ah, thanks
Well. 62 and still actively doing this stuff, not to be sniffed at ;)
PHP is a good place to start. Its a bunch of CGI programs bunned together to make an easy to learn programming language and once you know one programming language all the others a are relitivly easy to learn.Quote:

Where is a good place to start learning about PERL/C++ for CGI?
The good thing about PHP is that it's construct is similar to Javascript and C - Operators are similar too.
Oh and by the way I'm 19 - been programming for two years. I knowJavascript, PHP, VB, VB Script learningC/ C++.
I'm yet to make anything big yet though. I don't have the patience and if I don't put my mind to it I end up with spaghetti llike cod :D.

I Strongly Recommend You Dont Place Cod In Your Project After A While It Will Begin To Smell!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D
Pooooooo!!!!!
my best language is visual basic. i earn money by making useful software and selling them to teachers and students in my school. the latest is WDS. Check it out on my school's website.

I'm not terribly inclined to specify my age, but it is somewhere between 13 and 16.
I began writing programs (in vb) when I was in second grade (they were mindnumbingly simple), and wrote a program for my third grade teacher that generated homework assignments for math (no, I did not include anything that allowed me to cheat).
Right now I am transitioning to vb.net, and in between writing a stock market simulation (for a cool teacher I had that now teaches math) and a gradebook program.
Hello,
I am a programmer too...17 now. I was slightly introduced to programming through a class at my old school, they just really taught "Hello World" which is probably 99% of all of ours first program. I've been programming for two years.
The steps to gain my experience were from VB to ASP to PHP to some C++/Java to VB.NET and finally C#.NET(i'm certified!) and obviously html is somewhere in there.
To newbies or anyone I personally would recommend learning in that order, it's very gradual and helps a lot!
Earning money...the first amount of money that I earned from programming came from working on a yahoo chat room bot... amazingly it was good money $500 for like 5 hours of work.. I am currently employed at a database company that designs applications for top companies such as Warner Brothers and Sony and I work at another company, an ISP that provides dedicated/colocated services in Los Angeles.

I am 21 now. And I have been programming in 6 years, mainly in VB, Java, and have been introdused to ASM, C++ and toched PHP. So I guess I have much to learn still. My Algorithm exam is up in a week...:D
I'm 16, and i'm a programmer, so i guess i fit ;)
most of my programming was done at college, but since the revision started getting heavy i've been doing some stuff at home.
*is v. new to this forum, ie first post-wise*
im 13 i started off in visual basic and ive been programing for about 2 years
I've been programming since I was 14 I think? But I didn't really get into it until I was 15-16. :)
Before that , I was a l33t HTML Hacker! :yeah baby:
Any girls underage of around 15 years old from singapore?
I started javascript, HTML and other web languages around 14yrs old - then moved onto networking . Im 19 and just went back to school recently.
Start by learning C++ THOROUGHLY! Then every other language will seem like childsplay.
I am 14,
Started 2 months ago,
I now know HTML (Not really programming but its a start)
I know some MySQL (Again not reaaly programming)
And i am currently working for a driving instructers company! YAY.
It pays CRAP
All jobs when you are young pay crap. :) :)
I'm 17 and I have been programming in VB for about 9 months. No money though... :(
Im 20 from the USA. The languages i have worked with are VB6.0, C++, Java, ASP, Java Script, HTML(doesnt count), DHTML, and XML.
Dont make much money off of OOP yet as i am still in school but otherwise i design and have designed a lot of web Inventory systems for companys which pays off pretty good ;-)
??? I got $500 for the first real app that I wrote. it took me about 3 hours to write the app tho. (minus the code that I already had written - basicly all i did was connect together all my snippits and design the gui (VB6)) The reason they paid so much (or maybe they didnt pay so much - i dont know what i should have charged but i was 12 and didnt really care) was because it saved them so much manual log parsing (they were paying 3 ppl like $7-9 an hour @ 8 hours a day) my program did their workload in a few minutes. * stops and thinks i may have gotten some people fired??? *Quote:

