Damn I knew I had something going on next weekend :(
I already scheduled a gathering for Sat but I wanted to go to this. I missed the one at USC. One of my friends at work was presenting at that one. A few other programmers from work are going to this one too. We try to make these as usually someone is presenting.
Perhaps I can just go to the Sunday session.
There are a couple of guys from the local .NET user group presenting.
I'm out east in Moreno Valley/Riverside so this one is closer then most.
They are having a geek dinner on Sat too.
Yea, I saw that too. My gathering is from the afternoon til late night so only possibly could I squeeze in some time in the morning.
I didnt look very closely but when is the first session on Sat?
Oh I see Jon Flanders is presenting on REST. I have seen it already as he presented for our .NET user group back in Sept I think it was.
Hes a good presenter but you will never see him in anything other then super casual clothes like tshit and shorts
David McCarter is a MVP I believe if its the same one. Presenting on Fav Tools.
So far these are of interest and in the times I can make...
Absolutely Best UI. Part 1. Present Information With Clarity
Best Practices for Maintainable ASP.NET 3.5 Applications
Build Unit Tests the Easy Way with VS.NET 2008
Building nTier Applications with Entity Framework Services
Getting Started with SQL Data Services

Introduction to Silverlight and XAML Part 1
Introduction to Silverlight and XAML Part 2
LINQ 101
You're so lucky to be in america :( i'm in singapore and we don't get cool things like this....
So start one up :)
Ineta is global I believe. You just need some people that know their "stuff".
Cool. I think i'll stil save up so I can come to the next big seminar in the states. I want to meet some of you guys in person :)
hmm...Quote:

We don't get them here in the rust belt either.Quote:

Oh well. i will go next time :D or not... Do they talk about PHP? i <3 php
Where are you at? I did see at least one talk on PHP and Javascript.
I live in Orange County
I'm waiting on some seminars to come to Dublin or cork again, I missed the last one where everyone got lots of free goodies and some great speeches.
Sorry bro. You are on the wrong side of the event. I'm to the east of it and you are to the west.Quote:

I'm registered! :)
Which sessions are you signed up for Ed?
Ps, I was just at our monthly .NET User Groupo meeting last night. Kevin Orbacher (I think thats how you spell his last name) gave a presentation on BizTalk and ESB. So much to do and learn with so little time :(
I am still trying to decide. I was going to carpool down on Sat with a friend but really it seems like the better sessions are on Sun. Are you going both days?
I'll probably end up going on Sat and the Geek Dinner could be cool.
So far I like:
Best Practices for Maintainable ASP.NET 3.5 Applications
Absolutely Best UI. Part 1. Present Information With Clarity
Real World SQL Data Services
Effective usage of JavaScript using JQuery in modern web applications.
F#
Leveraging Blend in the XAML Application Development Process
The Future of Managed Code
Active Directory Programming for Developers: Level 1.0
Active Directory Programming for Developers: Level 1.5
Active Directory Programming for Developers: Level 2.0
Speaking of good UI. The whole interested/sign up bit kind of sucks on that site.
Yea tell me about it. Its hard to select the ones your interested and schedule them properly. It looks like they just want to know how many are "interested" and not an actual session signup? How would they know if they have enough room if its just a free selection vs registration?
I think I have showed "interest" in...
(Gonna use this post to layout my schedule lol)
Sat 08:45 a - Build Unit Tests the Easy Way with VS.NET 2008
Sat 08:45 a - LINQ 101
Sat 10:00 a - Best Practices for Maintainable ASP.NET 3.5 Applications
Sat 11:15 a - Introduction to Silverlight and XAML Part 1
Sat 11:15 a - Simplify XML Processing using LINQ to XML
Sat 01:15 p - Introduction to Silverlight and XAML Part 2
Sun 09:00 a - WPF Best Practices
Sun 10:15 a - Managed Extensibility Framework: An Overview
Sun 11:30 a - Building RESTful Services using Windows Communication

