a LAN program

umm, i have worked on this for a while now (couple of months) and would like some beta testers to test it for me. it is a basic LAN chatter, file-sender app that has some nifty features in it as well. could u post to me what u think is crappy (:rolleyes: ) and what is good and so on.....thx ppls

ps: only the EXE is in this coz i was thinkin of postin it on downloads.com, so obviously i wont give the source out...
pps: it is a RAR file in a ZIP file. it was the only way i could get it to fit in the 100000bytes limit.

Considering your avatar and your relatively informal English, I would rather have the source code before running a compiled EXE on my system.

I downloaded the file and opened it and I am proud to say that my trust payed off. Its a great program and the UI is quite refined. It ran without any problems at all and I am going to use it from now on in my home office for a quick and easy way for my secrataries to communicate between each other and myself.

As the author has stated he didn't want to give out the source as he was affraid people would steal parts. It is a excellent program don't be so afraid.

Emo, thanx for trying it. Appreciated very much. The only thing i have to tell you is that you cannot test it over the internet, so to test it fully, you would need 2 (or more) computers hooked up in a LAN. If i have misunderstood you, correct me. But again, thanx for testing it.

Does it work in NT.

WHat about having 1,800 computers in Network neighbourhood.

Casue its crashing on startup while its seraching for computers.

yeah it does work on NT (tried it at school, worked fine)! umm i dont think its crashing, maybe just taking a while because of the number (1800 in your case:eek: ) of computers it is looking for. does it give an error message or anything? perhaps ur network settings are conflicting?? i dont really know.could i have a screenshot of what it does?

Just letting you know that it did work. In the list it only actually showed up the comps/servers i was logged in to. (novell netware). still took a while to load up.

thx for the update sparki! the long loading time is something i cannot fix, its due to the "s h i t t t y" way Winblows handles networking. i could add a counter in there tho that will show how long it will take so the person waiting has an idea of what is goin on. anyways, Sparki, how does the file transfer feature work? is it workin ok?

i didnt get a chance to test it there. but i will try and do it asap prob is i'm on a course all week in the lakedistrict.

and yes it uses comp names, not tcp/ip as it doesnt need to go outside the network (ie. internet)

ya! all it is is Winsock. no special control or API. just the easy to use winsock control.

so what features does it have?

umm, well lets see.... it has file transfer abilities, IM (kinda like ICQ style), ignore list, in built port scanner, in built games (connect4 and SOS), some other nifty built in apps, tray icon sending so it doesnt get annoying, chat history manipulation (printing etc...) and hopefully if i can get a control for it, some skin abilities as well. i hope thats enuf for u. so does this mean u will try it? if yes, click here to download it and try it out.....thanx in advance if u can test it out, TheSarlacc! ps: any suggestions for additional feature would come handy

My school has said i may try it out on there Windows network (for the teachers)

I apologise because i think i forgot to include a crucial file (SETUP.LST). this aborted the installation. i have replaced the zip file with the SETUP.LST file included. sorry about that... Does the program support multiple networks ? (in network neighbourhood there can be multiple groups, so the entire network) (sorry for my bad english)

any computers that appear in the network neighbourhood window will appear in this program. the only catch is it doesnt show the groups that they are in. i am working on a new version that will do that.

this program is written in Visual Basic 6.0 EE. and it does not use winsock API calls. it uses the winsock OCX control.
