people use to wrap around there wires? and how much voltage goes to the LEDs?
Cable ties? :DQuote:

No idea.
electrical tape? oh those things shaped like cones wire connecters