Sun 01:30 p - Building nTier Applications with Entity Framework Services
Sun 01:30 p - WCF 3.5 sans Powerpoint
Sun 02:45 p - SQL Server 2008 New Features for Developers and DBAs
They allow double booking so it must not be enforced on campus I guess. :D
Maybe the double booking is just for people with split personalities.
The RESTful Services with WCF sounds good too.
Yea I have already seen his REST presentation (he wrote a book on it too) but I dont want to waste time inbetween sessions so it will be good to show support and see it again. :)
Our web tech lead is presenting this weekend too. Going to try to get in to at least one of them.
Split personalities get twice the work and learning done! :thumb: :D
I waaaaant! Video tape it if you can
Like one of those movies where the guy running the video is eating popcorn and shaking a lot?
Sure, just mail me your video camera :D
I will see if there will be any recordings and where they will be available for viewing. :)
Hey I just got permission to post this in public.
Cal State Campus MapQuote:
Dear Rock & Roll Code Camp attendee, please PRINT THIS EMAIL, AND PRINT THE STUFF WE TELL YOU TO PRINT INSIDE!!!!
Parking and Campus Layout – Of course you have to find the campus to attend Code Camp…here is a map (see attachment) to give you an idea of the parking lot to use and where to enter the campus. All parking regulations will be enforced except the need for a permit. So in other words, parking is free, but DO NOT park in a spot with other restrictions (like limited time, loading or handicapped), or you will get a ticket.
Registration – When you register, we’ll tell you how to find your way around campus (but you should still print the map). We’ll give you a ticket for raffles to be on Saturday and Sunday. We have LOTS of prizes to give away, you need a ticket to win! You can also get a ticket to the GEEK dinner at this time. By registering, you’ll help us properly track the number of attendees, important for us to have future events and gather sponsors!!! Please be sure and visit our registration table when you arrive on Saturday!
Sessions – The session schedule is posted to the Code Camp site here http://www.socalcodecamp.com/schedule.aspx. We will have master schedules posted around the campus, but you should print your own copy for convenience. Each room will also have a list of sessions and speakers for each day, at the entry. There is always the possibility of change due to unforeseen circumstances, be sure and check the door of the room you are entering and the posted schedules to make sure you are in the right place
>>>>> Handouts - print your own - we don't have any!!! <<<<<<
Remember, this is a community event so you have to print your own stuff! Here is a list of things you should print:
· This email!
· The attached PDF with directions to campus and the campus map.
· The latest schedule http://www.socalcodecamp.com/schedule.aspx ! WE THINK WE ARE DONE, BUT IF YOU CAN, TRY TO PRINT THIS ON FRIDAY MORNING IN CASE THINGS ADJUST MILDLY!!!!
>>>>> Food <<<<<<
MORNING COFFEE – There will be a coffee stand for your morning fix on Saturday and Sunday.
Lunch – You should probably eat breakfast to feed your brain before you get to the camp…but there are vending machines for emergencies. This information is on the campus map. We have also provided a list of nearby locations where you can grab lunch each day in the location map. Don’t forget to print a copy of this as well.
Lunch Money – If you need money for vending machines, or for lunch…there are bank machines on campus…in case you forgot your cash!
>>>>> Giveaways at Code Camp <<<<<<
Of course you want to know where you can find all the cool Code Camp SWAG and how you can win other cool prizes!
There will be a number of tables near registration that will have free stuff for the first to arrive and grab.
We will be doing raffles at the end of the day Sunday.
BRING YOUR BUSINESS CARDS!!!! Our sponsors are collecting cards to give away prizes, and you need not be present to win for these prizes!!!!
· PDSA - $100 gas card
· Neudesic - $50 gas card
· Microsoft – XBOX
We will also do the usual raffles on Sunday:

>>>>> GEEK DINNER AGENDA <<<<<<
The geek dinner is free…but we can only host the first 143 who ask. You have to register for the dinner on Saturday morning with registration to reserve a seat. We did this so that we can ensure attendance numbers…so please take a ticket if you plan to attend, otherwise remove your name to make room for another geek who wants to eat and rock out! More info on the geek dinner here: http://www.socalcodecamp.com/GeekDinner.aspx
Location: at the Cantina Lounge
Food, water and soft drinks will be provided and a no-host bar. Here's the agenda:

· 6:30-8:30pm – Enjoy a wonderful buffet and live music and dancing with SoundCake!

If I still lived out there, I'd be going (used to call Cucamonga home) ... I wonder what it would take to start one up out here? .... hmmm.... (that sound you hear is the gears turning sans WD40).

Well if anyone guess tomorrow look for a chubby dude with a buzzed head and light beard with a green and gold packers shirt and say hi.

Sorry, that's not a geek dinner.
All the best geek get-togethers are organised by corporate banquet organisers. This causes all the geeks to stay at home, just they way nature intended.
:lol::lol:
I missed out on Sat (had to repair my washing machine parts place is closed on sun's) but I did go on Sunday. Was fun but sessions were way too short. Also, some were heavy on the powerpoint. :( I want to see code!!! :D
m.Schema seems like a missing link between developers and dba's
I went for 2 sessions on Sun and all Sat. A lot more people were there on Sat.
I'm with you on Code vs. PowerPoint. I'm perfectly happy if there are no slides.
Some of the speakers were hit and miss but I guess you get what you pay for. One didn't show so we jumped ship to something else. Overall I thought it was pretty good though. It feels like I didn't get a weekend though.
The Geek Dinner was cool too.
So how do they taste?Quote:

I meant the guy doing 'Absolutely Best UI. Part 1. Present Information With Clarity' but the guy teaching the class that you mentioned didn't show either because I attended the class after that one in the same room and there were some people there talking about it.
 We crossed paths then as I went into the room to see if he ever showed up after the m / oslo class across the hall. There was like 5 people in there still having a pow wow.
Perhaps you seen a tall guy with a Raiders hat?
I should find out tomorrow about the guy as couple of my friends and co-workers were there and we called the guy but no answer so we hope he shows up at work tomorrow or hear something sooner.
I was probably too busy pow wowin'. I didn't see any raiders hats but a handful of people came by asking about Anand (isn't that the guy's name?).
I had a dark red fender shirt with yellow writing. Almost crossed paths...
lol almost and yea its Adnan.
I was talking to Steve Bearman at lunch and found out that he lives a few blocks from me lol
David McCarter is another MVP presenting and he was saying the next codecamp is going to be in June down in SD. Too far for powerpoint presentations lol.
