hey wossy, along with what you're doing with that area thing, you could perhaps have 3 levels of it? (best quality, no perspective, no image), where you just paint a color instead of the texture, when creating your texture array you could calculate a corresponding color, being the average of all the colors, so for a texture that will only have a small display anyway, you could save time not drawing an image(normally these objects will be far away looking through rooms etc so it would be unnoticeable in gameplay
