If someone here does believe that the Earth is flat, can they explain exactly how we never fall off? I'm genuinely interested in the reason behind it, and I can never understand it when I read these sites.

Conspiracy theorists have an ironclad defense. Everybody who provides any kind of evidence contrary to the theory is part of the conspiracy. This circular paranoia is extremely robust because it technically answers all questions.

If the earth were flat there would be others things to consider. Are we sitting on one side of a cube and if so what are the dimensions of the cube? If not a cube then perhaps a flat piece of earth but of what shape and thickness. A flat disc? How thick is the disc and what is the diameter. If it has a diameter then the disc has an edge. Let the flat earthers show us where this edge is.
In the article one guy thinks the earth is flat and horizontally infinite - it stretches horizontally forever. Where is all this extra land or is it just ocean? You could go on with the questions forever of course.

Check out www.theflatearthsociety.org. Yes, I've been doing some ranting, attempting to force the truth down their painfully ignorant throats... doesn't seem to be working.
Their idea is that the earth is a disc 9000km thick and 25000km in diameter. The crutch for their entire theory is that gravity is a farce, as I proved with numbers in a rant to them. Simply speaking, if their scenario were true, then at the center of the planet's surface, gravity would be four times stronger than we feel it, and at the outer edges, it would be a mere 1/8 that at the center. Clearly, no matter where you travel on the planet, the gravity you feel is pretty much the same.
They also have ways to dodge the seasons and the "progressive" nature of the day/night cycle, meaning the darkness progresses across the globe. Their theory is so flawed it's painful.
So much scientific proof and STILL they think the earth is flat?

There is no gravity, its all cause the Earth and the universe is moving upwards at 1g, so we are pulled down at 9.8 ms-2.
I just spent around 30 minutes on that site, and I can most definitely say that it's one site that I will NEVER visit again. I thought that MaximilianMaryhofer was hard to argue with, but damn... :sick:

The earth is a disk moving up at an acceleration of 9.8 m/s2 which is causing 'gravity'? Then how do they explain the variation in this acceleration? It is slightly different everywhere on the planet... Does that mean the disk is moving up at different accelerations in different locations?...
They just seem to be making up excuses for every piece of evidence to a spherical earth as they come across them... Ask them something nobody asked before and they will come up with some new stupid excuse...

About nr 1) I guess you could debate relative to what? I believe they think everything (the entire universe) is moving upwards so you can't really say what speed it would be at... Even so, they do have the sense to mention that it is at least somewhat slower than the speed of light since relativity predicts a body can keep accelerating indefinitely without reaching the speed of light.
Also, number 3 is a bit weird... They say that if you step of the earth you fall like you would expect to, because you stay still relative to the earth. However, after so many million (billion?) years of moving upward at constant acceleration, the earth is presumably moving at a speed like 99,999999999999% the speed of light. I can assure you if you stepped of the earth moving that fast and you would suddenly stop and not move at all, you would for one see the earth blink out of existence and two you would die.
Even assuming you wouldn't die, why the hell does the 'dark energy' affect the stars, sun, earth, moon, everything, EXCEPT you?
Which also brings me to another point: Gravity presumably acts on the earth (tides are due to gravitational effects by the moon for example, their words) but the earth itself has no gravity (otherwise it would collaps on itself)... People ask "why does the sun exert gravity but the earth does not?", and they answer "because the earth is not the sun"... Like gravity is a property of the sun... It's a property of matter and space-time, and if the sun has it, so does the earth. If you don't believe that then you have some serious work to do explaining it lol...

After having debated Young-Earth-Creationists for a few years, I can vouch that the tactics, intellectual dishonesty and stubborn inability to accept reality that you are encountering with them are identical to those you find amongst YEC's of every type. I don't actually think the FE's really believe, but no matter how whacked they pretend to be, you'll be able to find people just as insane in the YEC crowd.
No offence to any YEC's reading, of course: we're talking extremes here.
