Read carefully, should I wait in line?
Please, understand that I am going to buy Rock Band. There is no stopping this. I will not tell you anything about myself, if I play any instruments, and I do not give a **** about your feelings on the game or its merits. My question is simply this:
Should I wait in line for it? More precisely, is it going to be difficult to pick up the day it comes out?
Possible points of discussion include, but are not limited to: mass production of products, copies per store, and (my favorite) high price keeping out casual buyers.
Please excuse the terse style of this post, I just want to discuss my concerns and not anyone's feelings on the game itself.
Thank you in advance

Re: Read carefully, should I wait in line?
Why wait in line? Just rob the store a few hours before it opens.

Why is it unusually heavy??!?!?!

That's just silly. If I get it at Best Buy, they will have closed at 10 PM. That only gives me a two hours window to case the joint, and employees will probably still be there. It would be easier to rob a bank for the cash than to pull off that job.
Don't even get me started on Wal-Mart, they don't even close.

Ah, does everyone see what Mark was trying to do there. He was trying to make fun of my unintentionally ambiguous post. However(!), he forgot a comma. So, Mark, my reply to you is; no, I do not know why it is unusually heavy. Do you?
(Please note that I use colons and semicolons (can we please avoid bodily colon jokes?) wherever the hell I feel like it)

Re: Read carefully, should I wait in line?
I don't see Rock Band as having the potential of being a good game. First thought is the space a band takes up. The second is the accuracy of the voice recognition at that speed. Third, Guitar Hero was overdone. Making a full band out of it won't help.
Now... Unreal Tournament 2004... THAT was a good game.

Wow, (notice the comma) attacking my grammer eh? I tell you what, (notice the comma, again) you need to find a girlfriend and forget about playing video games, committing bank robberies etc.

I was simply stating that you were making fun of my unintentionally ambiguous post by making another unintentionally ambiguous post.

Hmmm, interesting. My first thought is read the ****ing subject of this post.

Re: Read carefully, should I wait in line?
In my opinion, no video game is worth standing in line for several hours, but I don't see that you'll have to deal with a Halo 3 size crowd when purchasing rock band. It's up to you, though. You can always go to the store and turn around if the lines too long ;)
Let us know how the game turns out...

Ah, what the hell...
1. I'm getting it mainly for the drums. I imagine I will be playing it by myself mostly, which is how I play Guitar Hero.
2. I haven't played them, but Sing Star (? I think that is the name) has been around for some time now. I believe it is relatively popular. If this is true, it must work fairly well(right?).
3. I have fun playing songs on Guitar Hero that I've played twenty times. I know what you are saying, but if you aren't looking for huge technical leaps from each new GH or GH style game, then they are sort of just expansion sets. I will say I enjoyed the first GH much more then any of the others. I had to start on easy and work my way up. But now, I enjoy it in a different way. Now I like playing the songs, and not just trying to "beat" the game. So, I'm not worried about it being overdone.

Damnit, I think timeshifter was being ironic...

Re: Read carefully, should I wait in line?
I'd say wait for the game. If you're going to get the game, why wait in line than when you can get it afterwards without waiting in line?
The problem occurs when you actually wait and then the game could potentially be sold out (e.g. like the Wii). In that case, I'll say pre-order it off the internet, and save the hassle of waiting around, but you still get the benefit of getting the game guaranteed (unless the producers don't ship that many game CDs, but then that's beyond your control, whether you lined up in the queue or not.)
Also, for a heads up - since you are posting in CC, you will get stupid comments ( at cryptcblade's post about the colon). Just ignore it, and avoid swearing at others or otherwise you may appear to have the mental age of a 3 year old.

Re: Read carefully, should I wait in line?
I've played guitar for 11 years. REAL guitar, mind you. My buddy who doesn't play guitar had been playing GH for several months. I picked up the controller, played a level on easy just to get the feel for it, then whooped him repeatedly on any level he chose. GH is NO replacement for guitar. If you feel the need to make music, get a real guitar. Learn a couple of popular songs and you'll be a crowd pleaser in no time.
Sweet Home Alabama, Thunderstruck, Stairway to Heaven are very noteworthy songs that a lot of people enjoy. I can turn any place into a dance hall with Sweet Home Alabama. Done it a few times, actually.