Well in a word Yes! but having had to support house wife an 2 children while at university I accumulated horrendous debts and will probably just about clear them by the time I retire!
ps I'm 31 by the way!
Isn't that just the way of life? You think you're going to have all this extra cash laying around.. As a teenage, you never realize till you get older that most of the world's population lives in debt their entire working lives.
Want a good education? ok, fork over $30,000 -$100,000.
Want a house? ok, fork over $300,000. And wait also, you have to pay property tax on that house now too.. give them another $2 - $6,000 a year for property taxes.
Want a new to slightly used car every five years? Ok, fork over $18,000 every 5 years then. 8 cars in your working life * 18,000 = $144,000.
Want to insure those cars in case some moron drives into them and rips off your front fender? You need to, otherwise you'll owe more on your car loan than the car is actually worth! That will be about $1200 a year for both, if you're a good driver btw!
Want health insurance so you don't get sick, get stuck with a $50,000 hospital bill and end up losing your house? ok, fork over $1500 a year, wait... you have a wife and 2 children, make that $3000 a year..
Want to insure your house also in case your child throw's a party and one of his friend's burns it down, or a nail falls out and your garage goes crashing? Ok, fork over another $1200 a year.
Ok, did you run over that nail in your garage? Ok, fork over $100 for a new tire.
Want to feed your family a decent meal everyday? Ok, that will be a good $600-$1200 a month, or , $7200 to $14,400 a year.
How bout clothes? stereos? something to sit on *2 *how many rooms in your house? beds? blankets.. pets... desks.. .etc..etc..
Its simply amazing how the more money you make, the deeper in debt you can become.
Simply mind-boggling. Btw, im 29, and the proud owner of $260,000 of debt!
Thanks for cheering me up....
*Jumps off bridge
:D :D :D :D
Ive been programming since at least third grade. I wrote a program that tested for primality (in third grade), and a program that automatically generated multiplication tests for my teacher (again, third grade) and an answer key, and printed them out.
I'm 14 now, and am currently working on a kind of simulated evolution thing.
I'm 16. I know VB/VB.net, C#, C/C++, Java/VB script, asp, php, html.
Sometimes I get pay check, but it rarely happens.
im 14
i got started when i was 12 with VBA at school when some kid said "hey press alt+f11 its cool" and then i bought a book and blah blah blah
anyway now i program VB6, VB.NET, C++, PHP, and script HTML
fun times.
ok I started QBasic at 8, anyone beats me?:D
I'm 18?
Hi im 19, i started programming 4 years ago in VBA. Then I started VB on my own, just using some samples and MSDN. Now I've learned at school lots of languages: JAVA, C++, ASP, VB.NET, VB, RPG
normally i do not get payd for my programs, because i make them for my own use and for my friends. I made a webpage (ASP, online shop) for school that I've sold to a companny, that was the only time i've got payd vor my programming.
I've made some programs that are used in some companies, but one of my best friends is the administrator there, so i didn't charge him anything. He programmed some software for me to for free
That is something I hate about shcool here in Greece... The only programming class they ever gave me was optional in grade 12! It is their own language, a combination between QBasic and Pascal... :(
Hey Guys,
Im 17 and making a program for my school and other surrounding districts. I know the following languages:

(3)Q-Basic
(4)HTML(And is also crap)
i'm ten
Im 15 and programme for the fun of it.

Hi im 12 and started proggraming with visual basic 6 and then moved on to the .net languages(vb.net and currently learning c++). I also know how the create batch files, qbasic files and simple webpages.
p.s. sorry about my english
Good grief, I though we'd seen the back onf this 5 year old thread! :)
I'm really jealous of all these people that got into programming early. When I was 14 it never occurred to me that the average joe could write their own software, it was never advertised anywhere. The only reason I got into it at all was because at my first job, they had a copy of VB4 and I just opened it to see what it was. Anyway an 2 hours later I'd finished a calculator program. I was hooked from then on.
Now I've got VB4, VB6, Qbasic, PocketC (sweet!), C++ (a bit) and C# (a lot :)) under my belt. HTML is for wimps.
Wossname, mild mannered Government operative by day, freelance coder by lunchtime. :(

LOL.... Just think if it had been a copy of Penthouse... you may be studding it right now. :)
Just imagine if it was a copy of my little pony adventures he could be another way inclined!!!
Hehehe so most people posting at the begining of this post are now in ther early-mid twenties...I'd like to see what they are doing now, but Im guessing a lot of them are not active members anymore....
Haha. I was 12 when this post was started.. Wow.. But I am now 15, and getting into learning VB soo, I will report back here in a year or so :bigyello:
What makes you think I'm not?Quote:
