Alright, get started on this TOW_World thing, which should do all of the tieing together... also got rid of that god awful TexCache folder... everything is now nice and organized into "maps", "object_templates", "textures", "fonts" and "models" =).

Well, Psy, I did a little playing around, and got a script working for the installer =). Unfortunately, your code doesnt like my VB webserver, which I was using to get at the files, so it wouldnt download them =). Otherwise, it worked like a charm =).

The installer wudnt work unless your server can take the Range parameter in the header that states the starting bytes for the server to send to the client ;) Apache and ISS allow this.
Strange... I didnt see that in the header dump (could have figured it out otherwise =).
I think Ill tak another look,
And please change it so that it doesnt delete the script =).

What calls are you using to do the download in the installer, Psy?

initialy when it requests a file i dont think it includes it though it does afterwards.
if your downloading from a local host then make sure the host in the script is okay.
can i see the script ? when i did a local host one for me it worked.

Dont worry about it =). My server simply gets a request, parses out the file to serve up, and then serves it all up in one big chunk.

Well, things are coming along well... I can now create a game object in the world in about 3 lines of code. This will be reduced as soon as I implement creation scripts. Pretty simple:
Essentially a console script. This will probably be the way we set up the stuff on a map (just embed this file into the map file), and Ill set it to run at a higher debug level (<object>.set_pos() isnt availible in normal play, duh =). Pretty cool stuff coming along =).Code:createunit <type> <name>

I'm sorry to say that I've been not doing much work.. the fools at the local video store let me rent morrowind (evil grin) but I don't have it anymore, and I just got VS.NET, so I'm doing the random generator again. I might be able to get some pics in during the week.

one thing i think should get finished off as soon as possible is the web site or at least the information bits on it and a proper page for downloading demos and things. and the replace it with the old yellow and black one. then we have like a decent proper hey this is official website.
Wont get VS.NET till TOW is done too =).
Actually, when TOW is finished, Im moving to Linux, I think =). This is the only thing keeping in Windows =).

And Psy, I've been thinking, and I doubt that we'll actually need a GOOD website until ToW release 1. Until then, How would a barebones info page and an ASP forum do? I can have those up anytime, as I'll be using Snitz ASP forum (It's not the best, but I've modded it before to add new features, such as avatars). I've just got too much to do at the moment to work on the website, I'm afraid.
Actually, a cool idea I have is to change the GUI for each season... specify the season in the map file, and create the GUI around it =).

I've got a cool idea for a gui: something like fine, dark rock, that can lock in to other pieces, scroll, and have the area changed, to make a nice custom GUI. And it should have a console that can be typed in without focus so you can still play the game a bit while typing something in the console.
I can draw up a quick sketch of what I mean.

At the moment, the console doesnt require focus... it takes input when it is expanded to either 4 or 20 lines. When closed ot at one line, it doesnt take input =).

Well I drew it - not pleased at all how it came out, so I'm going to do it again tomorrow. But the console will be built in with the rest of the GUI, or detachable, like everything else.

heh, lots of posts. sas, cud u mail me the pages for the site and ill see what i can sort out. i think we shud have something working there so we can show people what is happening.
even if there is no forums but just a page with art, one with screenies and team info/game info. i cud probably sort some of em out.
The GUI is looking better. that title bar texture is a bit odd but the text and background colour is a hell of a lot better!!
What do you mean, give you the pages? I can't give you the ASP code for security purposes (it connects to the database), and there's no other code...
I mean, if I sit down and spend one good day on it, I can get pretty far, but I haven't had that day yet. Maybe over Thanksgiving weekend; I'll see what I can do.

I'd like to add that your code (and many others using DirectX) never work when I have 2 monitors enabled.
I typed in "exit" and it threw a fatal exception.. everytime I ran it the FPS decreased... (ex. 80, 70, 50, 20, 10...) but otherwise pretty solid. SetPos didn't seem to work either, but maybe I was looking at the wrong tree.