You obviously did two things:
1. Didn't read the first post
2. Ignored the first post.
Either way, that's just being stupid and rude considering that the guy has a clear case of tourettes and you're just provoking it.
Basically, in short: Shut up.

Re: Read carefully, should I wait in line?
Instruments are better than games 110% of the time. Plus, it takes actual skill to play an instrument. GH gives five buttons. My guitar has 6 strings and 24 frets. The guitar I'll be getting soon has 7 strings, 24 frets. GH != Guitar.

Damn, I would take your advice, but I too have played guitar for eleven years. Silly me, I just enjoy playing a game.
1. Thanks for saying REAL guitar, I thought you meant you have been playing GH for eleven years. I didn't think that was possible.
2. Whooped your friend, huh? Good for you.
3. I don't recall ever comparing playing GH to playing guitar. Perhaps you could show me where I did.
4. I don't consider playing GH making music. I consider it playing a video game.
5. I own several guitars (1 steel string, 2 nylon, 2 electric, 1 bass)
6. I never said I wanted to be a crowd pleaser.
Sorry, I think you may have confused me for someone else.

I know, GH = Guitar Hero. Whoever told you that GH = Guitar is an idiot.

I don't confuse people for others. I just enjoy confusing people.

Re: Read carefully, should I wait in line?
Why not just pre-order the game online, so when it comes out you will have it delivered right to your door. Also I believe some online retailers will guarantee delivery on the release date. :thumb:
-
Re: Read carefully, should I wait in line?
Considering it's a game, It's not supposed to be the real thing.
That's like saying "Don't play Grand Theft Auto, it's not realistic enough. The controller is no replacement for the UZI"
So what? We play it because we get some form of entertainment out of it, one way or the other. Just because you can play your guitar (like you're the first one  ), doesn't mean you can strut around and act like your colon don't stink.

That makes 1 one other person who agrees with me (I mean pre-ordering)
-
Re: Read carefully, should I wait in line?
If I were desperate to have a game on its' release date, I'd certainly pre-order it. Given that I don't have any consoles and the one game on my PC I will be getting an expansion for soon is available online, I haven't had to bother. Pity I don't play more games...

Re: Read carefully, should I wait in line?
I just like playing it. For the most part, it is mindless. And, for me, the parts that aren't mindless aren't rewarding enough to bother learning. I can play it for five minutes or an hour. It's just simple fun, like playing a three chord punk song, or Thunderstru....oh, ****, sorry man.

Why don't you guys play lemmings anymore?
P.S. Did you know that the company that designed (and possibly made lemmings if I remember correctly) are now a part of Rockstar Games?

Do I smell a drummer? Great! If this is true, have you seen the drum kit for the game? Four pads and a kick, no "cymbals" or "high hat." And the pads aren't set up like a real kit at all, they are more or less just in a row. Simple, yes, but while a lot of drumming (simple drumming that is) is hitting a large target at the correct time (not trying to offend any drummers), do you think one could could learn anything about drums while playing this game? I think so, but I know nothing about drums.
It just seems to me like this might be a reasonable, cheap, and fun low level(emphasis on low) introduction to drumming. Your thoughts?

Who said I played rhythm? AC/DC's work is, in general, pretty boring. Some of their lead stuff is cool, which is why I pointed that song out. The intro is usually a crowd pleaser. The rest of the song sucks.

I was takin' a jab at AC/DC.

Re: Read carefully, should I wait in line?
Somebody needs a life :(
You are obviously not very rich and therefore would not have enough money to buy a rock band anyway, how you would expect to do that is beyond me, please explain.

Re: Read carefully, should I wait in line?
Yea, me... because I just spent the last 2 minutes reading this thread... and I'm not sure what purpose came of it to anyone involved.
Don't wait in line, and Guitar Hero is a stupid game. You might as well play Combat on the Atari 2600 in two player mode - against yourself. That would be more fun.

Wow, thanks. I didn't realize it was a stupid game. Thanks for saving me from that. I almost enjoyed myself there.

Re: Read carefully, should I wait in line?
What happened this thread? It was two pages long and was approaching sixty posts...then that second page magically disappeared.

Did it? I wasn't paying attention...
