:( Such a good story wasted. :(
I cant belive their making a movie out of it... :( ......
Anyone seen the Quake 4 trailer? Any Quake fans here?
I've seen the Quake 4 trailer, but I've never really playing the Quake games, but it didn't look overly impressive.
If DooM 3 is anything to go by, this movie will suck so much butt its not even funny.
Doom 3 did not suck!
To comment on Doom the movie, it appears that the script holds surprisingly true to the game. When the script first came out, this wasn't the case, people bitched, and it was re-written. Usually games that are made into movies don't turn out well. Part of the problem of making games into movies is that there is usually little content to go from to create an entire movie and thus script writers have to "fill in the gaps". Now, I will admit, the script does not put as much emphasis on the origin of the creatures, but I think that was done purposefully. The movie has to appeal to a wider audience then the average gamer; therefore, that is why I believe the creature’s original origin, Hell was "played down" in the movie, and a more biological origin was put in place. Still, I think it will be a good movie. Though an interview with one of the actors, they said that the movie is dark, just like the game, and gamers will appreciate how much effort was put into trying to keep the movie, true to the game.
As for Quake 4, I am surprised that you are not impressed with it. But as you said, you never really played any of the Quake games, so maybe that is why. There are some things about the game that you might appreciate. For example, the game engine supports volumetric fire, something that hasn’t been done before.
I am just affraid that Q4 will loose the gaming quality and feel that Q3 had (speed and all that). I simply love Q3. And I think that counter stirke is for old people because they have no reflexes :D
I don't think Q4 will loose gamming quality. It's based off a heavily modified doom 3 engine, and Raven Soft is writing it. They write kick ass games, and have the experiance of working with ID software technology.
 Originally the movie was going to be based off the Doom 3 storyline, but they were pressured by Religious groups to change it (according to what I've read on the IMDB forums and a few articles else where).Quote:

Yes it did. I suppose if its the only game someone ever played in their life they might think its good. But in comparison to virtually any moder FPS it is pretty lame.Quote:

I get bored with it after half an hour and stick Halo on instead. The graphics are excellent though but that doesn't make up for lack of gameplay or player involvement.
The character has no charisma at all, I really don't care if he gets his head biten off by a zombie. Compare it to Halo for example. Halo had a fantastic plot, amazing cut scenes and you really feel like you are in the story line. Its 100 times better than Doom3. The enemies are much smarter too. Its a much richer game and i can't believe ID even bothered to release D3 when the competition is SOOOOO much better.
It think it depends on what you were looking to get out of the game?
Some monsters take over a facility, and you have to survive it.... I mean I don't see how the storyline can be more 'involving' really, unless you want the player to have some deep and meaningfuls with the monsters or something. :\
The monsters were definiately not bad?
From what I hear about Halo, it wasn't that impressive a game... from what I've seen I found it alittle tedious on my brothers Xbox, but I guess that just comes with console games.
But I think all up the game was purely about the engine for id, I'm guessing thats where they make most of their money?
That looks exactly like Aliens 4 to me <shrug>
I always got the impression - even from the betas onwards - that Doom3 was simpmly a technology showcase. It wasn't a game per se, just an excuse to show off realtime shadows and the new physics engines etc.Quote:

Doom 3 has a different environment and different kind of gameplay.
Doom 3 has a scare factor, which is it's primary goal.
Doom 3 has a story line. Maybe you just don't understand it.
Doom 3 characters are zombies, they don't have to be smart. They are zombies for christ sake!
Doom 3 is a technology platform and demonstrator.
In case you didn't know, ID Software is in the business of developing cutting edge 3D engine technology, not high level gameplay. It's what they do.
Any other questions????

I think if they wanted a graphics showcase they could have done a lot better in terms of the different kinds of game environment, all the rooms are the same, the lighting is not particularly impressive...
I think it is comparable with Halo, apart from the non existant plot. DooM3 simply does not have a story. "You're in a lab, shoot and endless stream of repetitive monsters with not quite enough ammo - the end."
Halo's story was very complex, each level had a decent objective, unlike "find yet another boring bloody keycard and shoot some more baddies". They should have named it YawnFest.
AND the interface was better in Halo. What the hell is all that having to trawl through menus every time you pick up a new gun so you can bind it to a button. Very lame, and the menus take far too long to transition from one to another. I honestly find DooM 1 and 2 more entertaining. Thank god the special edition came with those too or it would have been a complete waste of money.
I was expecting a lot because the the reviews I had read all said it was the best FPS ever. Sorry but no. I can think of 10 that are superior.
Raaaaaaarrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhh
*This concludes today's rant :D*
I found half life 2 beat it down too easily. HL2 had impressive graphics, fantastic physics, good storyline and fun gameplay. Doom 3 had fantastic graphics and lighting....and that all
Aren't Doom 1 and 2 the same thing? Collect the keycard and shoot the bad guys?Quote:

That's why Doom 1&2 are so much better, they were significant and they still have appeal to this day. Doom3 will fade away among the Unreal Tournaments, Halos, and all the other games that were just a distant clone of Doom 1. I'd much rather spend 3 hours playing Doom 1 than this Doom 3. :) Maybe its nostalgia :D
2 problems with that movie.
Storyline is not the Doom storyline
And The Rock. Ok he was the man in WWE, but geez man, hang up your movie career and go back and wrestle.
What do you have against The Rock? He is my hero, and when I grow up I want to be just like him! He is the bestest best acotr in the whole world!
When it comes to The Crock and ladies, and The Crock hits rock bottom, he has no choice but to lay the smackdown on himself.
Yeah, hes best in a non-speaking role, just like Vin Deisel (sp?). We can only hope Karl Urban will save us. :(
I've heard of Vin Petrol but who the hell is Karl (sub)Urban?
Isn't he the father of inner city socialism?

I'm not sure if Full Spectrum Warrior counts as a FPS but its magnificent strategy wise.
If you havent seen it then go grab a copy.
Hmmm, tough call. I suppose technically it would be because it's from a first-person view and you shoot stuff. But it could also be classed as a military strategy game?
Personally I would put it in the military strategy game, FPS are just about fragging :D
Yeah. They should do a sequel I reckon, o maybe a slightly futuristic version. Imagine Halo crossed with FSW!!!
That would PWN
Nah, never really liked Halo. Though HL-2 was better.
You played Deus Ex?

Just check out the review on this game, and for £5 it is definitely worth it!
Never played it. You reckon it'll run well on a Celeron 1.5ghz with 32meg graphics?
I'll probably grab a copy at lunch if I can find it in the bargain bin :)
Should do as it's a relatively old game. Definitely recommend it. :thumb:
You remember G-Police?
That was something else. If anyone can get it to run on a modern machine let me know. I tried a while ago and my copy seems to demand a Voodoo2 graphics card for some reason, actually the game came free with the card so it must have been a modified version of the game. One of the first games I played that had transparent objects and volume shaders, stunning.
I never played the original but I did play G-Police:Weapons of Justice. Cool game, especially considering it was on the PS1
I remember in Deus Ex I had to get past an automated weapons Mech so I thought if I shoot this garbage bin to distract it I could sneak past it. What I didn't count on was that the AI spent two seconds looking at it, then calculated the trajectory and turned to look straight at me! To say I was a little surprised (and dead by that point) was an understatement. :D
What I especially liked about it was that you could augment your character with nano-implants to increase your skills in various weapons, hacking, swimming, hand-to-hand, infra-red vision, speed, strength etc etc. It made every game I played different because some methods of completing a task require a certain level in a skill base.
