Damn, I finally scumbed to the temtation and decided to download the pdf but waddayaknow... it's charged. While I might fancy a good larf I don't think I'm inclined to pay for it in this instance. I'm off to FailBlog instead. Come to think of it, I'll just keep reading the thread as it amounts to much the same thing.
Moti,
I think you meant to use the word "prey".

thanks abhijit
yo dexter it is a free download, in the oron link ya gotta scroll down then you see the free download/slow download link
Great, page 10, now I'm unsubscribing :duck:
Another 133 posts to go before it's my page 10. 132 now ...
Yeah, that ORON site is really annoying. I thought it was charged, too, at first, but eventually I realized that their model is to give you a free download, but hide that fact and annoy you extensively if you try to use it, all while pushing the paid service. The paid service just removes all the annoyances. It would be a reasonable model if there were things that you would be downloading frequently, but it makes no real sense if the downloads are fairly small and infrequent.
Dropbox and Box.net are the best file sharing sites in my opinion.
abhijit that box.net site seems to have some sweet features can you hook me up with tutorials
and tell me what that site offers ?
that was cool BUT i'd rather get the answer from abhijit
a programmer is supposed to be lazy
abhijit post 371 m'k
I would rather give the same answer that weirddemon did. :)
...which should be all the Moti-vation you need.Quote:
After all, his answers are clearly Moti-endorsed
OK then, downloading attempt 2. You know what I really need? Some sort of AI to handle this sort of thing for me.
OK, possibly I'm being dumb (probably actually) but I still can't download it for free. There's a Regular Download option but if I press that I get a message saying I've downloaded my maximum limit of 500Mb already. Don't know how because I've never even heard of Oron before. It tells me I've got to become a premium member and, if I click on the link for that, it gives me a list of paid options. Modi, you didn't create that site yourself using YuppyMapper did you?
Anyway, Abhijit, my email's on the way. And let me make this absolutely clear to everyone: I only want to recieve an email from abhijit. Clear? Good.
Oh alright, any of you can email me... because your cute.
I'm just going to leave this right here...

Here is the PDF.
I'm only sharing this because I've been suffering from deep depression for quite some time. For the first time in my life, my depression has been cured, and it's all thanks to you, moti_barski.
You are a true legend. The only thing missing from that book is how to cure cancer, but it doesn't even need to be put in, because the tears of laughter I and anyone who reads this will shed could be used to cure cancer. :thumb:
i don't have a beef with cancer
Maybe that's yottamarker talking.
You call that sentence coherent?
(It's an AAI, not an FAI.)
Well keep in mind that Battle Programming states that 25% of the book was written by Yottamarker. I would love to hear what parts exactly :)
i should have copied more than just the last word of post 388 into the input textbox
textbox
Someone could make this into a book...
Yes, but who in the world could copy/paste this into a book?
The VBForums archive utility could be slightly modified.
Page 11! :D
Hunh, we actually got back on track a bit on page 10 rather than going right off the rails.
This should become a small chat.

Still on page 7 for me. I have the option set to 60 posts a page.
Yeah that's what I saw but where you get the "wait for x seconds" message I get "you've already downloaded your allowance". Ho Hum.Quote:

FD, That was what i saw until i realised that you had to register !
You can only download a certain amount of data without registering and Moti's book takes you over the limit !
Have you got a copy of the book yet ? if not you really should !!
Gosh, I wish I knew that earlier! I would have got a lot of red ink from the amount of mosquitoes my bro squishes every day!Quote:
ink can be made from crushed bugs.
I thought I had seen it all. But you astound me!Quote:

How is 'near' opposite of 'close' :D
Well that ain't happnin. Abi has emailed me a copy though so I'll probably have a read tonight.Quote:

Something I don't understand: If this book is about teaching people to program why are all the quotes about completely unrelated topics. I'm half expecting it to include a recipe for Quails Eggs (Just to pre-empt Shaggy's inevitable punnage: I quail at the the thought - meh, he'll probably come up with something better). Is YummyMoomin a keen chef?
The early topics are all about programming, but later on you get a whole array of non-programming related topicsQuote:

Such gems as - (taken straight from the contents)
ONE ON ONE FIGHTING
NAVIGATION FOR QUERIERS
SOLAR NAVIGATION
japan addresses
HOW TO WRITE A RESUME
How To Do Laundry
PLANTING
FOOD BY SEASONE
GROW POTATOS
HUNTING small animals
MUSHRUMS
I would post more but I dont want to spoil it for you - he he :0)
Ah, now I understand. My assistant cooked dinner for me and my SO last night. The potatos were OK and the mushrums were excellent, but the small animals tended to scoot off the plate as soon as you came near them with a fork. I guess the cooking instructions in BP are minimal. BB, bzzzz from Flya.
I skimmed through the book, without reading most parts in any detail. The gems are quite frequent, though the line "when close appear near" was one of my favorites. At times it was very hard to figure out whether the subject was about programming, program usage, or something entirely different. For instance, the section about spies, if taken alone, could be refering to the real world, as could the sections before it, yet the whole section appears to be possibly strategy tips for one particular strategy game (whether on computers or not I don't know).
I also can't figure out why FD chose quail eggs. There happens to be two places I can get them near me, and they are prepared differently in the different places (hard boiled versus raw), but why quail eggs? That book is all over the place, so I certainly wouldn't be surprised to find a recipe in there. Furthermore, rather than making a pun about it, since Moti explicitly asks for further subject matter, why not provide a recipe? After all, it certainly would be within the scope of that book, and I wouldn't worry about egging him on.
Recipe ... in book fashion (I don't have it but I've been following what has been written so far.)
Get quail eggs
Break open
cook
eat
season for flavor
Not the recipe for the quail egg shooters at a local sushi place. In that case, you can pretty much remove the cook part.
However, I do like the fact that you put 'season for flavor' after 'eat'. That would be quite in the style.
